: New 2.3" pulley
jimnibob33 01-16-2009, 03:37 PM I was wondering if anyone could help me. I just ordered a 2.3" pulley for my 2003 4X4 and was wanting to know if there is anything i should do with the ECU since i am adding a few pounds of boost. Just dont want to screw up my ride. This will be the first set of mods I will have done to my xterra besides cold air intake.
get a boost/vacuum gauge and tap it into your intake vacuum line...just to keep an eye on it...buy your ECU should be able to adjust the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio enough to take advantage of a few more lbs of boost...make sure you have a decent pulley puller when you do the swap!
ontario AWD 01-16-2009, 08:57 PM You might have to run premium fuel to take advantage of the extra boost. If the knock sensor hears any knock it will pull your timing.
jdmarine 02-01-2009, 06:20 PM I have the 2.3 pully on stand by but I am too scared to change it cause I have heard it can kill the supercharger
NissanTy 02-04-2009, 12:29 PM how many miles on the X? if its below 100k miles i say do it, but to be safe take it to autosone and see if its got a K/S code (won't trigger the CEL), if the K/S is bad the pulley will do nothing for you as the ecu is in limp mode causing the truck to loose power. if all checks ok slap it on and enjoy, however i reccomend a cat back exhaust so that engine will be able to exhale all that extra air and boost from the intake and smaller pulley.

What is a K/S code?
The stock charger is boosting 7Lbs, with the 2.3" pulley according to 4x4parts its gona boost 12Lbs, that is more than a 75% increase, I would be careful.
The life of the engine is going to be significantly shorter, youll be redoing it before you thought you would.
Screw it, do it, its supercharged anyways might as well get the most out of it :)
Cheers :)

well if the knock sensor goes bad the ecu will go into limp mode cutting the boost of the s/c down to about 3psi and your truck will be slower then a old honda with a fart can. the knock sensor indicates knock in the engine, if it does it goes into limp mode cutting power back to be safe, well if they go bad then your power is cut back all the time, however this will not throw a CEL light, its only detected through a code scanner, thats why im saying check to make sure its not throwing a k/s code because if so the pulley will do nothing, get it checked, if its all good then throw on the pulley and roast them tires off.
xtrain34 10-28-2009, 12:39 AM I took the supercharger off of my2002 and sent it to steigmeier porting services in Missouri. Sent the new pulley I got from southfloridapulley.com and had them port and polish the inside of the blower, rebuild it and install the new pulley. I also put an AEM cold air with a 2 into one magnaflow 280 muffler. Iwas gettintting almost 8psi from5psi stock. One month later which was 3 days ago I installed water/meth injection and hit 9psi when it was 55 degrees along highway 1 by half moon bay ca. The eaton experts told me the blower is capable of 14.7 psi, I plan on achieving 12 max after building my motor to handle it. My only question is where can I get a crankpulley that is bigger on the front level for the blower?
mac11 10-28-2009, 12:48 AM The eaton unit is usually for for ~15lbs of boost or 20,000rpm, whichever comes FIRST
If you have no way to monitor and adjust your AFR's this is not a real great idea. You probably want to pull back some timing too. I know the compression ratio is low as hell from the factory but ignition timing too advanced will blow your shit up in a hurry.

Can you give us an update on how things are going with the ported supercharger and 2.35" pulley? Have you had any issues in reliability?

knock sensor
i would go with higher octane fuel to compensate for the extra air flow keep the engine from pinging and it seting off the knock sensor and probably run a little hotter or more efficient plugs try the E3 so all the fuel could burn
LuvMyDux 08-23-2011, 02:12 PM I know this is an old thread but any updates with this? I'm looking into doing the 2.3" pulley swap and wanted to know what else I need to do in order to have no issues?

i would retard the timing by a couple degrees (~4-6*) if i were to up the boost.
Jrkarbal 09-27-2011, 12:01 PM I have read about all the old threads about getting asmaller pulley. I have a friend who does work on drag strip vehicles and is willing to help in the swapping and retarding of timing. I know headers would be the best bet to free up the exhaust the most and I already had done a custom catback and stock mod intake. Would the fuel pump and such need upgraded as well? Or should the ecu be able to compensate along with a hotter plug?

ecu can't compensate if you don't physically have enough fuel injection capacity.

Jrkarbal 09-27-2011, 12:24 PM In that aspect, would the 2.4 be a better investment? Since fuel wouldn't be as much of an issue? The headers into a single hi-flo cat connecting to my exhaust this what I was looking at. the w/f ratio can be looked at with my mechanic friend and i can easily install the vacuum gauge and a/f gauge. But what's yer thoughts on that pulley. Mind you i have a 2002 with only 39.7k miles on it
mac11 09-27-2011, 12:29 PM My thoughts are that you need to figure out how much power you want to/would be running at that boost level. Use the fuel calculator in the link there to see how much fuel is required to make that kind of power. Then compare that to how much fuel your vehicle can currently deliver. Then there is no guessing or "this guy on the internet said it would work." You will know for certain that the equipment you have will either work or need to be upgraded for larger capacity components.
I don't know the capacity of the OE pieces off the top of my head to plug the numbers in for you but I'm sure you can find that out.
Jrkarbal 09-27-2011, 12:47 PM I'll have to check it out. I am looking to get enough power to compensate for the winter mods I have coming. As in 33 pml with DIY bl and custom front bumper my father and i are drawing up right now. And I wouldn't mind the little extra passing power because I have a buncha fast and furious drivers round here that really bug me. And I know this truck ain't a power monster, and I only off-road a little bit rght now.
