all you crazy 'boarders! post up! what mountains have you boarded? what's your setup?

mountains i've run:

stowe(VT)
cannon(NH)
sunapee(NH)
loon(NH)
mt snow(VT)
camelback(PA)
mountain creek(NJ)
windham(NY)
bellayre(PA)
hunter(NY)

probably more, can't remember

i currently ride a few different boards:

-burton chopper/burton freestyle bindings...148(tiny, i know, but i LOVE the control i get with a small board)

-my brother's solomon/ride team redneck bindings...153, VERY narrow...can't control it well, and my size 12's hang over the toe edge like 1.5" lol

-my buddy's burton bullet/burton synchro bindings...AWESOME board to ride...nice, wide stance, twin tipped for switch riding...i get great control over it, and serious speed on hard pack

so, what/where does everyone ride?

I've ridden damn near all of the Colorado mountains, I use to compete with the Winter Park snowboard team.

Snowboarding is my passion you could say. I've done A LOT of competitions and ridden a hell of a lot of snowboards. I've been lucky in receiving plenty of free snowboard shit, I've worked with the reps, and coaches. I've been doin it for almost 14 years now and im only 21 so the majority of my life i've been snowboarding and skating.

Right now I've got an elevation 154 forward series with the new burton missions and DC boots, I've also got another salomon setup with burton freestyle bindings and 32 boots. The girlfried rocks a Burton Feelgood 152, with salomon bindings and 32 boots.

I have a couple more rock boards and a couple hanging on the wall as art pieces. Ill see if I can find any pics...

Oh and in high school some buddies and I got permission to have the our first ever high school rail jam. We got Winter Park to bring 2 tons of snow and a couple rails from their terrain park, we got scaffolding donated for a start ramp. A bunch of companies like Smith, DC, Wahoo's fish tack, 686, section, ride, bakoda, northwave, flow, and drake just to name a few all donated free gear and we threw it out to the crowd. It was an awesome event and my old high school still does the competition but it's a much bigger event now. It was my best memory of high school...

damn steezy...intensely jealous of you....

i've always wanted to hit up CO and the west coast, ever since my bro went out to mammoth a while back...i saw the pics, and i was hooked...maybe one day i'll get out there

as far as park riding/technical stuff....i hit small kickers, tables, rails...but thats about it...i never had the time, money, or balls to attempt any serious shit...i just enjoy hopping on a lift, getting to the top, strapping the right foot in and bombing down the mountain as fast as i can...thats it...

Steeze
01-12-2009, 02:49 PM
Ya dude I use to spend entire weekends hiking the park jibbing rails and hitting jumps, not so much anymore though. I still like to screw around in the park but I'd rather be in the trees these days.

I swear on my life the best snowboarding in CO happens at Mary Jane. I showed up their yesterday at 10:30 parked for free, hopped on the six pack lift and was shredding some crazy powder by 11. The best part is when your all done dropping insane cliffs and navigating gnarley shutes and trees you can literally snowboard to your X and un-strap at your door.

Remember I take my time and sleep in a bit so I got their late, if you show up early you get better parking. A lot of people will set up BBQ's, bring their dogs and cookout right next to the catwalks, its a super fun atmosphere.

I promise you there is no better way to go snowboarding than that..

Screw bus rides and $20 parking for some tourist destination ski spot (vail, breck, copper, aspen, keystone just to name a few) ;-) I hate that shit if you can't tell..

Corporate ass holes ruin ski resorts

I have been skiing for over 8 years now. My main preference is freestyle skiing. Right now I am sporting 08 seths with STH 16 Salomon bindings. I basically love being one of the few good freestyle skiiers at the terrain park. I have skiied almost every place in colorado except for Wolf Creek and that is just due to the long freaking drive.

I went snowboarding about 2 years ago. Ive been about 6 times since then.

Ive boarded at:
North Carolina at Cataloochee
Colorado at Winter Park and Wolf Creek

I don't have my own set up yet but I may get one off craigslist or something as Snowboarding Season wears down so I can get a pretty good set up for a good deal for next year. I used a Burton Custom X (07) 164cm and really liked it so I may try to get one similar to it.

I think we need to get a bunch of people to meet up in CO next winter and have a big CX party or something.

Wolf Creek is awesome and Id highly recommend it. However they dont have any freestyle stuff. Just some moguls and there are people that will make jumps here and there. But I really like it there plus its pretty affordable.

I have been skiing since I was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade. Used to go every Saturday in Minnesota. Now that I live in VA I try to go at least a few times a year, wish I had more time to go though.

