Calmini (www.purenissan.com) also sells kits, but I am personally not willing to deal with them any longer, due to extremely poor customer service.

There's no connection/interaction between the BL and SL, so the kits are either BL or SL.

For an '01, the links Anthony gives are great.

:D

All (ALL) the BL's are made by Performance Accessories (PA) regardless of where you buy them (Private labeled, etc...)...so you can shop price on a BL, they're all the same kit.

For the SL's...you have Spencer Low Racing, top drawer stuff, works great, no complaints....and Automotive Customizers (AC) or 4x4parts.com (Lots of aliases) :) who are also providing good stuff at good prices, and every one has been happy with both, so far.

The best deal right now for an '01 that is going to be off roaded is the (AC) Articulator Suspension kit...very nice out of the box performance.

AC also sells BL's, which SLR doesn't as far as I know...but, again, you can order any component from anyone.

As for pluses and minuses,

the SLR stuff tends to be better made, the AC stuff looks a bit rougher...but neither is known to break often anyway...

The SLR front susp has proven extra travel...the AC has claimed extra travel.

The SLR std t-bars and AC's are fine, but SLR's 300M bars are amazing...the best you can get.

The SLR Rear susp uses either AAL/Shackle or a new leaf pack...the AAL/Shackle travel is good, way better than Rancho for example (Another one that we don't recommend) the leaf pack's travel is very good.

The std AAL/Shackle rear for AC is good, on par with the AAL/shackle from SLR..but the Articulator kit has Revolver Shackles, which give even better travel than even the SLR new leaf pack...essentially the most rear droop you can instal w/o modifying the rest of the truck's drivetrain, etc.

I mixed and matched. (You can do that...but its sort of the opposite of the one stop shoppig you were looking for.)

I have an SLR front and sort of an AC rear......

Works GREAT!

:D

You can do a 2" or a 3" BL..the 2" takes about 3 hrs with freinds, the 3" kills an entire weekend for the same crew...as all the stuff that still reaches on the 2" BL, requires a bunch of work/new parts...to reach on the 3" BL.

The rule of thumb is that you get room for another 2 inches of tire diameter for every inch of BL...starting with ~ 29's.

So for 33's, a 2" BL works great...if you want 35's, the 3" BL is your freind.

To compare kits...look at :

what shocks? (You need longer shocks in rear at least...the front IFS can droop all the way even on stock shocks...but the handling is better with an upgrade)

What T-bars? (thicker if expecting extra weight, like new bumpers/armor/you're really fat, etc...)

AAL/Shackle or new leaf pack?

Diff drop kit needed? (If more than stock front droop can be attained)

Steering kits? (If you do a 3" lift...you need to strengthen the steering) -

L&P and SLR are the hot tickets right now for a complete steering kit, and they both seem bullet proof....and either kit can be used with either suspenion, a plus.

(SLR's site is above in Anthony's post)

http://www.lpperformance.com/

Remember to include the costs for the steering kit in SL budgeting.

Hope that helps!

Rememer that tires that large will put more stress on your drivetrain and steering system. So you may at least want to consider a steering upgrade as well.

My plan (a little more conservative) is to go with a 2" BL and 33in tires.

For the 3" BL...the extra costs will be unrelated to safety or the BL itself...mostly involving your dealing with the 3" gap now existing between your frame and the body.

The place where the gap is most noticeable...is at the front/rear bumpers.

Most people raise the bumpers to match the original lines....but others just leave the gap..no wrong answer.

The drivetrain is dropped 3" lower too of course, so your shifter is gettng really short where it sticks up through the tranny tunnel...the hole in the floor may need to be clearanced to let the stick row, especially the t-case shifter...and you will need to make the shift shafts longer (They include a steel rod to weld on), and soo forth.

If you plan on 35's...you need the 3" BL though, so, enjoy!

:D

Most of the cosmetic bumper raising WILL compromise your bumper protection though...unless you weld/bolt on some re-enforcements to compensate for a new mounting point potentially being attached to some place not designed to take an impact, etc...

To raise the front or the rear, you pretty much just drill new holes in the bumper 3" lower, and re-bolt it in...adding bolt plates or other re-enforcements.

They sell brackets that make it all work cosmetically for you, but will do nothing for you if you USE the bumper.

NO ONE sells a bracket that is strong enough to replace the original bumper mount...so you'd have to weld or have someone weld a reall bracket that would work, or even increase the strength of the bumper.

For the stock bumper...that's an easy objective, its not that strong to start with.

If you are planning on raising an after market bumper www.shrockworks.com (http://www.shrockworks.com) for example, and may winch or do recovery from your bumper...you NEED it to be rock solid (More than stock).

People will weld stuff for $25-75 if you don't call it fabrication. As soon as they are fabricating a new mounting system, three digit numbers appear.

:D

The cost of steel has gone up, so there may be some additional costs for the metal itself, depending upon where you live, etc.

The 3" BL kit specifies welding the shift extension on anyway (No one does though, they just clearance the consol/floor holes, etc...)...so if going that route, you're there anyway.

I get scrap steel for free through work sometimes, so I stock pile for projects as needed. :D

Hey - Thanks!

Boofer, getting larger and larger hats is expensive.

:D

Besides, its not like you pay up or anything....

Yeah, I have a few hundred lb of steel in my garage, my truck's getting too heavy for much more anyway...so I loaned my welder to a buddy...who I also gave a coupla hundred lb, etc.

So - Anthony, if you want some, let me know what you need. Right now, I mostly have thick tread plate, maybe 2' wide, from a demo'd building's vault cover (Can drive trucks over it), and "L" braces from a demo'd building's truss system, around 11 lb per brace/maybe a foot long or so?

I have fewer of several other items, I forget what exactly.

:D

Whatcha need?
