We ended up buying a Night Armor 06' Offroad Xterra. It's got just about everything we wanted. 4x4, tow package, RF stereo, step rails, fogs, pet divider, bug deflector, and vent visors. I would post a picture of it but the pictures we took on the coast this weekend are too big to post.

Almost bought a loaded SE pathfinder, but they would not budge on price. They did not want to discount the 20's they put on the rig, $$$. Ended up getting the X for invoice then minus rebate. They also added a few options at dealer cost (step rails, pet divider, vent visors and bug deflector). I feel we got a good deal.

Sad thing is we hit a deer on the way home from our weekend get away. Poor thing ran out, we tried to avoid it but he just kept heading for us. I had to dispatch the deer myself, not something I want to do anytime soon. We probably need a new bumper skin, right front fender, fog light and headlight assembly. If we had my wifes old malibu the deer probably would of rolled up on the hood. Not the way we wanted to end our weekend but at least we did not get hurt.

That's crazy about the deer.

Are you saying you got 2 vehicle? The X and the pathy? I almost traded my X for an 02 SE pathy. It was really nice. But the wanted double what I paid for my X.

ouch.

At least you're OK.

:D

You got an OR, that leaves off the steps, and then paid for new steps?

They leave the steps off the OR assuming you will get sliders. :D

You need to go to

shrockworks.com

and see about some real sliders, and, if there's front end replacement work anyway...consider a real metal deer deflector.

I've hit so many deer with the shrock up front it isn't funny (I'm not sure what number was funny, but it wasn't that number...)...and I've made venison, but no happy body shops...damage free.

:D

I needed a place to mount a winch anyway.

no, just the X. We almost got the Pathy instead because of the options and add ons but they would not lower the price on the options they added. Glad we got the X though. I had an 02 SE pathy before I bought my Titan. It was a nice SUV.

I will check that website out. My wife wanted steps, so she got them.

Congrats Hazertmed!

Sorry to hear about the deer. Seems like - at least for me, thats the same kinda bad luck I have with new cars.

Had my 94 Bronco for 11 years and not one accident. Bought my X and 1 month after owning it, I backed into one of those cement filled poles at a gas station and put a small dent in the bumper.

Anyways,

Good luck with it and drive safe! :)

The nice thing about the sliders is that they are steps too...so you get the best of both worlds.

Another thing the sliders do is protect you in traffic from kamikaze errant trafic.

I have been t-boned and side swiped a few times (I drive 30-60k/yr), and the sliders act to distribute the impact across the frame...and essentially act as tough side bumpers.

If you have kids for example, adding sliders increases their side impact protection dramatically...as in the offending vehical crushes itself upon your slider, rather than penetrating the passenger compartment.

So - steps, side protection, rock/rocker panel protection, break over angle protection, etc. (The stock steps get broken if you off road with them, they are too flimsy)

I'd convince the wife...and, you MIGHT be able to get the dealer to take back the steps you got and credit you the difference...or just e-bay them, etc...there's always a bunch of people who don't off road/don't know better who want them.

Here is a link to my thread on CT. I was able to post a couple of pictures of the X on there, they have higher limits on pics for some reason. http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17425
