: Anyone other than Calmini or Shrock for 2nd Gen?
pharrg 03-23-2009, 10:19 PM Does anyone make front winch bumpers for the 2nd Generation (05 or newer) Xterras besides Calmini and Shrockworks? If so, post a link. I'm not happy with the rear Calmini I got, and Shrock has a long wait time and I'd like to get my front bumper before the goneMOAB event in late May.
I think if someone else did start making them, they sell them like mad!
------------
Update: Calmini did respond, and in fact built me an entirely new bumper with the issues resolved. Sounds like the jig they use to build them somehow got out of alignment when my original one was built, but they fixed the issue and built me a new one that looks great. There are a couple things I would tweak in the design itself now, but the original problems are gone on the replacement unit. Just wanted to thank Calmini for stepping up and resolving the issue. I know it wasn't cheap to build and ship a new one, so I'm impressed with thier customer service.
dezurtrat 03-23-2009, 10:43 PM Some people have had some custom made ones. I know I have seen a few made by other small shops but I'll have to search around but May is pushing it at this point I think.

Thinking selfishly here because I smell the possibility of buying a slightly used Calmini rear bumper in the near future........ why is it, exactly, that you are dissatisfied with it?
:)

Im sorry about my KMA comment....had too
pharrg 03-24-2009, 09:31 AM I was wondering why the negative comments about KMA? I searched other forums and found people discussing issues with them, but noticed all the ones I found were from a number of years ago, like around 2001, 2002 or so. I found more recent ones all seem to be positive. Also, I noticed the designs of the bumpers seem to have changed by the photos I saw and the new ones look much nicer. Here's the product page:

Has anyone had problems with them in the last couple years? If so, what? Keep in mind that this is also for my daily driver for light to moderate off road, not a full on rock crawler. Thanks.
Oh, and I will do a seperate thread about the rear Calmini bumper with full descriptions of all the problems and photos too.
sanfordfire 03-24-2009, 09:51 AM I got a rear and loved it Customer Service is excelent!
ANd LOVE my REAR MC...
i had a HUGE problem with kyle/kma this past summer....i put in an order for a custom prerunner winch mount bumper on may 14th and was PROMISED that it would be shipped and at my doorstep in time for ECXC in july....well, 2 months came and went and i had no responses to my countless emails asking where it was and why it was taking so long...
then, just after school started in SEPTEMBER, i got an email from him saying that he never got a deposit from me (although my credit card was charged and i had an invoice from him showing the 50% deposit)....when i asked him why he waited MONTHS and MONTHS to even inform me that there was a problem that was keeping him from starting the fabrication, he just denied everything and pretended to not have ever spoken to me....
went through my credit card company and got the money back after a few weeks.....
i contemplated KMA seriously, even though they had shit-poor quality work in the past, but most people that i had talked to that had bought from him recently said his craftsmanship improved...then, i thought about the piss poor customer service he provided to people in the past, but after speaking on the phone with him i felt confident enough to go for it.....well, big mistakes happen, and thankfully my card company was easy to deal with through the whole ordeal
ultimately its not my decision whether you go with KMA or not, but i can't stress enough how much bullshit that guy talks and how disappointed i was with the whole situation...had he not built the bumper but was apologetic and didn't deny taking my money i woulda been pissed but would have just had him finish the job and that would have been that....but no, since he added insult to injury by not building my bumper after he PROMISED and SWORE TO GOD that the bumper would be done by the deadlines, and then denied taking my money, all he gained was another unsatisfied customer that will speak ill of him for eternity
please, do not give KMA any support...please...
LA RANA 03-24-2009, 08:37 PM waiting time aside, I sincerly believe Shrockworks to provide the better product...design, fabrication, powder coating...all significantly superior to the competition

Drake 04-07-2009, 09:27 AM Glad Calmini stepped up and corrected that for you. Maybe Calmini is revamping the customer service to get back up to where it used to be.
Post some pics and show it off man!
That makes me VERY happy.
I hate to see ANYONE making stuff for the X to suck.
If Calmini brings back customer service, takes responsibility, and stops blaming the customer for their product deficiencies...it would DRAMATICALLY increase the number of options available for the X.
:D
Keyz18 04-07-2009, 10:42 AM ARB will be coming out with a bumper for the 2nd Gen X later this spring/early summer. I have been in talks with Jim Jackson (ARB US President) and Marc Bowers (Tech Manager) and both have informed me that the new bumper will be similar to the frontier's, with tow hooks for recovery points and "premium placed on approach angle and off-road clearance". They currently have a test vehicle and are in the final phase of development.

TN4x4Xterra 04-07-2009, 12:27 PM Glad to see that Calmini is stepping up!
Maybe they'll be better by the time I order the steering kit from them later down the road
Great to hear the update and that Calmini took care of you.
