: New guy, 02 s/c just outside chicago
mac11 01-25-2009, 05:36 AM I've been poking around for the last few days here and there so I guess it's time to say hi.
I'm Mac, from about 20 mi outside Chicago, and I just got my truck today.

Bought this from a dealership in the northsuburbs of Chicago. It's had the 'Nissan' and 'supercharged' badges removed from the tail gate. Was this anyones car from this board?
The dealer did a hell of a job cleaning this up. Their original pics showed some stains on the drivers seat and it is nearly flawless now.
bluex 01-25-2009, 05:59 AM Welcome that X is really clean!! COngrats
so that is what a stock Xterra looks like I haven't seen my like that in about 2 years...:)
mac11 01-25-2009, 06:07 AM anybody ever fit a motorcycle (sportbike) in the back?
I kinda doubt it but it would be really nice.Thats probably the only thing that I may regret about not having gotten a pickup.
dezurtrat 01-25-2009, 07:22 AM Welcome to CX!
mac11 01-25-2009, 07:28 AM thanks! you can see how good a job the dealership did of cleaning the truck up.

vandebogart 01-25-2009, 08:27 AM Congrats!
Nice X
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:33 AM oh, i've got 85k on this thing right. I am going to assume big maintinance things like the timing belt have not been done. The truck didn't come with an owners manual. When do i need to start doing things like the timing belt and any maintinance on the 4wd system?
DaveC 01-25-2009, 08:41 AM Congrats on the new X. She's beautiful!
Timing belt, water pump, spark plugs @ 105K miles. 4wd system just depends on how much it was or was not used in its life. Check the fluids everywhere and change/flush/fill as necessary.
Plenty of info in the Maint. section here, and any other questions just post up in the maint. forums and you'll have an answer soon after. Lots of great advice and knowledgeable people here.
Welcome to CX!
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:49 AM thanks a lot, dave.
Drake 01-25-2009, 10:09 AM Looks good!
If you want, pm your email addy and I can send you the tech manuals in .pdf format since you don't have any kind of owners manual with it.

Alpha 01-25-2009, 08:08 PM nice rig dude!
4x4 se supercharged just like mines :)
Time to start modding
Is yours locked from factory?
cheers :)
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:11 PM you'll have to excuse me ignorance.
locked? I can only assume locking differential?
Rugger02 01-25-2009, 08:13 PM Welcome aboard man! I'm still kinda new too. Everyone in this club are fantasitc and a lot of help. Enjoy.
DaveC 01-25-2009, 08:34 PM No 1st Generation Xterras are locked from the factory.
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:35 PM what exactly do you mean they are locked? what is locked?
DaveC 01-25-2009, 08:38 PM I can only assume he's talking about a locking differential. There are two types; selectable and non-selectable locking (such as an ARB rear locker vs. a Detroit rear locker, or Lock Right, etc...).
Now, some Xterras (1st Gen) came with LSD (Limited Slip Differential), but none with lockers. The factory e-lockers (Electronic Selectable Locker) didn't come as equipment on an Xterra until 2005, and then only on the "Off Road" model.

Well that clears it up,
Yes i mean a select-able locking rear differential.
I thought some 1st gens brought it, I had read it somewhere, guess the info was wrong and I was wrong on assuming it was right :)
Anyways, what are the plans for the truck?
Cheers :)
DaveC 01-25-2009, 08:54 PM Nope, just on the 2005 and up Off Road models. It's all good though...there's a lot of bad information or mis-information out there...so no big deal.
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:55 PM it is a daily driver and will be used to pull my race car around this summer.
not planning on replacing anything until it breaks.
I do want to set it up so it pulls better. Probably some sort of suspension tweaking and beefier brake pads/shoes.
Dump and flush all the fluids once I can stand to be outside. 5* today.
mac11 01-25-2009, 08:58 PM whats the easiest way to know if i have an LSD? is it built into the vin code or anything?
Alpha 01-26-2009, 02:17 PM Look in the rear diff cover, it will have a yellow sticker that says LSD oil only if it does
cheers :)
TN4x4Xterra 01-26-2009, 02:20 PM Welcome!

judging by the way it drives, it doesn't, but thanks for that info. Will check it out.
So how do i beef the rear suspension up to tow to its rated capacity without dragging the rear bumper on the ground?
