06 off road comes with tow hook in front on the right side but not on the left. it appars to be drilled for one but no availble. would the part for the right fit backwards to give a 2 point/balanced tow/pullout in front?

No, the stock hook will not fit on the other side and as far as I could find, none of the aftermarket hooks fit either.

I carry a high lifter just in case but the xterra doesnt seem to have accesable points to change a tire. i have the attachment that lifts wheel directly. any other suggestions?
I'm trying hard to imagine changing a tire, that you lifted the X by, to change the tire...?
How would that work?
I jack it up by the tire...which, as the tire is bolted to the hub, raises the truck on that corner, so that the tire clears the ground....
Now...I have to take the tire off of the truck....
I undo the lug nuts, and the truck squashes my foot?
I take the tire with me as I hop up and down in agony...and get the spare...
I limp over with the spare to put it back on the truck...but, as the truck has crashed onto its brakes, I can't get the spare on...unless I jack the truck back up...
But I can only jack it up by the tire, so I'm standing there on my bloody smashed foot, holding my spare, wondering how to do this...
Something like that?
OK - I have it - Bring jack stands...jack it up, put the jack stand under the axle, and take the jack out...
That aught to work better.
:D
Off road, jack stands are notoriously problematic...but if they reach ok, they are typically more stable than a Hi-Lift anyway....so its probably the answer.
I find sliders are a must on an X for offroading anyway...and with sliders, yu can use the hi-lift directly for any end..a much more elegant solution.

I wish to make a correction for you, the stock hook will fit. I purchased another hook from the Nissan dealer, it's the same as the passenger side. I'm sorry, I don't have the part numbers any longer. Make sure you order the two bolts also. It does require some modification of the engine cover pan, but it's thin metal, and using a dremel, it takes only a few minutes to cut an opening.
