If the battery ran down as the alternator failed, it may have juice for some low amp circuits, but not higher amp circuits.

Try jump starting it, and then letting it ran for an hour, and see what happens.

TJTJ, Thanks I put an new battery in. Went back out and old ignition cutout theft prevention box beeps when the key is turned. Had it disconnected, just wondering if when I disconnected the battery somehow it got re energized. When the key is turned to ignition I get no dash annunciator light and wiht the headlights on when the key is turned all the way they do not dim. Bob

Is this an aftermarket device?

Yes this is an aftermarket device. Had a key that when the system beeped you punched the key to activate the ignition system... It didnt always unlock the ignition so the wife had it disconnected, now Im wondering if it somehow it got reset when the battery was disconnected.

Sounds suspect to me. It should have been removed completely. Did it just start beeping after the battery install? Was it beeping prior to that? Thats really the question. If it wasn't beeping right before all this happened, then all of a sudden it's active now, I think you have your culprit. Retrace your steps. Do everything you did in reverse.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be a major PITA.

By the way, welcome to ClubX :)

You want him to put the old battery and alternator in? I bet that would at least stop the beeping. ;)

Thanks, Im gonna take a look at it again in the morning. Not sure if the anti theft device was beeping prior cause its a faint beep which you wouldnt have heard if the starter would engage. Just wondering if there is any other interlock or fuse/blown or shorted out that could cause tis complete loss of ignition electrics. Too many other weird things just dont add up. Horn not working, with the key in the ign position , door ajar bell doesnt work, no dash warning lights. Thanks again for all the thoughts.

Thanks all for the inputs to my problem. Went out this morning and started to shoot the wires from the alternator back to the battery. Found that there was no voltage to the alternator main lead, found the problem to be the 80A Battery fusable link. $2.96 at auto zone. Took about 30 mins to replace, brought the vehicle to have the charging system checked and all is well......14.5 regulated volts and 75A @ 2000 rpms at 12.5V. For the record symptom were no starter engagment, no dash warning lights or warning bells (seatbelt, door adgar, key in ignitions) Headlights worked as well as the fan blower and radio. To replace the fusable link you have to unsrew the terminals from the side of the fuze box (under the hood) in order to remove the fuseable link from the fuse box. A little tight working area so I unbolted and unclamped the fuse box and the main wiring bundle from the firewall and seperated the two halves of the fusebox to get access to the terminal screws. Again thanks to all for their inputs Bob

Nice work, glad all is well. Did you remove the security thingy anyway?

Scheduled to remove this weekend. Apparently what they did was to bypass the key punch pad, so when the the key is turned to the IGN position it automaticlly closes the IGN circuit and gives the 2 beeps. Never heard it before due to the engine cranking. But will have it removed completely, eliminating the possibility of that being a future problem.
