Just joined----seriously considering an Exterra off-road, and been really trying to do research--this looked like a great place to do it.

Xterra OR are great.

A few guys I wheel with have them, and they kick ass.

:D

(I have an old '01)

Right out of the box, they can handle intermediate trails...the only vulnerability is that Nissan doesn't supply Sliders, but on the OR, they leave off the flimsy aluminum step rails assuming you will get sliders on your own....and, the stock skid plates are a bit thin, but better than nothing....and no thinner than Jeeps' or Land Rovers', etc, stock skids.

They have power to spare, and handle well for a real truck with a frame and flexible supension.

They're also very versatile for cargo and passengers.

The rear locker option is worth its weight in gold, as there's no real after market way to get a locker back there yet....and it WORKS!

The longer wheelbase of the X makes it a great hill climber...last run with jeeps and X's, all the X's made it up a steep muddy sluice on one try..a Jeep Rubicon needed about 13 tries, and barely made it. (On rocks, the jeeps' in its element though)

in short, a great choice!

:D

Welcome to the Club! There are a lot of people who are incredibly knowledgable about the X.

Feel free to ask questions, there are tons of people who will answer.

Welcome! We just bought our first X ourselves. It's an Offroad, nothing bad to say about it thus far.

Well, the dealership tells me they're getting an 'offroad' in tomorrow's shipment. He said it was a stripped model---automatic & O/R package was about it. Just over $28,000 (list, of course)
Thanks for any and all info.
I'm really torn between a Tacoma O/R Crew cab and an X

Taco's are great, I off road with'm too.

The X is better though; the Taco has a departure angle that kills you.

Every time they come off a steep hill, or off a ledge, etc...BANG!!! it sounds like the damn rear bumper is coming off when they hit.

The rear lockers rock in the X.

So, if you of road, I'd get the X...if not, its whether you need the secure cargo area, or the open bed of a p-up.

Hope that helps!

We picked ours up for just over 26K with the added stuff we wanted. It's an O/R but loaded. MSRP was just under 30K. Right now there is a 1k rebate on the X's still (I believe) so I would say you should be able to get it for around 25k after rebate.

Well, we did it. $26,300 was what it ended up at--list was just under 28,000. Wasn't near as stripped as the guy portrayed on the phone----it has power windows, door locks,CD, cruise--this seems to all be standard (and things I really don't care about) ---I envisioned an X model type without alot of that. Of course its the O.R. too. I asked "so what makes you consider this stripped?"---his reply was "well, compared to a fully decked out SE or Pathfinder it is, but the list of standard equipment on the new Xterra's is pretty extensive"--------I have to agree.
The good news is that I got what I wanted for my trade---that's a first. I refused to budge on that amount, and honestly expected to drive home in the 'old' ride; at one point we were picking up to leave. But i'm sure they made it up in the price----oh well, I feel good about it.

Congrats on the new purchase! Sounds like you are happy with the deal you got. Trade-ins suck! Good to hear you got what you wanted for it. We ended up keeping our other car to sell ourselves, they wanted to make their money on it so I pulled it out of the deal. Now we just have to sell it!

You can still get a bare bones S 4X2 for around 18K-20K over here, but they are really stripped. Most of the X's on the lot when we got ours had power options.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

congrats on your purchase and glad to hear you got what you wanted for your trade-in. I also got a great deal on mine it was used but i pretty much walked in to the dealership and told them how much cash they were getting and which two vehicles they where going to take ('90 camaro 6cylinder 110K miles and '89 f150 2wd i paid $200 dollars for) as trade-ins. enjoy and be assured I have been paying attention to what these x-lovers on here are saying. if they don't know the answer they will find it for you.

Thanks---Have to say that I think this is the best 'Off Road' package value out there after weeks of researching and comparing---with the Tacoma right up there too. So many makers still consider a 'sticker' to constitute an "O.R." package.

Can't wait to try the locking rear differential

ETA: after we left the Nissan dealership, we went across the street to the Jeep dealership to drop off a "survey" (they said they'd give us a free tank of gas if we personally dropped it off, giving them high ratings--last month we got the wife a Wrangler Unlimited)----------anyways, they had Rubicon Unlimited's for $28,000----0% financing!!!!!!!! Why couldn't that have happened LAST MONTH???
