Im trying to figure out what to do with my girlfriends xterra. Its a 2000 4x4.it has no spark. the battery keeps dying i replaced it. now it wont start and threw a check engine light for a camshaft position sensor code. I know the distributor must be replaces to fix the sensor. dose anyone know of a place on the web i could find out more info on how to replace it? and is there something i should check before i pull the distributor out?
I saw a few posts down that a guy was having the same problem after he replaced the distributor thats why i dont want to spend the money if its something else.

Something is probably out of whack if your getting a cam position sensor code. See if your getting power at the sensor. If you are getting power there then you know something is up. When you say it won't start do you mean it won't run? or it wont turn over? does it sound normal when it turns over or is it abnormally fast? How many miles does it have on it? and where are you from?

it cranks fine just wont turn over and run. It died mid dune trip it was idleing at camp and just quit we managed to get it running again and it died again and hasent started or ran sence. I live in tucson AZ. the stupid thing has only 87k miles on it and I have already replaced almost every sensor in it and the computer, the exhaust, air box and most of the suspention.the stupid thing wont run for more than a month without breaking something . I just need to get it running so I can sell it.
Last time she picks a car out! :(

X2. gotta be fuel related. spray some ether down the intake and try to start it. if it runs for a few second and dies out then you knnow its fuel related. change the fuel filter and have the dealer change teh sending unit.
