: how bout this one
gixxersixxerman 12-05-2008, 03:44 PM so ive been thinking about getting another pistol, the only other one ive had was a Tarus PT111 subcompact 9mm and i liked it but was stupid and pawned it and then lost it... Well a couple days ago someone broke in to a house down the block an messed the lady up a little and took alot of stuff.... i live in a place that you would never think it could happen but her son always bragged to his friends about the money jewlery and the 4 ultra hd lcd through out the house, it was some people he hangs out with so thats why it happened... anyways ive been to the range that rents out pistols and shot alot of them and hundreds of dollars in ammo, and came to the conclusion that a sub compact is best for me and i thikn i found what im looking for... my brother has two springfeilds and loves them plus the have the look of the glock that i like so much with out the grip angle that causes alot to shoot high under stress with the glock so what do yall think
http://www.xdpistols.com/item/58078_Springfield_Armory_Hand_Guns_Pistols_Springf ield_Armory__XD_Pi.aspx
also this is the cheapest place ive found to buy though my brother says i need to wait it out till a gun show and save some more plus they usually give extra clips and stuff
json3904 12-05-2008, 04:05 PM looks like a good gun
Steeze 12-05-2008, 05:35 PM Dude I swear my dad just picked another one of those up. That's so crazy cause I shot that same gun just last Friday. How weird...
The gun is sick, shoots hard though so get a good grip, my pops works in security and carries two of them. He's had his concealed weapons permit for about 5 years now.
I definitely suggest getting one.. like I said I shot that same gun a week ago
Crazy
Xterra Mike 12-05-2008, 05:40 PM I got the Glock 26 and i love it. Looks alot like the Springfield. Wish i got the .40 though but the hollow points i got loaded in there should work just fine.
Keyz18 12-05-2008, 05:57 PM I have one of those in a .40 and love it!
unclehardrock 12-05-2008, 06:05 PM i'm a 1911 guy myself, although i have a glock as well, but that's the wife's gun now that i got my new kimber. all that aside, a couple of my buds who are cops all carry those xd's as their off-duty guns and love them. i've shot one, and it's definitely a good weapon
gixxersixxerman 12-05-2008, 07:24 PM well ive always been a 9mm guy because i have small hands and usually they can stick another round or two in the magazine, also they usually have less kick and i like that too.... but after shooting some larger caliber hand guns including a 50.cal tarus lol and a 44mag. i feel comfortable with a 40... i also hear that the quality of springfield is second to none, i like their safety features, i just wanted some other opinions besides my brothers that are a little biased as he has springfield everything from ar-15's and 1911's to some xd and the new xd-m a 19+1 pistol that is out now though he's not a fan of 9mm........
gixxersixxerman 12-05-2008, 10:01 PM here's a qustion to all the gun lovers....... whats a good defense ammo, i mean for the range i dont wanna use 65$ for 50 rounds but i dont know the defferance between ammos ive seen hydro shock, hollow point ( i do know what hollow points are) some black talon or something, but whats hydro shock.... also whats a 45acp would that be better over a .40 ..............opinions
TN4x4Xterra 12-06-2008, 08:05 AM I use 9mm.
Use it for range and loving it.
20 bucks for winchester 100 rounds.

The choice in a defense round has as much to do with the type of firearm you are using as it does the design of the bullet.
For example, many would argue that a hollow point style bullet in .45acp is an ideal defense round but that same round in a cut down compact 1911 has a tendency to cause a jam due to the flat profile of the bullet and a short feed ramp so in that type of gun a more standard FMJ (full metal jacket) would be a better choice. Also, some guns are more accurate with some brands and bullet grains than others. My advise is to spend a little money on a few different brands of ammo, go to the range, and see what your gun shoots the best with. After all, if it is not reliable, then it does not matter what is loaded in it.
As to .45 being better or worse than .40 would be mostly opinion. There are two schools of thought, more knock down power, or better control ability. Keep in mind in a true self defense situation, you will be lucky to hit the broad side of a barn if you are not a well practiced marksman due to the adrenaline flowing through your system so the ability to control follow up shots might be more important. In my opinion, the .40 is a great balance between control ability and knock down power for most recreational shooters.
As with most debates and discussions, you will find many opinions regarding these topics. Another thing to consider is cost. You want to be able to afford the practice it takes to become proficient with your firearm. With increasing ammo prices, unless you reload your own rounds, it is best to spend wisely. I shoot twice a month for about an hour at a time.
