moab mud? I was going to do them gloss black, but after putting it on the back corner i'm not sure, bedliner might look good though.

moab mud? ....

Awesome area in Utah. Their ground has a little bit of red in it (from Iron) but not as much as ours does here. Beautiful place from the pics I've seen.

use krylon epoxy paint. a little expensive-but hard to chip, one coat (similar to stovetops and washing machines), and you don't have to prime (though i did). or if you want stealth go krylon ultra matte black. any cheap primer will do. sand with rough sand paper, then wipe with acetone.

That looks good dude. I've been thinking about painting my rear bumper and side trim black or black Herculine. Was it hard to get those corner pieces off?

on the 1st gen its pretty easy just 6 screws 3 in the wheel well 2 on the top by the bumper and 1 under neath, i dunno bout the 2nd gen though.

Well i'm done except for the rims, just debating if I want to leave the front bumper off like that. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x76/giwer14009/SDC10688.jpg

Looks professional:thumbsup-big:
I'd put the lower bumper back on. I'd be afraid something would fly up and go threw the radiator (stick or a stone).

No way man!

Just leave the lower bumper off! That just get's in the way anyways, your approach is so much better with it off. I've been bumper-less for 6 months but plan on a pre-runner bumper soon so if you've got a bumper on the way just leave it off. Looks fine.

well still need to put the front bumper back on, doing that today and finishing my rims, the black one on there now is the spare.

looks great, ditch the step rails and get some lift + bigger rubber and it will look even better :)

Logan01X
04-16-2009, 12:26 PM
The step rails i might use the herculiner on, not sure yet, the lift- well as i said eairler i'm ordering shackles wednesday and that will raise it 2 1/2 inches, as for the tires, they will have to wait, (luckily) my grandpa bought me new tires as a graduation present, he wouldn't buy tires bigger than that. but it was over $600 so i cant really argue or complain. the only way i'll get new ones soon is if i find them cheap on here or craigslist.

Anybody thought about/have herculined the whole step rails? I have thought about it... I think it would look pretty good.

has anyone ever painted the grill with krylon fusion (or something like that), then painted the bumpers with the herculiner? I'm interested in what that would look like.

I think my buddy did that with his truck. Let me find some pictures and I will ask him in the morning if he used those products. I know his wheels and lower bumper are bed lined with the spray can stuff but Im not positive on what he used for the grill.

Those are the ones I could find. If you want a current picture I can bug him and have him take a picture tomorrow. IIRC he did use krylon paint on the grill and then spray can bedliner on the bumper. I will get exact info tomorrow.

You really cant tell the difference at all. I think it looks good and its a great idea. Might have to do that with my X... Not to take any ideas or copy anyone...
