rusty_nuts 08-13-2006, 04:35 PM Awesome view.I love the mountains! And in an Xterra, doesn't get much better than that.
Anthony 08-13-2006, 06:37 PM Nice! We also went camping this weekend... with the Upstate NY Xterra Club. We camped at Taughannock Falls state park and did wine tastings at 6 wineries on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail.
backpacker101 08-14-2006, 03:15 PM Any backpackers here???
Naw....I just go on these long treks through the mountains holding my sleeping bag, cooking gear, and changes of clothes, etc...in my hands the whole way, why, does the back pack thing make it easier?
:D
backpacker101 08-14-2006, 03:21 PM :auslachen2-big: Thats a good reply , yea the pack makes it easier , where have you been?

Well, the Appalation (sic) Trail, mostly Maine down to Georgia a few times, never all at once...some Colorado, Badlands, Yellowstone (State Parks all over...) various other trails I'd remember if I wasn't also typing two reports while posting...a lot of camping trips with pack-in/pack-out...the tri-state area pretty heavy....Boy Scouts, fishing trips, herpetological expeditions, etc.
The first time I went, I was a wee lad, with scouts. As an 11 year old, I weighed maybe about 50 lbs (I weighed 58 in 8th grade), its on my working papers...my mom made me bring SO much stuff I didn't want to take, but had to, "just in case".
My backpack weighed 70 lb. (Scoutmaster weighed it in disbelief)
It was a Saturday in/Sunday out trip. 70 lb of gear I didn't need but had to bring, 'cause I was kid...and got the "You can't go unless you bring all of it...just in case".
It would have weighed more, but I finally convinced her the troop had chairs and tables there already.
We did a section of the Appalachian Trail (think I might have remembered the spelling afterall...) somewhere near round valley reservoir-ish area....I think a land mark was "Sunfish Pond"? along the route.
Anyway...it was more like passing a longer version of the firman's fitness test than a "Hike" per se. We covered maybe 10 hrs of trail each day. When we'd stop, and I'd take that pack off, I felt as though I would float up into the tree tops like a helium balloon.
:D
backpacker101 08-15-2006, 08:56 AM 70 lbs is a heavy pack , i try and keep mine around 45 - 50 , I have packed in Tn , WV , IN , IL , WI , MI, NC. I will be going to the Appostle Islands in a few weeks , and to WV the first week in Sep. My favorite places are Isle Royale and the Porkies.
My pack outweighed me by about 20%.
:D
THAT was a work out.
Anthony 08-15-2006, 12:25 PM So if your pack weighed 70lb and outweighed you by about 20%, you only weighed like 58.5 lbs?? Man, you've put on some pounds since then, brother ;)
Lets put it this way...I gained more weight after blowing out my knee than I weighed total, then.
:D
I was about 55 lb then.
I gained about 60 lb when I blew out my knee in a soccer game. (I was playing 3-4 times a week...my only real exercise...)
