How can I get them to go 'back to black'
my boss at work says Mothers Back to Black ddint work on her Honda Elements which is basically the same material as the Xterra. Any suggestions? Its winter now so Im not too worried about it.

Mothers back to black works but only for a day or two. Turtle wax ice liquid wax works well also but wears off quick. I once read somewhere that black shoe polish works. The kind that comes in a bottle and has a sponge applicator on top. I never tried it myself but it might be worth a shot.
EDIT: ok, so its not actually shoe polish but here a link about the stuff.

found the best thing. posted is somewhere else but figured id post it in this thread if someone comes to it.
What I used was some tire shine and a soft squishy foam tire shine applicator thing. not the more firm ones but the cheap squishy ones.
Alrighty. What you do is apply the tire shine as evenly as possible and work your way around the truck. ONce you get all the parts that should be black done. Start from wherever on the truck you started and get a rag and gently rub the shine in so it looks consistent.
Voila. Works like a charm and lasts until it rains and what not. I tihnk it works really good. I used Meguiars liquid tire shine. not the foam stuff.
hope someone trys this and finds it a good idea

try using a benzene torch to partially remelt the surface of the plastic. try it first on some place that doesn't show to make sure the material is like the xterra rubber. you have to move fast over the rubber at a medium to low heat setting. this made my gray body plastic look like new. My truck is a bomber field truck that had baddly worn plastic and I didn't pay much for it.
Good luck
