So wired up my lights yesterday and everything worked perfectly. i tidied up all of the wires and zip tied them out of the way and went to turn on my lights again and nothing happened..

after the lights had been working i hadn't popped the switch in yet and i was looking at one of the connections on the back of it. i flipped the connector over and put it back on, not realizing that the negative battery cable was connected.. i heard a pop and then the lights didn't work. On the one wire that i unplugged, which is a wire that runs from the switch to the battery, i found that i had blown the inline fuse, so i replaced that. the switch now lights up but hella's dont

Any ideas??

Here's the green wire that runs from the switch to the lights

Hmm, that sucks.

If you have a multi-meter, I'd just try to make sure you have continuity when you should at the different contacts of the switch (make sure it didn't get fried) then maybe double check the fuse you put in to make sure its the right rating.

I can't imagine how anything downstream of the switch could have been affected (ie relay or lights themselves), but you could always check the fuse on the red wire that feeds + for the relay.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I'd just trace the power and see where it ran out....start at the battery, and continue to the relay/fuse/switch/lights, etc.

I mean, it could even be a blown element in the bulbs, etc.

Well.. i have no idea what happened.. but this is what my parents told me after i posted this.

Last nite after i went out with my girlfried, my parents were in the kitchen, when the carport where my X was suddenly lit up like someone had pulled into the driveway. my dad when outside and found that my lights were on. LOL.

when i had left, i had apparently forgotten to turn off the switch.. and somehow they were working lol. my dad didn't realize how they could be on so he just unplugged the connectors from the back of the switch.. which caused somethin so spark and the inline fuse in the green wire to blow again.

i changed out the fuse again and my lights worked perfectly.

I completely bewildered as to what happened.. but my lights work, so woohoo!! haha

Glad all is good. You might want to run the green wire to a ignition switched source so you can't leave 'em on by accident and kill your batt.

On my Excursion, I have some hellas just like that, but I have a 3 way switch:
•Up is hellas come on with high-beam
•Center is always off
•Down is hellas come on whenever ignition is 'on'

I had to do a little extra wiring, but I like having them come on with my hi-beams too. It looks like thats a DPDT switch (can't tell for sure), but if it is, it would be really easy to do if you wanted to.

just my $.02 :)

the popping noise you heard, Shaun, was the sound of your alternator dying..... :D

could have just been a ground that wasnt making good contact. Once it moved around a little or something it completed the circuit and BAM! let there be light.

Yea i guess that could be a possibility, i moved around all of the wires tho and checked the grounds and everything and it didn't work.. but somehow after sitting in my carport for like 3 hours untouched, it magically worked haha

It could also be that the relay is overloading (too hot) and then once it cools down turns the lights back on.
*edit - I just saw your how-to thread, looks like you did use a relay.
