So .. real close on getting tires now for the X .. current ones are nearly about to fail the penny test.

Anyway, I do most of my driving on the highway (more like 95% lately). Since most of the driving is on road and pretty much dry from here on out, comfort and road noise was on a high priority.

I was checking out Tirerack.com and found the General Grabber HTS (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Grabber+HTS&vehicleSearch=true&partnum=67SR6GRHTSOWL&fromCompare1=yes&speed_rating=S&speed_rating=T&speed_rating=U&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=S) had a higher review rating (and lower price) versus the Michelin LTX M/S (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=LTX+M%2FS&vehicleSearch=true&partnum=67SR6LTXOWL&fromCompare1=yes&speed_rating=S&speed_rating=T&speed_rating=U&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=S). I was recommended around the way for the Michelins, but since this is clubxterra, I needed some more specific recommendations from X owners out here.

Sound off. What do you guys think? Are the reviews on the site fairly accurate?

Go with the Generals. They tend to be cheaper because General doesn't spend nearly as much on advertising as the bigger companies like BFG and sink more into R&D. They also torture test their tires more extensively than the competition. I've been driving 30,000 km on AT2 grabbers and have been pleased with their performance. I'm sure their HTS is just as good.

I was going to ask the same question... currently running Bridgestone Dueler H/L's on mine, and they suck. They are noisy, and seem to hydroplane a little more than I like. I am on the highway a lot, so ride comfort, noise, and wet traction are the most important to me.

I am also between the Michelin LTX, and the General Grabber HTS. THe generals have better ratings, and are $25 each cheaper than the LTX's.

My friends 04 colorado for sure, and I think his 08 silverado also both came from the factory with general's on them, and they seem to be great tires. They wear very well, and they are quiet. That said I'm leaning towards the General's. He ran 70k on the 'rado z71's generals before they hit the bars... Not sure what specific tires they were though.

I'm definitely not putting bridgestones back on...

Michelin's.

I had some LTX's on my Xterra when I got it. They were awesome on the road, wet, snowy, whatever.

DO NOT GET THE GENERALS.

The ONLY tire General makes that is decent is the AT2, the rest suck.

If the only General anyone has had was the AT2, they were lucky....if they had the others, such as the Grabbers that the 1st gens came with stock, they would KNOW that General's SUCK.

MY General's sucked.

Another good Michelin to consider is the Cross Terrain btw.

Yeah I just talked to my buddy, chevy trucks in my last post ^, and the 08 has goodyears on it, he doesn't like them... The 04 had the general at2, but he said they were not original, said it came with continentals on it... says both were garbage... When the Generals wore out he bought some "cheap" Mesa AP All terrains from sears... Said he loved those, but it's not for highway comfort for sure, off-road he says they did well...

He also thinks the Michelin's are the way to go...

Looks like I'm going with Michelin's, I just hate the $115 price tag though, ouch... I remember the good ole days in my Honda, I bought the entire last set of tires on it for the price of one Michelin for my X...
