Sorry..... obviously not a trail in ANY way shape or form. This crap is why trails we DO legally have get shut down, by going off the legal trails... obviously you should click that link too.

Travel responsibly on designated roads and trails or in permitted areas.

i second that.

but i also agree leave it as you found it, hell if you can leave it better then you found it,

alpine spiritX~are you saying that you NEVER went somewhere that wasnt a "off road park" to get some cool pictures or get a little muddy.

actually there is a trail down there where lots of us go fishing :D

No I have never gone off trail to get a COOL pic there are a ton of places out there that are COOL but you may have to drive further or wheel harder to get them. in the last 10 years I have seen quite a few great trails shut down because one person went off the trail someone saw it and it continued then the everyone thought it was ok so the NFS shut down the WHOLE TRAIL due to miss use!!

Wow.. you guys do me a favor stay in your states and leave my CO trails as they are..... Open. There is enough pressure from Sierra Club extremists to shut down trails and forest to all motor vehicles... dont need you guys adding to their propaganda.

i dont think we need any fighting between eachother these pics are just where we fish

Nice pictures.

I agree with the tread lightly thing, I always pack out what I pack in, clean after myself, etc...

but come on, give the guy a break, took a picture of his truck on a dirt hill, not like he lit a forest on fire.

Cheers :)

Alpine, those trails you ride on, how did they come to be? At some point someone in a motorized vehicle disturbed the pristine landscape. It doesn't look like he was tearing anything up or really leaving any tracks. Please don't be a hypocrit, the term tread lightly is technically an oxymoron; you'd be doing less damage if you didn't wheel at all. Now, who says he was doing more damage than you on your trails? Who's to tell? Looks like he was being pretty respectful and taking some nice pics. Good looking X dinka07.

thanks man...to be honest i wont tear anything up that isn't a track...we have places that we have asked people if it was ok :D

I agree with the part about picking up your trash and leaving things better than you found it, but if you really want to "Tread Lightly", you should probably take up hiking or mountain biking...

Drake
04-08-2009, 06:33 AM
THIS WILL NOT TURN INTO A WAR OF WORDS!!!

As for the hiking/mountainbiking comment, Tread Lightly applies to ANY outdoor activity.

The "trails that came to be" were/are considered LEGAL by federal/state designation therefore the damage done to the trail by a vehicle is expected, evaluated and controlled.

Now in Dinka's defense, I made no Tread Lightly comments because here in Alabama there are accepted access roads under all of our bridges for fisherman and hikers. They allow this because it keeps vehicles from causing congestion on the highways and backroads. This was my assumption for where he was.

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong and I'll be the first to accept blame since I let it slide but again... we are accepted by Tread Lightly and advertised by Tread Lightly so WE MUST RESPECT TREAD LIGHTLY!

This personal attack on Kevin is going to stop right now. IMHO If it wasn't for him, you would be custom fabbing every single mod to your X instead of getting support from aftermarket companies. Let's call this a truce. Everybody has made their point from both sides although I have to give the edge to Kevin. You have to understand, when people like Sierra, etc. see these photos with green grass under our tires, we become cannon fodder for their assaults.

I will apologize for not addressing the situation at the start but I made the assumption that Texas has the access/service roads under their bridges.

I apologize drake..I didn't want it to be a war too and I'm sorry...I just wanted to state that this was not something i would get in trouble for...I didn't mess up anything i didn't even kick up dust just a couple pics and thats all...I love this group and we may not agree with everything that we have to say but we need to stick together cause we are what makes club Xterra...I apologize alpine...I'm sorry for jumping at you I didn't mean to make a big deal about it...Your wise and have been doing things much longer than I and I respect that...I say we put this behind us and move forward...cause life isn't about looking back but looking forward to new things to come...

Don't forget, it's NOT about what others done in the past. We as a club are apart of Treadlightly...please stay on designated trails and promote CX in a positive manner.

Moderators will post clear rules in regards to questionable posts and pics that goes against CX values and Treadlightly.

I fully agree with Alpine (Kevin). Going off trail will get local trails shut down. Also, don't forget that trespassing is a crime and fines can be given for damages left by your actions:

just so you know it wasn't trespassing we clean up after ourselves and the law enforcement knows we are down there they just come to check up on us now and then make sure nothing that shouldn't be happening is happening :D

No offense Drake, but all I see is green grass under the tires in your avatar pic. In the fore ground it looks like there is a designated driving space. Are you following all of the rules? I'm not here to fight, but see how easy it is to misconstrue something. I'm just trying to stand up for someone being bullied. How many times do we get posts of "pics of my X". Why was this one all of a sudden bashed? Really there was no need. I'm sure if it was some girl in a bikini on her X nobody would have said anything. Take it for what it's worth.

Drake

No offense taken and yes there is green grass under my tires in my avatar. That was taken at my friend's house on his private property (side yard). And that's what I would like all members to do. If you see a questionable pic, then by all means contact the original poster and ask that it be edited.

This isn't the first post that's been attacked like this so it is by no means anything personal. And like I said, where I live, there is understood access granted to the public for areas just like Dinka is on. That is why I never brought it up. Kevin posted the TL logo as a reminder and also out of concern. The same acceptance of what is allowed here or Texas may not apply where he is. In the time I've been on all of the xterra sites, I've never seen Kevin personally attack anyone unless he was confronted first. He was simply reminding us to be careful and mindful of what we post.

I know it seems silly but people you must understand, the anti-wheelers hate our guts and will stop at nothing to shut us out of everywhere. The words of environmentalists carry way more weight than those of an avid wheeler any day and at all levels.

Dinka, I apologize for the thread getting hijacked but this makes for a good example and discussion so I hope you don't mind.

I thought the same thing Drake did, access roads under the bridges so that is why I never said anything plus the pics didn't look "too questionable" for me to contact Dinka.

Glad we got this resolved and hope we won't have any further issues from now on.

Keep up the good job, Dinka.

Good pics Dinka and glad your thermal underwear held up. :)

I agree that just because there's green under the tires doesn't necessarily mean we're off-trail or breaking TL principles, it could just be a very lightly used trail and the grass has grown up, private property, etc.
Every area is different and needs to be evaluated as such though I agree that the anti's will use anything against us whether it is in context or not. We'll have no one to blame but ourselves for the ammo the dig up to use against us.

Not to be rude but there are no public lands in Iowa its all private property either owned or rented by clubs for ORV's as Iowa has a love for atvs but no where near the respect for the other. Anyway we encourage cuttin new trails its adds excitment to the day such as " sure you can climb that hill but can you climb that one over there no one has yet its a virgin lol".

Please do us all a favor if you are going to be a dumbf*ck cutting you own "virgin" trails and just not post it. Just because Iowa doesnt have trails doesnt mean you should give fuel to the fire for hippies trying to shut down my trails. Or even better, try to get people together to ask for a ohv park. They did it in Minnesota where I am from and now there are at least 2 trails there now.
