Hi everyone,
I hope that someone can help me with this one. My XE 2x has been giving me a squeek that seems to be coming from the front right wheel. The dealer has taken a look at it, but I don't think they give a crap. Our regular mechanic has also looked at it and dissmissed the brakes. What is funny is that it doesn't seem to squeek at high speed. Only <40 mph and usually when hitting a bump. Is there some part of the suspension that may need grease? If so, then why would the front right tire be the only one squeeking? and why would it only happen at low speed? I am about a 3 in the scale of automotive repair. Any suggestions?
Thanks

It would help to know more diagnostic info. Squeeks are notorius for not coming from where they sound like they are.

I assume you are not missing any mice.

Does it do it more on turns or bumps, or only lefts, or rights, or is it constant?

Does the nature of the squeek change with speeding up/slowing down, or does a faster pace give a different squeek than a slower pace?

Does the nature of the squeek change with engine speed/rpm?

Does the nature of the squeek change if you turn on all of your electrical items (Lights, etc...)

Are all of the belts in good shape/adjusted to the correct tension?

Have you done any mods?

Have you repacked the wheel bearings?

Have you greased your control arms/ball joints?

Have you greased your turn stops?

Have you greased your front propeller shaft?

Have you greased your sway bar bushings and end links?

Is your front skid plate loose, from the tiny screws rusting out, etc?

Is your heat shield loose?

More on bumps.

No, same squeek all the time.

Does the nature of the squeek change with engine speed/rpm?
No, doesn't appear to change with engine.

Does the nature of the squeek change if you turn on all of your electrical items (Lights, etc...)
Nope.

Are all of the belts in good shape/adjusted to the correct tension?
Had a 60K service recently. I think they check that.
Have you done any mods?
No mods.
Have you repacked the wheel bearings?
No
Have you greased your control arms/ball joints?
No
Have you greased your turn stops?
No, but wouldn't that only make the noise when the wheel is turned?
Have you greased your front propeller shaft?
I am not sure what that is.
Have you greased your sway bar bushings and end links?
No
Is your front skid plate loose, from the tiny screws rusting out, etc?
I don't know.
Is your heat shield loose?
I haven't checked it.

Have you ever been in an accident or even bumped something? When I bought my 04, it had been in a slight fender-bender and in the wheel well, there was a metal bracket that was slightly bent and was rubbing on the inside of the well when I hit a bump. I looked down there while someone bounced on the front so I could hear the squeak and locate it. Hope this helps!

...i hated that squeak.

Yes, actually.
It was a very minor fender bender. (at least for us, the other driver's door was hanging down a few inches) I will check it out.
thanks chunky.:)

All of the things you mentioned NOT checking, COULD be the problem.

Obviously, if you crash into something, all bets are off...but the noise should have commenced just subsequent to the crash...and you probably would have mentioned that?

Following chunky's advise, I went over and jumped up and down on the side step rails and was able to recreate the squeek. I was correct on the source of the squeek. It is the front right wheel area. Note that the vehicle was stopped and the engine was off. It almost seems like the spring or shock is the cause of the squeek. I am going to take the wheel off this weekend and see if I can find the exact source.
Thanks guys. I will let you know what I find.

You have torsion bars to hold up the front, so springs ar not a likely source unless there's no grease in the t-bar anchor in the lower control arm (LCA).

The shock mounts CAN be loose though.

Also check the stuff I listed above...they are common squeek sources.

Good Luck!

I already asked that (See above posts) - essentially, he didn't lube anything,, and - he has squeeks, go figure...

Good news... squeek is gone. I took my x to get new rubbers and told them about the squeek. By the time I picked up the truck, it has stopped squeeking. When I asked the guy, he said that he lubbed the center link. I am not sure exactly what that is, but when I looked under, there was a few bushings and joints that had been lubbed. Anyway, I just thought I would let you all know. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Too bad you didn't follow any of them.

Glad it got taken care of for you though.

The center link is part of your steering....if you look under the front of the truck, there will be a long straight rod running left/right, with links on its end...
