John, the best advice would be to take it to a reputable mechanic. The problem with recharging it yourself is that unless you have gages and know what you're doing, you could make it worse. The amount of refrigerant is critical in order for it to work correctly.

If you're low on refrigerant, you could have a slow leak somewhere. Tell you mechanic to check for leaks, they should have a "sniffer" to detect leaks. You wouldn't want to pay for it to be charged, only to have it work for awhile and have it all leak back out again.

I'm having the same problem with my 03.... on really hot days the air just isn't that cold and I have to keep it on the highest blower motor setting to get any relief at all. especially when idling.. its better while driving but not much.

mines still under warranty it's just hard to get over there with my hours.

Yea my AC is gone. It's leaking out of the hose, so i gotta get that fixed. but i would rather spend that money on admission into Rausch creek or Paragon
These days i am wishing i had it though. That will be my next repair definately.

I've noticed that if it's really hot out, my AC doesn't really blow cold air. But if it's between like 85 and 90, it is alot colder. And I just had mine recharged in April.

:hothot:I'm also airless...but I think it'll be next week before I have the downtime to get it recharged/patched up.

Well I think we've found a weak spot in the X, You know the compressor is not much bigger than a beer can. I quit driving mine until the nightime lows fall into the lower 70"s just takes as long to cool off as it does to get where I'm going........an easy way for anyone to check refrigerant charge......at fast idle (2000rpm) a/c on and blower high, open hood and have someone see if the compressor clutch cycles intermittently (click sound) htis means the pressure switch is cutting out at, usually 18-25 on r-134 system

Mine was blowing warm air during ECXC on the trails... but it cooled off on the way home. I talked to Pat (nissan tech from MD) And he said that if its running too hot, the AC compressor will actually not run. So essentially you are just running the fan and not AC

The a/c in my 06 is cold enough to freeze a side of beef. A week ago monday, after a day of going from my truck, into almost 100 degree heat and then into air conditioned accounts, I got very sick by the end of the day. Anyway, I've recharged a/c systems before, it's very easy and with an initial investment in a recharge manifold unit of under 50 bucks, you're set for life. The 134 systems are a snap.

The Xterra has had a problem with the high side a/c line from the compressor to the condenser leaking. A easy check is to look at it and if it has a oily film on the hose there may be a leak. I would suggest taking it to a repair shop to confirm and have the repairs made. A system that is over or under charged will not work properly. Hope this was helpful.
