Don't let this happens to you. All the valves were bent to hell! WOW! This was my girlfriend's Rodeo. Tensioner snapped on the timing belt. I'm guessing it was damaged when she got into an accident and the radiator hit the timing belt cover. Just an FYI about timing belts and interference fit engines!

Notice the scuffing of the 1st and 4th piston from the valves. You'll also notice the left side of the pistons actually has cut outs for the intake valves for clearance under normal operation. Nice compression ratio huh?

Check out the valves. They won't close!: :(

Check out the bent valves I got back!

She's running again! Man, I cranked it a while to get the oil pressure up and all the lifters filled. Then I fired her up and Holy crap she ran like shit! My heart sank. I thought "man, I have really F*&ked this up." I started thinking head gasket, camshafts, valve lifters...you know, all the expensive stuff! Man was I bummed. But I noticed it ran like it was missing. I had two wires crossed. Wheeeeeew! What a relief! Changed those wires and she was purring like a kitten!

I take it she was cruising down the highway when this happened? Those are beauties btw. Second worst I've seen yet.

This is what would've happened to your engine at speed Mike!

haha. Ouch. gott think the valves didnt punch holes in the pistons. that is usually the case at higher RPMs. for some reason I always cross wires too. No matter how many times I check I never get them right. I'm starting to get better with it though.

did you get a whole new head or have the old one machined?

Had the old one machined by a local shop. He did a nice job.

wow it looks nice! how much did it run you to get the head machined and all that? and about how much more would it to have them rebuild the engine?

Timing Belt
Serpentine belt
Water pump
Spark Plugs
Plug wires
2 idler pulleys
Timing belt tensioner
Serpentine tensioner
Valve cover gasket
Were around $700 believe it or not because I had to get them all through the dealer. Ridiculous!

Head redone cost me about $500 IIRC

Sorry to hear about the work but that pic of all the lined up, bent valves is awesome! You can make some cool shop art out of that sort of stuff.

I know 18436572 better than my own social sec # and I'm sure when I'm in the old folks home forgetting everything, I'll still know that bit of info.