Oh damn I had no idea east coast mountains close that early.. Most of CO mountains close late april early may and some even stay open through June if the snow stays. I'll usually get 2 or 3 backcountry trips in May and June after the resorts close. I really enjoy shredding in nice weather, I always end up with the gnarliest goggle tan though.

typically the end of march is the latest we'll make it out here (thats meaning the PA NY NJ area, upper Maine NH and VT are usually open later). A late cold snap or snowstorm can push it till april but the latest I've skiied on the east coast was april 15th @ hunter thanks to a late winter cold snap and hunter making tons of snow to stay open that late due to thier energy contract works.

fall and winter approaching, what are everyone's plans for the season? any big trips? i'll be up in the NH/VT area (cannon, mt snow) this winter, its a nice area around there (beastly snow storms)

any suggestions on bindings? i haven't set a board up in a while, but i remember burton used to use their own hardware pattern and plates for their bindindgs (burton bindings only on burton boards)...do they still do that? whats a decent freeride binding?

I fuggin' dig boarding. I'm a total noob since I live in Indiana. I was in CO last winter and went to Steeze's favorite joint, Keystone. :D
It may be the suck for the locals but I was just happy to be there. I've hit a couple small places before but it was my first time to be somewhere with significant slopes. Had a blast; I would love to live out there and ride with the locals. I'm sure there are some sweet spots. Maybe one day.

I am very excited for this season to fire up- this little slowdown at work should open up some midweek riding days for me!!!

I may be a little light on the cash but the time is priceless!!! I have been skiing since I was a kid, and riding for the last 10 years

I have 2 set ups depending on condish:

#1) steep and deep: 164 Arbour roundhouse/burton mission's

#2) early/late season + sessions + feeling a little reckless: 157w endeavor live series.

Living up here in Edmonton, Alberta- Canada I have access to many of the resorts in the rockies within a half day drive.

Sunshine Village- Banff AB
Lake Louise- AB
Kicking Horse- Golden BC <- this place is my favorite, fuez bowl FTW
Big white- Kelowna BC
Marmot Basin- Jasper AB
Silverstar- Vernon BC
Mount Washington- Van. Island BC
Revelstoke- Revy. BC
Castle mountian- AB, Diamond in the rough if the snow is fresh, never busy
Big Mountian- Whitefish MT- the only US hill I have had the pleasure of riding.

I picked up some new soft gear for this season, and a few of my buddies have just upgraded some gear also- we are all stoked!!

This year I have a group of about 20-25 headed to Jasper for new years. All the guys and gals pack up, head to the mountains and ride/party for the week after xmas and have a crazy NYE party.....soo much fun!

PS- If any club xer's see a dude with a red 2001 grilling some burgers in the lot of any of the above mentioned hills around lunch time, I always have a couple extra's- feel free to come on over for a free lunch.

there are some great spots in the poconos/adirondacks, but its up to you on whether they are worth the drive...i dont mind driving a 3 hours or more just because i hate going to the same spots over and over and over, so i try to sample as many mountains as i can

if you have the time for a long drive(probably 8 hours or so from you) i'd highly recommend some vermont or upper NY mountains...the entire presidential mountain range throughout VT/NH is littered with great terrain like Loon or Cannon mountains... just as awesome is Mt. Snow in VT, or Whiteface/Lake Placid....i just got back from a weekend trip to Placid a few weeks ago, and the mountain is just epic...sure its not nearly the size of most spots in the Rockies or the west coast, but definetly some of the biggest on the east coast

Nice, it would probably be good to do a weekend trip for some of those places up north. I'll look for some good rental houses or cabins.. Winter Wisp in Maryland is a hike for me (4.5 hrs) and me and my friends (usually between 15-25 of us pitching in) have a yearly tradition of getting a huge vacation house for the weekend and some of us hit the slopes out there

definetly look into a bigger mountain then, like whiteface, killington, mt snow, or stowe....all those places have great nightlife and rentals in the area aren't too bad...3 nights(2 of which were weekend = more $$) at econo lodge for 3 people was $330, and that was about 1/4 mile from the main street with all the bars

I ran skis in high school and switched to snowboards after I joined the navy. Still using an old K2 board with clicker bindings. Haven't been out since year before last due to military deployments, this year will be no different :(
Oh yeah, grew up on Mt. Hood, Oregon.

Mt. Hood (OR) (Timberline and Meadows mostly)

Usually drive my frontier or subaru when up in the mountains. Now that I have an X I will probably mount my Yakima rack to it.

Glad to see so many snowboarders on here!

I've been riding about 7 years now. Mostly at Mountain Creek, NJ, where I get a season pass.

Other places:
Shawnee Mt, PA
Windham, NY
Killington, VT
Stratton, VT
Sugarbush, VT
Breckenridge, CO
Vail, CO
Keystone, CO
Copper Mt, CO

and the one time I left the country:
Swiss Alps (Jungfrau region)

I currently have a Never Summer Legacy 159 (made by folks in CO who know their winter sports!), 32 boots, and Sonic bindings.

I have to get a snowboard rack for the Xterra before winter comes!

Just turned 20 in June.

Sponsored snowboarder at the age of 15 and pro skier at the age of 19. (Don't Ask, HAHA!
I was home-schooled in high school to travel for shredding.
I won't name the actual resorts because there's too many but probably around 15 different countries and who knows how many different states. (Don't be jealous, jet lag absolutely kills and my sleeping patterns are effed up.)
I shred about 10-11 months out of the year (sounds amazing but it can be exhausting at times...)
I'm based in Breckenridge, CO and I am taking my first summer off in years... It feels good. And more time for taking the X on the trails!

