I am looking to put a new muffler on my X to help improve gas mileage because gas prices these days are getting shitty. I am either looking at flowmaster or magnaflow. I got some estimates today, and one shop recommended the flowmaster 40 series, but when i went online and checked out the sound, it seemed a little loud. I am looking for a muffler that will have a noticeable difference in sound, be deep and throaty, but still have medium to low interior resonance. Can anybody recommend anything to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I went with the Magnaflow SUV.
Its more throaty, rich, powerful, yet subdued and capable of allowing you to sneak back home w/o waking those you'd rather stay asleep.
:D
I replaced the big honkin stocker muffler because it was taking up all the room I wanted to stick a 4 gallon tank for the OBA into.

you probably already put a muffler in...but i just signed up a few days ago. i was looking to do the same thing to mine. i ended up getting the new super 44 series from FLOWMASTER. it saves MORE than i expected. i also put in a simple air filter from pep boys which saved me 2 miles per gallon. the muffler saves me at least two..most likely three!! i get 23 mpg!! i am looking to do a couple more things but i need more info first...i am looking to switch to 1. synthetic oil, 2. iridium spark plugs 3. install a tornado? 4. install a hyper ground kit? .....hope this helps. if you have heard anything about those four that i mentioned, good or bad, let me know.

DANGER KAISER! DANGER! don't fall for any of the tornado, hyper, or throttle body spacer propaganda. these items DO NOT WORK! really, if they saved that much gas then don't you think that there would be more sold the big Macs?

I got a flowmaster on mine. MPG still sucks. I don't think exhaust help much or at all really.

i don't thinking any one thing will improve MPG by much. it's more about getting small amounts out of each mod. exhaust, headers, CAI, new spark plugs, etc.
