Hey guys i got a great story for you all. here it goes

So last night around 9:30 me and my buddy tom decided to go off-roading alone at a local spot up by blue marsh lake. I know im stupid for going alone but i did it anyway. so we are back on this road and then we go across a small stream and the X just plowed threw so i figured id go down towards the beach and drive along that. as im driving down the beach there was a small bolder on my left and on my right was some running water about 25 yards away so i didnt think anything about it when i went around the rock. well when i did that i went over a frozen over mud pit/stream and my front right broke threw it first and then by the time i could realize what was going on all 4 wheels were spinning and i was sitting on my frame. so i did the whole forward, backwards shyt but the more i did that the more i sunk in the mud. and the more water came out of the ground. so we try to get out but we cant cuz its water all around us now. so we climb out onto the hood then up onto the roof. we jump off and step back and we both just started laughing, so we go get some rocks and stuff and put it behind the wheels then tryed to get out, that didnt work. so i take put my high jack and hook it to a tree with some tow rope. and all that did was pull the only tree around us out of the ground lol (it wasnt huge but it was about the size a laptop wide.) so i decided to get on the phone and start calling people. i called like 5 people and none of them answered but then my dad called me and i told him whats going on so he lives about an hour from where i was. but he has a truck so i told him to come. but in the mean time my fame was starting to sink and we where starting to freeze cuz it was like 22 degrees out.:kalt-big: so we made a fire and with TP and a lighter.(and wood of course) it kept us warm. so in about 45 mins my dad calls me and hes around where we were but he didnt know how to get to us. so we had to walk like a mile threw the woods till we found each other. we take him back to the X and he gets out and just laughed at us and goes how the f**k do you get stuck in a lake you dumbass. so we tell him then we start trying to get me out. so after about an hour and a half of trying to pull the x out the thing i was pulling from snapped (pic #1) and my tow rope came flying out and grabbed on to my bumper and bent my bumper (pic #2) then my tow rope snapped all at one time. not sure on the tonnage of the tow rope but it was like 3.5" wide. since my bumper was already messed up. we put some wood under my high jack and then lifted my rear end up to that my pumpkin ball was out of the mud then we took some branches and cleaned out mud under it and then we took a chain around it my axle and hooked up a chain hoist that my dad brought with him and it took me and tom together pulling on this thing. till the x started to move. a inch at a time we pulled he out by hand after about 6 feet and about another hour and a half we had the rear wheels on solid ground. we got back in the trucks and gunned it and in a big ball of tire smoke i was out. :anbeten-big: IT WAS AWSOME. it was alot of fun and id do it all again.

SO i learned the hard way why all you guys say dont wheel alone and dont be the first one to go threw something. i know it was a noob move of me and im thankful i got out and i didnt have to get wrecker in there to get me.

i have one picture of me stuck that i took on my phone. but i have alot of aftermath pictures

Good times bro! It's a hard way to learn a lesson to not wheel alone but at some point pretty much all of us have been there done that. Bummer on the rear bumper. There's just no real good lift points to use a hi-lift without having sliders on the xterra unfortunately.

what is this pic?http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp359/Broden21/stuck%20in%20blue%20marsh/P1020018.jpg

is that just sheet metal from the underside of the rear bumper?

it looks way too flimsy to be a crossmember, and i can tell that its well towards the rear of the truck, but wtf is it?

yep, i spent 9 hours stuck in 18" deep quicksand wheeling alone, didnt start off alone but someone had taken my strap out of my truck and left it at camp, then both other parties got stuck int he same area so we started heading back to camp
yeah, bad move, esp since there was video of me going thru the same hole i got stuck in with bumper deep water on top, the 2wd blasted thru that time, but 3 months later it was full of sand instead of mud

It looks to be the crossmember where the spare tire is held by.

The spare's in the cargo area, you can see it there in the other pictures. That thing on the top left is the bottom of the compartment where the stock jack is housed. the crossmember that was damaged houses the cable that lifts the spare tire up.

Wow! Even with the "off road" edition there is a lack of rear tow points. Even though they boast these are go anywhere type suv's there's nothing to hook up too.

Anyway is this place near Blue marsh legal? I have been there before they have an epic Mountain Bike trail.

Sorry about the bumper at least you didn't sink your X.

yes that is where my spare tire was connected i had taken that apart a long time ago and that was the only place that i could pull from at the time. cux my axle was under mud.

Remember pulling from the axle is a bad thing, lol. Make some thick plates with D rings that bolt to the bumper mounts just like the oem hitches do, then you're pulling directly from the frame itself and it doesn't effect your approch angle like a hitch.

+1, i did some stupid shit when i first started wheeling my X

i used to go up to a set of local trails of questionably legality, a few times by myself(well, me and another person riding shottie, no other rigs though)...i did some of the hardest trails i've ever done(worse than most of the blues i've done at rausch) with just a PML....no skids, sliders, recovery equipment, CB.... nothing...

im VERY lucky not to have gotten stuck, especially since the land use was sketchy...i eventually learned my lesson though...

yeah thats the thing like iv done the trails up there like 4-5 times now and its all really easy. never had any problems and i thought i knew where everthing was but i guess i was wrong. good times though ill never forget that night.

Attaching to anything but the frame is just asking for trouble.
All the other things have too much give in them, especially the rear axle & front suspension components. As you saw on your X it's possible to 'tear' through steel. That can even happen to the frame if whoever is recovering you jerks too hard with a hook.

Plates & D rings will spread the load to the frame and keep damage like what you saw under your rig from happening. If you are pulling correctly you shouldn't ever have to worry about shearing off your recovery points.

Attaching to stock bumpers or bumper mounts is also a bad idea as they are made to crush in an impact so are not built to take the shock load of recovery. I've seen guys loop the recovery strap around a bumper mount and I tried to warn them but they didn't listen and kaboom, one side sheared off and left them with a twisted hanging bumper.

Google 'how to use a recovery strap' that'll at least keep you from hurting or killing anyone.

Glad you guys got out and only have some bent up equipment for a lesson learned. Being whipped with an out of control tow strap isn't anyone's idea of fun.
