I am pretty sure it is the bar that runs across the back just in front of the spare.
I just want to make sure that is it before I remove it.
And also, do I remove it from the frame, or disconnect from the arms that hang down?
Again thanks, and sorry for being un-educated when it comes to trucks.

I don't know about the first gens, but most sway bars are the same. It will be a funny shaped bar that connects between the axle and the frame. There shouldn't be too many bars that fit that description.
If you are going to remove it completely I would remove the entire bar and ends. This will help when you go to get inspection. If you leave the bar and just take the links off, they will make you put the links back on. In most cases, if you take the entire bar off, they won't notice it's missing. If you plan to only disconnect then you wheel, just take the ends off and leave the bar attached. Might need to move it out of the way and zip tie it up though.

But I can see it just by looking under the back of the X....right.
that is what I thought, I just didnt want to take off something that I shouldnt.
thanks again, I am sure I will have some more questions as I learn more about do-it-yourself mods.

You, you should be able to see it just by looking under the truck.
It's usually attached to the frame at two points (at the end of the bar) and attached to the axle tubes at two points. It's usually a total of 6 bolts to remove it.
I'll see if I can find a pic of a first gen rear swaybar.

Cool man, Thanks,
That is what I was looking at. Looks pretty easy....
Its easy to take the bar off, just two bolts per side, and the bushings/clamps are only really held by one per side, the other hole is really a slot, so all you do is loosen the screw on the top slots, and remove the bottom screw, and it is completely off the bar.
For the links, leave the ends on the bar, and just take off the very top part where its bolted to the frame...that way, the entire piece stays folded together for storage or shipping, etc....and its super easy to put back if you want to in the future.
I recommend putting all the screws back into the same holes after a coat of anti-seize compound, that way, the holes won't rust closed, and, you'll know where all of the parts are.
:D
If you hit all of those threads with nut blaster before you start, maybe a few days in advance, it makes the parts come off pretty easy...if you don't dissolve the rust welds, things tend to strip rather than come out w/o a fight.
