I've got the standard steel rims on my 06 which I wanted because I was tired of cast aluminum and I don't trust tape weights. I noticed that I have wider tires than the other 06 Xterras with the aluminum rims, or that's how it appears. Mine came with General 265/70R16's. Do I want to stay with that size or change it? I always used Goodyear wranglers on my Escape, and so am partial to them, but I see many of you use the BF KO's. Any recomendations on this matter for me. I'll go with popular vote. By the way, I don't wheel, I don't mall crawl and I drive about 1000 miles a week. For me everything is utilitarian. So include that in your opinions.

At the risk of catching flack....I'm going with a more HWY friendly tire, probly a BFG Long trail 235/75 17 .....The worst thing I drive on is red clay, and the only difference in 2wd and 4wd, is when in 4wd you move sideways only and in 2wd you fishtail alot but you progress forward...

Just find a good ole snow tire or a decent all terrain. If you're not going to take it off the Highway any agressive all terrain or mud tire isn't going to wear as well and you'll have lots of road noise.
If you're not wheeling, you don't need an AT really.
Go with 275/70/16 Michelin Cross Terrains.
The truck will wake up like you wouldn't believe going from the General Crappers.
They are not really AT's, just agressive highway tires...they don't hydroplane, they grip in snow like crazy, and they handle really well for a truck tire.
Another good alternative is the Bridgestone REVO AT, a very mild AT that is biased towards the street, and also does amazing in the snow with decent handling.
The other recommendations are not as appropriate for you, based upon what you said were your criteria.
I have the BFG AT ko's, and I love them...but, they are aggressive AT's, and not really the right tool for the job you outlined.
Hope that helps!

I wrote the information down, and will go to the tire store and check out the michelins. Many thanks.
