bluex 11-15-2008, 12:13 PM lookin good bro

I'll see ya on Thurs @ Hooters
Steeze 11-15-2008, 01:28 PM Looks great man!

WOW
TN4x4Xterra 11-15-2008, 01:51 PM Wow man!
That looks freakin' AWESOME!!!!
Thats what I want mine to turn out to be when I accomplish my mod list!!!
Btw - Care to show pics of your CO2?
And you'll have to tell me how the Warn winch does for you!
tameroflions 11-15-2008, 02:32 PM looks awesome man! is this your DD?
DaveC 11-15-2008, 02:34 PM Thanks all.
Stevin, I can get you a shot of the CO2 set up when it stops pouring here. We've got a tornado watch now and winds gusting up to 45mph with a steady downpour...funnel clouds all over the place. I parked the X in front of the house where there are no trees to fall on it ;) ...figures right? lol....
Funny thing about me and winches. I've had WARN M8000s on my last two rigs, and never once used them...the only winching I've had to do is stretching and respooling the cable...so we'll see if I actually have to pull line with this one. Maybe at Rausch Creek PA on the 6th for the Northeast meet.
DaveC 11-15-2008, 02:35 PM looks awesome man! is this your DD?
Thanks man...aye, that it is. My last one was my daily driver too....I love wasting gas ;)
My wife has a 2000 VW Beetle; and I can use that for longer trips if I have to for work and school...but I probably won't. Which would you rather drive? An Xterra or a Beetle? lol.
bluex 11-15-2008, 02:47 PM Which would you rather drive? An Xterra or a Beetle? lol.
a yellow beetle w/ sunflower rims on it :)

you need to wheel w/ Rich more Dave...I've had to use my Winch 2 times to get him out :mocking:
DaveC 11-15-2008, 04:10 PM you need to wheel w/ Rich more Dave...I've had to use my Winch 2 times to get him out :mocking:
I've seen Rich wheel...I'm not into denting this truck up like my last Xterra :mocking:
But yes, he can give me a call on the CB when he gets stuck at Rausch Creek, and I'll break in the winch that way lol.
....and it's a Black Beetle with regular rims on it thank you very much ;)
It's still ghey.
tameroflions 11-15-2008, 08:35 PM It's still ghey.
haha, my room mate has an "electric blue" beetle
http://cdn.motors.co.uk/d/used-photos/huge/O/V/OV54GKK.jpg
..hes SO proud of that thing and keeps seeing stuff i talk about w/ cars and tries to apply them to his beetle but he has no idea what were talking about.
me and a friend were talking about bagged trucks weve seen and he was like "dont you like my bagged beetle?!" i just laughed at him, hes a tool
hes totally straight though.
DaveC 11-15-2008, 08:41 PM haha...that's too funny.
Electric Blue huh? He better have women with him at all hours doing nasty things to him in public just so people are absolutely sure he's not a friend of Dorothy ;)
Silver Dude 11-15-2008, 08:51 PM Looks dang good! A lot better looking in my opinion then body lifted X's. How bad do the 33's rub when offroad?
TN4x4Xterra 11-15-2008, 08:53 PM You mean to tell me your X doesn't have any body lifts on it?!?!?
bluex 11-15-2008, 08:58 PM what is wrong w/ body lifts on X? you can't even tell my X has a body lift on it. unless you look through the rear tire and can see the body lifted above the frame..other then you can't tell
DaveC 11-15-2008, 09:37 PM No body lift on my X. The 33s off road? I don't know. Haven't had it off road yet with them on. I actually have to mount them tomorrow. The tires in the pic are the 32x11.50s. Tomorrow I've got to install the 33s, my flares, and do some minor trimming behind the front tires. Other than that, I'll have a report on how they do after Dec 6th when I get back from Rausch Creek. I'm expecting no problems though.
Silver Dude 11-15-2008, 10:11 PM what is wrong w/ body lifts on X? you can't even tell my X has a body lift on it. unless you look through the rear tire and can see the body lifted above the frame..other then you can't tell
It's more so the visible frame down the sides and the way the front looks bulked and long like. I'm not really a huge fan of either lift but it's what we have to work with.
SL= rapidly wearing front end parts, BL= you see a lot more chassis.
Brett89 11-15-2008, 10:43 PM a yellow beetle w/ sunflower rims on it :)
my mom has that, no joke. haha not too bad with a turbo on it and a 5 speed
Nice looking X! love the stance.
DaveC 11-15-2008, 11:16 PM Thanks man....haha..yeah, those sunflower wheel covers are just so ridiculous.
The TurboS Beetles are freakin' fast as hell though. Had I been at the dealership the day my wife bought that Beetle...I would have made sure it was the Turbo model. At least then it would be fun for me to drive...otherwise, it's just a guy driving a Beetle down the street trying not to look gay ;)
DaveC 11-16-2008, 09:02 AM Finished up installing the laptop mount this morning. Still have to wrap the exposed piping, but it's done besides that:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount1.jpg
View from the driver's seat:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount2.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount3.jpg
I decided to mount it in the cupholder instead of mounting the flange on the passenger floorboard. There wasn't enough room down there, and the angles down by the seat bolts are not suitable. You can see the quick disconnect fitting on the flange. This allows me to remove the mount in about 5 seconds, and leaves behind only the flange. Good for prying eyes of people that like to steal things out of cars ;)
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount4.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount5.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/vaxcevents/laptopmount6.jpg
Just have to cover the pipe today and do some final tightening of the fittings. I've taken it out for a test drive already and it's as solid as can be. A little give, but that's good so it won't end up ripping anything out of the center console. I installed a piece of flatstock steel under the center console to give the flange mount support from the underside.
Overall I'm happy with how it came out. Not bad for less than $30 in parts from Lowe's and some plexiglass.
Drake 11-16-2008, 09:06 AM Man that whole X just looks friggin' awesome inside and out! Good job bro!
DaveC 11-16-2008, 09:11 AM Thanks man. When I got done cleaning out the inside yesterday, I was like "damn, this thing is showroom new!". lol. The previous owner basically put the seat covers on and the rubber mats in when he drove it off the lot in '04...so everything underneath was in pristine condition.
Screed 11-16-2008, 09:41 AM Nice! You have alot of work into that X. Nice handy work with the laptop mount also.
DaveC 11-16-2008, 09:52 AM Thanks! I'm not done with stuff yet...just aren't enough hours in the day ;)
kausion 11-16-2008, 10:24 AM DAMN....Nice ride. Talk about go big or go home!
soccerbrace 11-16-2008, 11:06 AM Thanks! I'm not done with stuff yet...just aren't enough hours in the day ;)
Amen to that! My fiancee and I were saying yesterday that we wish that there were more like 30 hours in a day.
Dave, your rig is looking nice man! I see one problem with it though....too clean!!!! Let's see some trail damage here soon! It is great to have you as part of CX.
DaveC 11-16-2008, 11:22 AM lol...thanks guys.
Damage I'm not too fond of anymore, but I'll take dirt and some scratches with a smattering of mud thrown in ;)
I had enough damage on my last Xterra to last about 10 Xterras :mocking: I'm sure I'll have some decent pics at the NorthEast trail ride at Rausch Creek in a couple of weeks.
But thanks James...it's great being a part of this community. A far cry from that dreaded XOC site...arguably the best Xterra site I've been on.
bluex 11-16-2008, 11:25 AM I second that ...this site/club is great love it!!!
your X does need some scratches and some minor dents in it...just way to clean. i think you should back into a tree up @ RC and just get it over with :mocking:
silverbullet 11-16-2008, 11:31 AM arguably the best Xterra site I've been on.
X3
As for pics... don't worry about that. i'm camera happy. i took just shy of 300 last time with 3 rigs. Gonna go get a 4 gig SD card before the run to go along with my 2 gig. unfortunately I wont have my cool little gadget unless I come into some money between now and then.
DaveC 11-16-2008, 01:27 PM Coolness about the pictures...that gadget would have been too cool though.
Jason, you know I can never miss an opportunity to back into a tree :mocking:
silverbullet 11-16-2008, 01:29 PM I'm gonna try to get it. Chances look small though.
DaveC 11-16-2008, 02:23 PM Well hey, if you can you can...if not, not a big deal. I'm sure there will be plenty of pics either way from everyone that's going to be there.
I have to dig out my digi-cam...I can't get away with using my crappy cell phone camera for Rausch Creek stuff.
silverbullet 11-16-2008, 05:45 PM I'm thinking about asking to borrow the GF's parents video camera. Its the shit. I think it's Hd with a 60 G hard drive so I could get alot of footage with that if they let me
TN4x4Xterra 11-16-2008, 05:53 PM For those that are attending the RC....find a way to get stuck so Dave can use his never-been-used winch! I want a report of how that winch goes cuz thats on my mod list after shrock bumper! hahaha!

