Is there a way to mount 4 offroad lights on the top of the standard 2000 nissan xterra roof rack?

just go to your local hardware store or lumberyard and get a piece of angle iron for like 5dollars.

If I had to do mine over again I would probably do them like this, only with round lights.

Here is mine...

In case you can't tell, there are 4 Hella 500's up there.

mine was fairly easy and cost about 80 bucks for EVERYTHING. wires, steel, lights, all that good stuff.

i needed to keep mine lower because i have a packasport pod for snowboards in the winter. it hangs over the front and back of my rack. i did, however, make it really easy to move if i wanna put it up higher. it lights the hood up a little.....but not too bad.

if you're interested i can reveal my secrets.

i think the only thing i would do different is use square tube this time instead of flat stock. somewhere to tuck the wires and loom into instead of just zip ties holding it to the back

i know this is an old thread, but if the roof rack grounded? or did you run the ground somewhere else.

this might be a dumb question..

Roof rack isn't grounded. It's insulated by the plastic ends that mount it to the roof. You'll have to run the ground to a good spot on the body somewhere.

I have but i'm not sure if I should run the wiring down the paneling on the drivers side;

I drilled... Under the roof rack mount..you cant see any wires at all.. then seal it up..

I was thinking about that, but I would really like to run it down the paneling with electrical tape. Is there an easy way to take it off?

with tape? Really!

not sure if that's at all what you're looking to do, but you can run the wires under the seal all the way down to the fuse box and it's cake if you don't mind that little bit o wire running from the rack to the door

i did the same thing.....but instead of running it all the way down that seal.....just drillerd a hole through it.

works great

Im just not a fan on that... I like the factory look.. Each his own...

Plus your messing with a seal... Thats there for a reason..

I went straight out of the hood and up the edge of the wind shield.
As soon as my roof is no longer needed as a development platform I will run the wiring inside and drill through the roof.

An easy way to do it, is run the wires through the door jam. Then take off the handle and paneling on the interior drivers side and run it down that, through the grommet under the fuse box, and then there you go your under the hood.

It's best to drill a hole behind your lights or dam for the wires and then just seal the hole. Looks better to.

I just finished mounting my two hellas and a set of Wally-World square lights (free) onto a D&B Bar. Very low profile. Ill be wiring it up prob this weekend.

Im going to suck it up and drill into my roof but I will be using a waterproof plug for the harness in order to be able to remove or change out the lights if need be.

Picked up the plug at work and only cost me a couple bucks. (employee discount)
But I think it goes for about 40 bucks at West Marine (http://www.westmarine.com/1/1/25079-waterproof-plug-connector.html)

It has a 5 pin connection and is made for the base of a sailboats mast. Each pin can handle about 16 amps and if my math is correct, Each Hella 500 uses about 4.5 amps. More than enough to run two lights off a set of two pins safely. After that Ill be running the harness between the headliner and down the a-frame through the firewall to multiple relays mounted on a custom bracket in the engine bay.

Now I just have to find a place to mount my bad ass safety toggles.
