So looking at some onboard air. I think I decided against a compressor due to slow fill rate of tires, and because of the huge tanks and such needed to run air tools.

So first I was looking here:

http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/CO2-Kits-p-57.html

And someone was not liking those...apparenlty the regulator isn't as good.

So found this one:

http://www.ultimate-air.com/MultiForce-LT-15-System_p_10.html

More expensive, but less than Power Tank...15lb is only $20 more than the 10lb so why not.

Also someone mentioned just getting a good regulator and stuff and swaping tanks at a welding supply when you need a refill.

Not sure which direction to go - also a guy I know was saying that CO2 heats up more than air, and if the pavement is hot it would heat up the tires and could cause problems?? Not sure I buy that one.

So any recommendations or ideas?

im not real familiar with the co2 setup for automotive use but i do use it to refill 20oz bottles for paintball... and let me tell you that stuff dosent heat up it gets really cold... i know when i get out on the field and constantly use my gun it will get so cold that the barrel, body and the tank will ice up due to the coldness of the co2...

Yes - it gets cold (the bottle) when using. But when it's inside tires that's when he was saying the heat issue. It's like any gas at that point - it will heat/cool with temp like O2 will.

Yes it gets cold but it is not a worry. When you fill up you leave it a few pounds light because when the tires heat up it might expand a bit. The main worry is if the tank gets real hot. Once when it was 100 plus in NYC and I had a full tank in the back of my closed window, sitting in the sun truck the safety valve blew. Lost all the co2 and had to pay for a new refill. I don’t leave the tank in the parked truck during the summer any longer.
I’ve got THIS (http://offroadair.net/products2.html#8) regulator from off-road air. I really like it because its liquid filled so it can take the vibration it endures being in the back of my junk heap. After spending a small fortune on their entire system I’ve learned that a tank is a tank is a tank. So if I were to do this again I would spend on the regulator then find all the places to get a tank filled local to me; welding shop, fire extinguisher shop, fountain soda shop. Ask what they would prefer (your own tank or theirs) and what it will cost to refill. Compare; this way I could make a decision that will work for me. In my case it would have been cheaper to buy a used tank from the refill shop and cheaper still if I just did an exchange with them. Live and learn. Good luck.

i toyed with the idea of CO2, but the biggest issue i had with it was that you have to refill the tank, its not self sustainable....with my luck i'd forget to refill the tank before going wheeling and not be able to run a locker(if i had one), air up my tires, or run air tools if i needed

i came up with this, it works really well....5 gallon tank fills to 120 psi in about 4 minutes...the compressor was a real surprise, has a high duty cycle and a bult in thermal cutoff switch to protect from overheating

Its due to the rapid expansion of a liquid to a gas. When co2 is compressed inside the tank it is liquid, when it is released and turns into a gas. it gets cold. I used to work as certified air smith (I got paid to work on paintball markers AKA guns) and play at the semi-pro level

I tried - said there was no use with that name.

I use the Hyperflo fixed regulator that I got from www.4x4rockshop.com (around $60 shipped). Here's the link to the regulator: http://www.4x4rockshop.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2147

I don't use an adjustable regulator as I don't use it to run tools...I just use my OBA to fill up tires. I'm using a tank from an oxygen/welding supply company and it gets swapped out with a full tank for $16 when I need more (which isn't that often at all). Like Tom said, don't leave it in a hot truck. Otherwise, I have a flex hose and attachments for filling up tires from Northern Tool. Overall the setup was less than $150 to put together, including the $50 for the Source tank bracket in the back of my X. http://www.4x4rockshop.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2142 It works just fine.

he can get a deal on alot of stuff from Hornblasters. if you want a compressor and tank style OBA that is. CO2 is a different story. i don't think he cant get you that stuff.

Really? Who did you play for? I used to play some tournaments a few years ago, nothing big though, we didn't travel out of the mid west very often.

. I don't play as much any more. Mostly just rec play. I had personal reasons for getting out of the tourney scene. I'll try getting pics up some time soon. Field paint costs suck balls (pun intended), field owners claim it was because of the insurance policies but that’s bull shit. Its nice to play the "backwood" local games now with a bunch of people you like playing with.

I have tons of equipment left over and I have a few tippmanns stored some where. I still have my EVO auto cocker, SP Shocker, an old school phantom and a WGP sniperII. I'm happy with just going out with the pump guns now.

I played for a lot of teams throughout my paintball career, Problem with playing at a higher level like that is that you have a million obligations to fill and sponsors to make happy. I was spending 5-6 days a week playing or drilling at the local indoor paintball field. I was sleeping on the couch there at night, waking up in the AM, cleaning the field and drilling. Then I would go to school, only to return to the field a few hours later to play, drill, or ref the game for some money. It was fun…Really fun, but its made you hate the sport, hate the people.

In the end I would not change anything if I could do it call again. The people I have met. The places and countries I have been to. The best was playing in the Skydome ( it has a new name now) in Toronto. Where the blue jays play baseball.

I’m always up for playing now… so its all good

Oh...isn't he selling the compressor/tank? I'm wanting to do CO2.

I got my whole 20lb co2 set up up here is FoCo at airgas for around 200 with the regulator with a student discount. Then I just kept trading mine in until I got a nice tank and I kept it and now refill at jax where its cheaper. The best part about going through a welding supply place is that you wont have to get it re certified every fire years like you would if you owned it. If its getting close to that time just bring it back and get a new tank.
