: FS Used calmini Steering system
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 12:15 PM I'm selling my calmini Steering system. It will fit all 2000-2004 xterra's and frontiers. This is very used and abused. The system goes new for 600 and I am selling it for $200. Like I said everything is included (pitman arm, centerlink, heavy duty tierods etc). The tierods ends should definitely be replaced in my opinion. The system is still on my truck but can be taken off fairly easily.
local pickup or buyer pays shipping.

i know its a long shot, but all i need is the pitman arm!

I actually just talked to james about that. I might do it but I am going to wait and see if I can sell this as a whole first.
rockyxterra 01-29-2009, 12:28 PM if you are wiling to seperate how much for the idler arm....the bushings in mine are shot and calmini is not making any for a while but my friend can make me some if i were to give him a spare and then swap them out cause i can not be with out a car while he makes it
ooh ooh part it out part it out!
you could definetly get some $$ for those tie rod adjusters too!
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 12:30 PM you guys can go in on it together and each have a spare tie rod :)
how much for the pitman and the TRAs? i already have HD TRAs but i know someone in need of them....then, if rocky buys the idler, all you have left over is the drag link
just talked to timb, he'll take the TRAs...
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 12:52 PM Lets see if I can sell the whole thing because I don't have much use for a calmini centerlink or idler arm bracket
Ehsan 01-29-2009, 12:56 PM i might take the ideal arm bracket
Drake 01-29-2009, 12:59 PM Just so you guys know, the Calmini TRA's are a lot longer than the stock or AC ones. They are made specifically for their steering kit and are not direct replacements for the stockers unfortunately. I have a set of Calmini TRA's I can't use because of this. Although I'm hoping to get the barrel machined down and threaded about a half-inch on each side and then cut about 3/4" off of each end to make them useable as trail spares.
rockyxterra 01-29-2009, 01:01 PM ehsan.....the idler arm bracket will only work with this kit...not the stock idler arm..just so u know.....
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 01:02 PM To tell you the truth, I've gotten burned parting out something before so I'm not too interested in going through the process and someone dropping out. $200 is a pretty reasonable price on something that is $600 new. With that said, if one of you wants to buy the entire thing and part it out you could probably make more money than I am by selling each part for a little more. Also take into account what drake said
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 01:05 PM Brian just buy it and part it out. you said in another thread you have the extra cash laying around.
Ehsan 01-29-2009, 01:06 PM ehsan.....the idler arm bracket will only work with this kit...not the stock idler arm..just so u know.....
oh thanks nevermind then

so, wait..my AC adjusters are too short and wont work with the calmini kit?!

They may work with the Calmini kit - but I don't know. The Calmini ones the center section is too big to work with stock steering - at least and be aligned properly.
The A/C ones may work with the Calmini kit - if the thread is the same. There should be enough, but you may want to have someone do some measuring for you.
....hrmmm
now im wondering if i should just get this system, replace the adjusters and sell my old ones and keep the extra drag link and idler i have as spares...
Drake 01-29-2009, 02:16 PM so, wait..my AC adjusters are too short and wont work with the calmini kit?!
Not without sacrificing strength because you wouldn't have very many threads in the TRE. The Calmini draglink is shorter than the stock CL which is where the problem lies.
Read this thread. I posed this exact question over on Ronin a while back:

Yeah the reason the Calmini wouldn't fit was that center section.
But I think we'd need someone to measure whether the A/C ones would work with Calmini - we ruled out the other way around, but not that way. I guess it depends on how long each is in total - the middle section would not be as wide on the A/C so...plenty of thread but yeah just depends on how much thread can get into the TRE.
EDIT:
oops, looks like Ian did measure - Calmini being 1" longer. So yeah probably not as much thread as you'd like.
of course, i could always get longer rod ends for the drag link, and alleviate this problem all together
im going to compare the calmini setup i already have to the length of my current nissan drag link and do some brainstorming...
if none of this is conceivable with the AC TRA's, could you post some pics of the steering? im a little unnerved about 'used and abused' :(
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 02:46 PM used and abused meaning that I definitely wheeled hard with it. I'm getting all the pictures off my camera right now but it may take a while because I'm taking all 714 pictures off the card lol. I took quite a few pics but anything you want to see in particular?
nothing in particular, just the idler, pitman, drag link, rod ends, adjusters, etc....
like i said, if i determine that the AC adjusters will be just too much of a PITA to work with the calmini kit, then ill make you an offer depending on the condition and i'll keep the calmini parts i have now as backups...
if the adjuster will fit, however, i wont really need an extra set, and i might as well use the calmini crap i have now and just continue the search for a pitman
i'll keep you updated

rockyxterra 01-29-2009, 03:41 PM id buy it and part it out but money is tight since ive been laid off...if some one buys it and wants to part it out please send me a PM on the idler arm...thanks in advance
Stickle 01-29-2009, 04:50 PM Brian you could most likely sell those ac TRA at the M&G haha I'm just being the little devil on your shoulder.... You should buy it :devil-big:
DaveC 01-29-2009, 05:04 PM Buy it Brian! It's a great price. Part out the stuff you don't need or keep the whole thing. I run that system and with the replacement idler arm bushings that DO NOT come from Calmini; there are no problems. On my last X, I replaced 2 sets of idler arm bushings in 6 months...I'm not sure if Alex replaced Calmini's bushings with the better aftermarket ones; but if not, it's relatively easy and inexpensive to do and you don't have to worry about it after that.
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 05:16 PM Bandit 4x4 bushings FTW!
DaveC 01-29-2009, 05:20 PM Bandit 4x4 bushings FTW!
You got that right!
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 05:22 PM Order 2 pairs (4 bushings total). It doesnt cost any more to ship even though it costs more initially.
yeah, i have a set of bandit bushings i won at ecxc this year, planned on putting them in whatever system i ended up with
i dunno....$200 is kinda steep for something i already have(sort of)...plus i still need new rod ends...
anyone interested in a set of slightly used heavy duty AC tie rod adjusters?
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 05:35 PM I think Stickle is.....
price? I could use trail spares if the price is right.

well, they're $80 new on AC, i'd sell em for $50 shipped...they have less than 10K on them
if i can line up a definite sale on my adjusters and if rocky is definetly willing to buy the spare idler arm, im willing to buy this setup

Its a thought but i do have a brand new set waiting to be put on.
I could use a pair of those A/C TRA's as well.
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 05:44 PM You got first dibs if you want them. I got the SLR system on mine currently. Plus I still owe alot on my scuba gear.
i just pm'd rocky about the spare idler arm i have...if he buys it off me and i can line up a sale on my old adjusters i will probably take this setup
Alex Topousis 01-29-2009, 05:58 PM *Tentatively sold for everyone else thats looking besides baf6
seems like there is enough interest in my HD adjusters...just trying to get the deal done with rocky...
i'll keep you posted alex
silverbullet 01-29-2009, 06:03 PM It'll be worth it brian. Especially if you go up to 35's or even just to 33's
