Anthony 07-30-2006, 10:15 AM VERY NICE....
I've never seen those wheels before... what are they?
XXXterra2005 07-30-2006, 10:19 AM Thank you. They are MB Motorsports. I just purchased from discounttiredirect.com.
BOOFER 07-30-2006, 11:03 AM +1 on the rims. Sweet!
Are you planning on offroading it?
:D
unclehardrock 07-30-2006, 11:55 AM that's a sweet looking ride you got there....nice work

XXXterra2005 07-31-2006, 04:25 PM Thanks all, I have done a little off roading in Virginia. I will eventually like to do some more, It's a blast.
As you plan on offroading it, please, take off the brush guard, the step rails, and the mud flaps.
:D
If you take them off BEFORE they get broken, and are still purty and all, you can either sell them for more mod money, or, save them in pristine condition, etc.
The brush guards KILL your approach angle, and, worse, fold back and hit parts of the truck that WOULD have been undamaged w/o it. (They are cosmetic only) - They are WORSE than nothing...(They can keep you from getting over things a STOCK X has no trouble with..)
The step rails are flimsy aluminum, at break over, they fold like cubby quail, into your rocker panels (Damaging them, and your rocker panels...).
The mud flaps stick down, and offroad, they hit what you are climbing over, and break off, sometimes breaking the parts they are atttached to as well.
While you are at it, you should remove the rear sway bar, it doesn't get broken at least, but, it whacks the beejeezus out of your rear passenger shock when the suspension droops...and, it limits your rear suspension from drooping A LOT!
:D
OK, that should do it.
:D
Anthony 07-31-2006, 10:20 PM Jeez TJ, are you sure thats ALL?
Well, I think that's enough for now.
:D
Someone has to look out for the newbies.
Muzikman 08-01-2006, 09:33 AM Do the wheels have spacers behind them?
XXXterra2005 08-01-2006, 04:03 PM Do the wheels have spacers behind them?
No I put them on the way they came. The tires are plus one size.
Plus 1...
OK, ...that usually means lower the aspect ratio by 10, and up the width by about 20 mm...with a larger rim.
So if you started with 265/75/16's (Stock OR for example...), you would now have 285/65/17's, etc...an odd size in that case.
What size did you end up with?
:D
Muzikman 08-01-2006, 04:59 PM Looks like MB is starting to make wheels that fit. Good to see.
I assume when he says one size up he means 285/75R16's as that is really the next size up. Althought my dealer tries to tell me they are two sizes larger.
EDIT: Looking at the pic again, there is no way those are 285/75R16's. There is too much rom in the wheel wells.
Anthony 08-01-2006, 06:45 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe those are 17" rims. So my guess is for 265/65r17 or 265/75r17
I was just discussing the Plus 1 concept, not actually guessing...I just asked him.
:D
Just waiting for him to check back....:schlaf2-big:
Anthony 08-01-2006, 08:43 PM O I C ...
XXXterra2005 08-02-2006, 09:24 PM Plus one is going up one tire size. Stock is 265/65/17 the new ones are 275/65/17.
Well, no, Plus 1 is keeping the SAME diameter TIRE, with a wider width, lowering the aspect ratio while increasing the section width to gain a wider contact patch....WITH A ONE INCH LARGER RIM.
:D
It usually involves about 20 mm of section width and about 10 of aspect ratio...and a one inch larger rim (The RIM is the ONE in Plus ONE).
What you did (Instead of Plus 1) was to go up 10 mm in section width, but with the SAME aspect ratio, so you went up in DIAMETER, but,... the SAME RIM size.
:D
That's OK, its just that the phrase has a specific meaning and what you meant was you went up 10 mm in section width, and nothing else, rather than "Plus 1".
Plus 2 is getting a two inch larger RIM, but lowering the aspect ratio even more to compensate, and maintain the same TIRE DIAMETER, etc.
:D
and so forth.
I found a link that might help if my explanation is fuzzy.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=25
275 is a good width for the X....65 is just a little short on sidewall flex for off road, but certainly workable in that range, so it should be an overall improvement.
As you DID get new rims, it WAS of course conceivable that you DID change rims to go up that inch...and actually DO a Plus 1.
Now, I'm afraid to ask...what tires did you go with in that 275/65/17 size?
:D
USC Justice 08-04-2006, 09:15 AM Very nice wheels.

I went with Yokahoma Geolander II. I compared it with other tires it, seemed like a good tire for the price.
:D
I was afraid you were going to tell me you got General Grabbers or something.
:D
Anthony 08-04-2006, 07:08 PM Whats wrong with General Grabbers?
;)
Nothing, if you're a General, and like that sort of thing.
:D