Not sure how I missed this thread...

I am both a snowboarder and a telemark skier. Picked up tele about 5 years ago for better backcountry access.

My board is a Ride Fleetwood 163cm with Technine bindings (by far the best binding in the business bomb proof and a lifetime no questions warranty)

My inbounds Tele set-up is a pair of K2 Fujitives with Rottefella R8s

I also just bought a brand new pair of Black Diamond Verdicts for the deep stuff

I work as a professional patroller for Snowy Range Ski Area but when I am not there I ski Grand Targhee or the unlimited backcountry provided by living in the snowy range mtns/ CO front range.

yea thatd be sick...7 springs is a really nice place to ride but ud love my home mtn blue knob. its about 20 min from where i live which is like an hour and a half from 7 springs. Blue knobs runs are about twice as long as 7 springs and we have some more difficult terrain which makes for some pretty fun riding. The down side is our terrain park is nothing compared to the ones 7 springs has but if ur like me and love the woods and looking for powder then youd love blue knob after a nice snow storm.

Well most if not all the northern NE mountains. Got Tremblaunt and Mt St Ann up in Canada as well. Sadly have never been graced with the beautiful powder of the west.

There about the same...

If you guys want we can hike the outer rim of loveland pass.. it's about a 2 hour hike, 12,000 ft, crazy wind and cold, avalanche danger, but well worth all the epicness of dropping in on one of the craziest bowls in CO... probably the hardest hike I've ever done though... the altitude, gear, and sometimes extreme conditions make it a very intense hike...

There's about a 6' cirque that drops into a super steep bowl with tons of snow, cliffs, rocks, everything you'd expect from a backcountry bowl.. Once you clear the bowl it's more cliffs and ledges till you hit the trees. Then it's pretty much tight trees all the way to the bottom.

I've wanted to do it one more time before I leave. I guess we can decide based on the conditions that day... if your into that kind of riding of course

The crazy stuff is behind me, but I'll still push it. Mountain list:
everything in NM, TAOS is one of my fave places anywhere. I keep a season pass for pajarito, my home mountain
CO: wolf creek telluride copper vail crusty butt Durango others less memorable
CA: alpine meadows kirkwood the crappy soCal mts
UT: snowbird Alta

It's snowing right now in NM. YEE-AAHHH!

I picked up a LibTech SkateBanana BTX 2010-2011 and some Rome 390's this year. I went and rode it, and then sold all three of my other boards..

Anyone else pick up new gear for this year?

I too am glad I noticed this thread. I mainly ski on Salomon XScreamXPs among others. I lived in Mammoth for ~4-5 years. Have snowboarded, but never took to it since I can go anywhere on my skis.
Areas I've skiied:
California:
Snow Summit, Snow Valley, Mtn High, Goldmine (now Bear Mountain), Kratka Ridge, Mt. Waterman, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Tahoe Donner, Mt. Rose, Incline, Kirkwood (see avatar pic), Boreal, and a few others.
Arizona - Fairfield Snow Bowl
Oregon - Timberline, Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Hood Meadows
Canada - Whistler, Blackcomb
New Mexico - Taos
Colorado- Telluride, Beaver Creek, Vail, Crested Butte, Aspen
Utah - Park City, Park West, Deer Valley, Alta, Snowbird, Brianhead.
Minnesota - Afton Alps
New Zealand - Coronet Peak, Remarkables, Mt. Hutt, Treble Cone, Arthur's Pass, and others.

I've also poached just about anywhere there's snow and a slope.

Remember, skiers have poles to make snowboarders behave...

You lived in Steamboat? I got back kind of late in the summer, I don't suppose you ever saw my truck rolling around?

I just got my X this week so I didn't have an eye out for 'em then, but if you saw a dark blue Miata rolling around that was me.

I don't think so. Were you only there for the summer?

Sup guys...new here. I'm pretty new to snowboarding, only done it off and on for maybe 5 years or so. I'm from Upstate-ish NY. Mostly I ride at Windham, Bellayre, and West mountain...went to Shawnee in PA two years ago.

I ride a Burton Indy 155. Just got a set of flow 5 bindings last year but didnt get a chance to ride on them...thinking about going out somewhere tomorrow possibly.

Can any of you guys reccommend a SUPER comfy boot? I bought a pair of Rossignol boots that are okay, but a more comfortable boot would only improve my riding experience.

Nice that was my first year in Steamboat. Honestly, chances are pretty good that we've met at some point.
My Xterra was pretty noticeable haha I'm sure you would recognize it if you saw it. No more though, I totaled it last night.

I've always been happy with DC boots, although I switched over to the Salomon Savage Boa this year, and so far they've been alright, although the footbed feels kind of narrow sometimes. I bought a pair of Union Bindings this year, and it's one of the best decisions I ever made.
