Dear friends,

I happend to find this site while searching for some information about steering stabilizer for my Chinese version of Xterra. The I found a thread posted by "TN4X4Xterra".

I'm from Beijing, China, the host city of 29th Olympiad. I have a Chinese version of Xterra 2.4. It's called Paladin. The engine, transmission, chasis are all quite similar to Xterra XE 2.4, but it is a 4X4 version.

The stock shock absorber on this Paladin is crappy. Many owners in China hates that stock absorber. Then I wrote a thread on one of the 4X4 forum to tell everyone what Rancho RSX absorber should be used without lifting the body. Everyone who listened to me and used the right RSX(17123/17124) shock absorber quite trust me now.

Now I need to fulfill a new obligation. That is about adding steering stabilizer on to my Paladin.

By searching the web, I noticed that RS5402 and RS5592 are the ones I need. But when I talked to local Rancho distributors, they do have RS5402. But for RS5592, they will not place the order as they think the request of this part is quite few. BTW, this Paladin is not as much popular as Jeep Cherokee here in China.

So I wonder if someone here could do me a favor to draw a sketch of RS5592 so I may find a local workwork to get it made. By looking at some of the pictures of this RS5592, it's quite easy to make this.

Appreciate your help and thanks in advance,

Jiannan

It's pretty much the same as you view this site in the States. With Chinese Operating System, my machine could display pure English interface and Chinese interface as well. But with your English OS, you won't be able to view my thread post in on a Chinese web site. But please try this anyway and let me know how you feel. It's a writing about choosing right RSX17000 absorber for my Paladin.

That's awesome! Welcome to the Club!

It's cool that the mirrors and door handles come color matched, it might be pretty cool to swap one of those "Paladin" basket fairing covers on an X. Im sure they're the same size..

Yeap, I was there at that time. I can't exactly remember where I stayed. It's a place to the north of Boston. I visited May Flower, a ski place near the border with New Hampshire. I even drove from Boston to Buffalo to see the Fall.

I hope someday I could visit the States again to shop for the gears. In China, there are not so many choices for these things. I do shop around on the net in China. But shopping these things in the States and ask them to ship the stuff to China could bring lots of trouble.

Today, I'm going to organize a Chinese Xterra Owner's gathering. About 15+ Paladins will be attending this event. I'll post some pictures here after that.

I am a little late also. Paladin. Damn thats cool. Does "Paladin" mean anything?

I just see it as odd that you in China, Nissan isnt like a character or symbol, they uses the alphabet like on the other side of the pacific.

Is it true that by using characters you cant write to anyone in the east? Someone told me that everyone in the east uses the same symbols so that everyone can understand the writing. Maybe they were an idiot, but I am still curious.

Anywise, post up those pics of the Xterra/Paladin get together, that's something that would be awesome to see.

Better late than never; Welcome to the Club!

The local manufactorer of this Paladin says it's a name of an ancient warrior. But don't know exactly where this is from.

That's not true, Chinese characters could only be recognized by Chinese people or some overseas Chinese. They look still different to Korean or Japanese characters.

I do believe there is a chance for me to take some pics of 1st gen Xterra together with Paladin. I know someone nearby Beijing got one Xterra. But I guess that's illegally imported.

Paladin:

The very original foundations for a paladin goes back to the Roman era, in the early 4th century, when Emperor Constantine rose to power.

The original protectors of the throne, the infamous Praetorian Guards, had sided with Constantine's rival, Maximinus. Constantine was famous for his colossal ego, and he did not forget that they were his enemies as he was trying to seize power, so when he assumed the throne he permanently disbanded the Praetorian Guard. However, the Praetorians acted as the Emperor's personal army, as well as his "special troops", similar to the Waffen SS of Nazi Germany, so this left a void in the Roman political/military structure that needed to be filled.

In their place, he created the Scholae Palatini, the guardians of the Palatine. They were named after the Palatine hill, the hill in Rome where the imperial palace was located. Rather than fill the ranks of the Palatini with Italians, as the Praetorians had been, he used German and Gallic warriors in their place. This was done because the Praetorian Guard had become a launchpad for Italians with political aspirations. By making them German, he was introducing a soldier who did not speak Latin and had no means or desires for political advancement. They were completely loyal to the Emperor, knowing that they were at his mercy.

The Roman empire collapsed late in the 5th century, but this was not a cultural collapse, merely an acknowledgement that the central Italian government no longer held any authority. The Germanic kingdoms that survived the Empire kept the old Roman cultural infrastructure intact. Most of the Germanic kings even copycatted the regalia and customs of the Roman Emperors. A purple robe with fur trimming, a magnificent sceptre, a golden crown, all of these were Imperial styles that the later kings adopted.

In particular, the Franks kept the name "Palatini" as the personal retainers of the Frankish king. Over time, the word Palatini mutated into the word Paladin. the most famous examples of historical Paladins were the Twelve peers of Charlemagne, encapsulated in the epic poem of the paladin Orlando (sometimes also called Roland). Orlando was the famous retainer of France who defeated the Islamic invasion of Europe that was spreading up through Moor-controlled Spain. His decisive victory staunched the spread of Islam in Europe, and no further attempt to invade would occur until the Ottoman invasions in the early modern era.

The term Paladin faded out of use in Europe with the end of feudalism and languished in obscurity until it was ressurected by Gary Gygax, who wrote the first edition of dungeons and dragons, in the 1970s.

The name Xterra came originally from a triathlon (http://www.xterraplanet.com/) named the same that Nissan was one of the original sponsors of.

Nissan no longer sponsors the event, but the truck maintained the name.

Cool, then name "Xterra" more accurately reflects the characters of this truck than "Paladin", truely.

The first I ever recall the term was watching the television show Have Gun Will Travel (in reruns, not quite that old) and the title character was named Paladin : http://www.thrillingdetective.com/paladin.html

Shortly after that I remember D&D coming on the scene.
It's still a cool name for our overseas counterparts.

The area around the school is filled with some of the wealthiest families from around the world so the cost of living there is quite a bit higher than say, South Dakota! hehe.
Used to walk by one frat house that had nothing but $100,000 or > cars parked around it.
Mentioned that in conversation once with some wealthy people we were doing a job for and they told me those were just the kids with 'new wealth' (movie stars kids, singers) but that the kids that really had money were the ones being picked up in their Bentley's with personal bodyguards.

The flip side to that coin is that the school programs are usually well funded and so the quality of education available is outstanding.

When my youngest kid was looking for a graduate school, he found that if he went to Toronto, the tuition was ~ 1/4 of what it was in the US, then they gave him a scholarship and a TA position, so by the time he was done, they'd paid him to get a Masters Degree.

:D