Hydra-shock is just a variation on the hollow point design branded by Federal.
gixxersixxerman 12-07-2008, 07:37 PM Thanks Matt for your insight..... im going to stick with the .40 and i can completely understand what you mean about the adrenaline causing you to miss, which is why im moving from my long time love and lust of wanting a glock, after setting down with the local gunsmith he explained the grip/barrell angle of the glock with that of the springfield, im hoping my time in the military as short as it was and so far my ability o handle high stress situations, like seeing a bad roll over and being the first to react before the car even stopped and helpping the driver who was blacking in and out while the cop just stood there on the bank of the ditch as to not get dirty..... i know thats not close togetting shot at but as anybody i hope i can handle the situation.... im a ok shot... i use to think i was good till i seen some pro's shoot and at 50 yards have a 1 inch grouping with 12 rounds... ive practiced my double tap as one said its a good defense and helps get use to gun control... anyways thanks for the advice
theonenonlykyler 12-07-2008, 09:05 PM ill stick to my shotguns and deer rifles... :D
k1w1t1m 12-10-2008, 04:50 PM I was able to get a .22 conversion for my Beretta. That makes for cheap plinking and practise.
midnight runner 12-23-2008, 03:46 PM I have a Glock 26 and 32. I prefer for me on self defense either Federal or Hornady rounds. For the range I use Winchester 100rd for $20. Cant beat that for the range.
O1SalsaX 12-24-2008, 07:28 AM Very nice. I was looking into one of the XD's as well but in the 9mm variety since I have a Glock 22, .40 cal. already.
I run two different kinds of ammo through my glock (even though it eats ANYTHING you feed it without jamming or issues).
For home defense I'll go with the expensive stuff like either a Federal Hydra-shock or a Speer Gold Dot Jacketed Hollow Point. I keep a couple of my 15 round pre-ban mags loaded at all time with that stuff.
For the range I have a few choices, for .40 cal. I'll use the cheap crap stuff since it'll eat anything. Usually Winchester or something like that. I'd avoid Wolf ammo since I've read a lot of bad stuff about it.
I have the Advantage Arms .22lr conversion for my Glock. And it requires either Remington Golden Bullets, or CCI Mini-mags. Both hollow points with high velocity and 40grams. Anything else won't cycle the slide or will jam, stovepipe, etc..
So it requires the higher end of .22lr, but it's still $15-$20 for 550 rounds!! lol
My other option was the Lone Wolf Conversion barrel, .40 to 9mm. Drop in conversion barrel. No other mods required. Just remove the stock barrel and replace with this piece of artwork.
Uses Glock 17 9mm mags instead of the Glock 22 mags and ANY 9mm ammo will work without issue. I just got this and will be breaking it in friday morning. :D Can't wait!
You might want to check out XDTalk.com or AR15.com in the handgun/Springfield forum to find out specifically what ammo works best for the XD's for range use.
Any quality JHP ammo will function flawlessly for home defense.
Good luck with it. And Enjoy it!!
cool9mm 12-24-2008, 10:01 AM The XD,s are great. You could go back with a Taurus pt111 in a Millenium Pro model. The shoot better than the first gens which are real good just not as smooth and the grip was improved. I think you get 2 clips now and a lifetime warranty. If you have an Academy Sports close the are under $350. $200 cheaper. You could get a Maverick 12 gauge to boot for the same price as the XD alone. If money is not a concern HK is the gun to buy. Stay away from Ruger P89. They feed flawlessly but you will be much more accurate throwing a rock. Let everbody know what you go with and give a review. Bought the wife a pink Sig Saur Mosquito for Christmas. Find out what she thinks of it in the morning. Merry Christ-mas and happy shooting to all.:engel-big:
I keep a couple of my 15 round pre-ban mags loaded at all time with that stuff.
Magazines get weak pretty fast if you keep them loaded all the time.
Generally I try to swap my mags out at least once a week, I have 6 mags and keep 2 loaded at all times. Remember to inspect your magazines for a weak spring otherwise you may be shooting a single shot!
02blue4x4 12-24-2008, 09:22 PM personally, Id say go with a nice 1911. Springfield makes a great gun for the price and they do make them in 4" and 3" I believe. It really comes down to what you are using it for and how you feel shooting it. Myself would never own a desert eagle or a glock. Just dont like them. If you have smaller hands and like a 9mm round, maybe you should check out a walther pps. My friend just picked one up for his carry and loves it. I shot it and was pretty pleased with it as well.
MXandSXracer21 12-24-2008, 10:48 PM The Beretta PX4 is a great gun also! I shot one recently and really liked how it felt. It shot well also.
O1SalsaX 12-29-2008, 08:07 AM Magazines get weak pretty fast if you keep them loaded all the time.

From what I've been reading that is actually a myth.
The loading and unloading of magazines will cause the springs to wear out not letting them sit while loaded.
A lot of people on AR15.com and Glocktalk have had mags sit loaded for 10+ years in their safes without issues.
Mag rebuild kits are cheap too. :)
If you've been having issues then it might be different with glocks.
My pre-ban mags are from 1994 or earlier and have the original springs with no feeding issues.
