Hey guys,

sorry if this topic has been discussed a ton of times already but i'm new here. I have a K & N intake system installed on my 04 xterra and have been having my doubts about how much it is actually helping. Filter seems to get torn up a bit from debris and the heat shield is useless so it's pretty much just pulling in hot air from the engine bay.

I was looking at putting back in the stock air box and upgrading the filter. Just wondering if anyone has made any mods to their stock air box to make it better or if someone has a link to a thread about this.

Check our DIY section for the stock intake mod. It consists of removing the baffle and resonators from the airbox thereby converting it to a CAI. The air is pulled directly from the fender outside of the engine bay.

I tried removing the baffle a while back and there's one screw on the fender wall that was impossible to get out so after an hour i gave up. I'll check out the DIY section and look for some tips.

Once you get the screw out, give the baffle a good yank and it should pull free. It's mainly held on by adhesive tape. I would wear gloves for sure before pulling on it. When I did mine, I raked my hand across the lip of the fender and opened it up pretty good.
