Anything is a step up over the stock TRA's. I don't know of anyone personally that run these but also haven't heard any negative feedback about them either. A note I will add that I was unaware of, if you get the Calmini TRA's, you will also need the Calmini CL because the TRA's are about an inch longer than stock. And if you get the Calmini CL, you will need the Calmini idler arm and brace because the stock idler arm will not work with the Calmini CL. Pretty much, you have to buy the $600 kit from Calmini so the 4x4parts TRA's are pretty much your only option.

Aloha,

The adjusters are pathetically weak on the xterras and especially if you are running larger tires, it's not a matter of if you bend them but when. For me, it was about 15 minutes on the trail before my passenger side TRA folded on me. After seeing how mine folded so easily, I highly recommend anyone running or wanting to run 33's and do ANY kind of offroading, that they either pick up a lot of spares or upgrade to beefier TRA's.

This is the first of two TRA's I folded on this particular trip:

You can order them from the link NoPipe posted in his first post.

i run them, havent had a problem yet...theyre pretty beefy

and for $70, the peace of mind that comes with it is well worth it

Hey Baf6, that was $70 for the pair right and not $70 a piece? Sometimes I get a little sketchy on AC's product descriptions. Not that I'm buying them but in case someone else is considering.

AC has it up for $77.50 so I guess thats the new price now.
Are those hard to install?

Drake

Nah they are really simple. I swapped out that damaged one on the trail in about 15 minutes BUT I highly recommend you get an alignment afterwards. Find a place that you can buy a lifetime alignment package. I wish I would have because it would save me a lot of money with all the mods and damage I do, I'm always having to get a friggin' alignment.

Hey, 5% - 10% can go long ways in saving money in the long run!
Somebody should do this for CX!

You should do a write up for this installation if you get those TRA's.
Just an suggestion.
More writeups are better for curious noobs, haha!

Upgraded centerlinks (hoohaa) etc. Help out big time with the tierod bending issue. The stock centerlink flexes back like and the tierod is allowed to bind and bend.

Quick question, i am going to buy these tra from AC, but i am also in need of new lock nuts because mine were slightly stripped when trying to loosen them (they were a *itch to loosen). So I was thinking of replacing them when I get new tra. Where can I find the correct lock nuts without buying a whole package (tierod assembly)?

I thought you already run with these after you bent one.. Do you just keep spares on hand?

I kept spares on hand back then. I've since upgraded to the AC heavy-duty ones. Actually it wasn't long after this thread that I bought mine. Now that those are beefed up though, I've destroyed the centerlink. lol You strengthen one link only to expose the next weakest link in the line. Thinking of picking up the HD Calmini kit by year's end. I'm sick of replacing balljoints and bushings every time I wheel.

I have a Total Chaos IAB but not an upgraded CL. When I went with my 33's, I folded both of my TRA's within 30 minutes on the trail. BUT... others need to keep in mind that I was on a rock slab that was bone dry so I was getting maximum traction. Zero slippage transfers the force up the "ladder" so to speak until it reaches a weak link which would be the tinker toy steering system.

I've considered just getting the CL and still am but neither Rockhumper nor Grassroots are replying to my emails and my steering is shot. I can't wait much longer. The wobble is chewing up my tires something awful.

Sorry Marc... I meant to reply yesterday and got busy at work and forgot. If you still have the stripped ones, go to a hardware store or metal fastener store (like Fastenal if you have one) and have them match it up. The locknuts are a standard size so it's not something specific to Nissan or anything like that. It shouldn't be a problem to find them. If they don't have them or you can't find them, at least get them to identify the nut and then you can order them from a company like McMaster Carr online. If McMaster doesn't have it... nobody has it. lol

Scratch the Calmini kit... just got a reply from Richard at Rockhumper and he'll have me a CL ready when I get back from Vegas in a couple of weeks. Weird how I just talked about no response and I get one. lol Great timing too because the wobble nearly got my ass killed on the way to work this morning.

If anyone is interested, here is the nut specifications for tie rod adjusters:

(2) right hand 14mm 1.5 pitch
(2) left hand 14mm 1.5 pitch

The right hand nuts are easy to find, but good luck finding the left hand...a regular hardware store will not carry these, not even a specialty hardware store. I got mine from a place called "Metric Multistandard Components Corp." in hawthorne NY. Only place that had them (without trying to find them online).