1:9 twist 01-02-2009, 09:18 AM The XD is an awesome pistol. All the features and ergonomics were right on the money an I am left handed.
I had the 9mm and 40s&w in the 4" and they shot like a dream. Despite the heavier recoil and overall heavier grain, I was more acurate with the 40s&W than I was with the 9mm. I have never shot the sub-compact but I know they have grip extensions which would allow you a full grip depending on your concealment requirements. The thing though is although the sub-compact is only a 3" it's still a thick piece.
houw bout THIS one:

rock river arms AR15....my brother just got one for a STEAL
at 200 yards he and i can both group a full clip within a 4" diameter....easiest gun i've ever shot...SO much nicer than my dad's .308(shoulder remover)
Drake 01-02-2009, 10:25 AM That's a nice grouping at 200 yds. I've got a .308 myself and I usually cry for mercy after about 15 rounds. I'll be upgrading it to a blackhawk UL sniper stock this spring. This is what it will look like when I'm done:
http://www.blackhawk.com//CatalogImages/18-220-IMG2.jpeg
My favorite assault rifle I used to have was this:
http://world.guns.ru/assault/fn_fnc1.jpg
At 100yds with iron-sights, this things was ridiculously accurate with very low recoil. Hated to get rid of it but I wanted a rifle to convert to sniper-duty. Wish I could get another but damn are they pricey!
Pvster 01-02-2009, 12:16 PM the xdm is awesome. just bought 1 myself in the .40 last month. pretty strong recoil for its size, but it barks power. i've yet to learn decent gun control on this specificially as it is my first personal handgun.
gixxersixxerman 01-02-2009, 10:02 PM ive done so much investagating springfield its ridiculous... and ive found alot of love for the XD's but some say its just a glock knock off... im still going with my decision to get it once i get my income tax
From what I've been reading that is actually a myth.
I'll argue that point. ;)
Glock - My first 2 mags were from the original shipment of .45's back in 91 and while they held up extraordinarily well versus my single stack .45 mags for colt they did eventually lose enough strength that they needed replacement. I had a 3rd "spare" high cap (13 rnd) mag from 93 that never got used and you could tell the difference when trying to push in the first round compared to the ones I normally carried.
After the assault weapons ban expired and we were once again able to get high cap magazines, I replaced those other 2 mags post haste. I still have the old mags and might do a spring replacement on them later.
AR/M16/M4 - I know from personal experience that you a) load no more than 28rnds in the 30rnd mag and b) never leave the mags loaded as the springs will lose their 'springiness' much faster. While on the DMZ in Korea we used to cycle out the pre-loaded mags that sat up at the observation points and even new mags (that we took out of the plastic wrap) would go bad < 60 days. Granted most would still feed, especially on select fire but a few just couldn't keep up with rapid fire and would jam.
Single stack .45 mags - ugh, good quality mags will stand up well. Cheap mags you might as well get used to using for malfunction drills.
It's really just basic physics, springs under load or even just because of age, will eventually lose their elasticity (or whatever its called) and just like a car eventually sags, so will our ammo magazines.
If there's one place I don't try to save a buck it's in a system that my life depends on.
matt_sr 01-03-2009, 08:29 AM I just picked up my second XD several weeks ago, I added a XD40 to my XD45. I actually considered the XD40M, but at almost $700, I didn't see any considerable upgrading from the standard 40 to warrent the expenditure. As to the spring fatigue problem, I always load the clips (on my loaded weapons), two rounds less than capacity. I use 20 round extended clips on my Beretta 92 and PX4 9mms and a 17 round extended clip on my PX4 40, so shorting them several rounds is no big deal.
Drake 01-03-2009, 08:46 AM ive done so much investagating springfield its ridiculous... and ive found alot of love for the XD's but some say its just a glock knock off... im still going with my decision to get it once i get my income tax
That's probably coming from the large Glock fan base but in my experience with my shooting style and needs, Glock didn't come close on anything for me. I've had Glock and hated every day of it. I didn't like the feel, the grip or the performance in any way. I'm not saying it had problems. It functioned great and never had a problem. It just wasn't the pistol for ME. It was too much work for me to be accurate with it. When the XD came out, I was in the market for another pistol since I got rid of my Glock and thought it was just a knockoff wannabe myself but after shooting it and grouping a full clip over the vitals, I paid in full on the spot. It just felt more natural in my hands.
aznboihoy03 01-03-2009, 08:52 AM hey thats a good lookin gun!
gixxersixxerman 01-04-2009, 03:04 PM this might be porn for some lmao

bipolar xterra 01-29-2009, 07:46 AM Man that was porn to me. Personally I carry federals in my XD. Spears in my Kimber and Powr balls in my glock. But lets not get into what a carry when at the range with my new socom II and my .308 LOL.
