Here are pictures of my Keyfob that I painted to match my X, and my homemade Homelink. I hard wired a momentary switch to my garage door opener and then hid the opener behind the dash, above the radio. Looks cleaner than on the visor.

I like the clean install and the key fob looks good too. I'm not sure what year you have but it may be a good idea to also paint the bezel in front of your dash gauges too. I did it on a honda civic a few years ago.

How hard is it to get to the garage door opener to change the battery?

ggunn- I have an '05 Xterra. I really wanted to paint the instrument bezel. I removed it (a real pain) but the front clear plastic is not removable. I wanted to paint the outer rings of the speedo and the tach just like the SE and the pathfinder. Oh well. I am also going to paint the upper center console plastic, and the trim around the radio to match, kind of like the pathfinder. I will also paint the plastic piece around the window switches. Will update with pix.

muzikman- It only takes a second to get to the garage door opener. I simply pop off the storage tray above the radio and there is the door opener. Can post pics if you would like.

Actually, what I am more interested in is how hard was it to get to the back side of that switch blank? I plan on using my free spot for a switch for my car computer.

Car computer? What do you do with that?

It is not that hard.

Carefully pull up on the storage tray. The tabs are actully on the sides of the tray so focus more on the sides. It should pop right out with a little force. Then you have one screw holding in the center/radio surround. After removing the screw, pull the center piece towards you. Next disconnect all the wiring harnesses. One harness has a safety latch, you should be able to figure it out. Be careful with the center piece. It has metal tabs on the bottom and can scratch other plastic pieces easily! Now, the blank cover can be accessed. Unfortunately, to remove that entire plastic piece, you have to remove more parts. I was able to get a small screwdriver on the backside of the blank cover and lift up on the tabs to remove just that one piece. Good luck.

Note: Never turn on the ignition with the passenger air bag light indicator wiring harness unplugged. It will generate an error and the air bag light will flash for eternity! If this happens, turn the ignition key to ACC but do not turn the engine on. Right after the air bag light turns off, turn the key off. Do this three times to reset the code.
Any questions and I will help as much as possible.

Well, it's main use is a nav system, but I looked at it this way, for the price of an out of the box nav system I can have an entire computer.

That way I can surf the internet while driving down the road. ;) <JK>