well if our buddy Rich is going to be there then Dave will have plenty of chances to use his winch w/ him Rich always wants to try something w/ his Pathy:mocking:
DaveC 11-16-2008, 06:01 PM lol...Jason makes a good point. Rich will find a way to wedge himself into something...whether it be a mud hole, a couple of trees, or between a couple of boulders.
I'll keep taunting him until he does it...then I can use it!!! lol.

silverbullet 11-16-2008, 06:02 PM I wanna check out that amsteel line. I'm seriously considering the switch when I get the money to swap to a new winch. unless I can repair my current one.
TN I'd do the winch and bumper at the same time. It makes it ALOT easier than mounting the bumper and then taking it off to put the winch on.

I didn't think about that one....your right. I guess I'd be better off investing on a winch and bumper at the same time rather than the front and rear bumpers. Thanks for the heads up.
bluex 11-16-2008, 06:19 PM you just need to bench press the winch up into your bumper..just need to have 2 people around not that big of a problem.
silverbullet 11-16-2008, 06:24 PM True it might be different for the Shrock. I didnt thin about that. I'm weak though so I wouldnt be able to hold my winch up like that.
DaveC 11-16-2008, 07:35 PM The Amsteel line is good stuff. It drops a good 50 pounds off the front end. Every bit helps when it comes to keeping your front end from wearing out.
DaveC 11-19-2008, 06:25 AM Here are the pics of the 33s that I took off my 88 Toyota and put on the Xterra Monday...also, the result of a non-sagging Add a Leaf install. These are 33x10.50x15s on 15x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing.

silverbullet 11-19-2008, 12:16 PM Are those the KC Slimlights or the Daylighters on the shrock?
vandebogart 11-19-2008, 12:47 PM Looks good Dave!
DaveC 11-19-2008, 01:21 PM Thanks guys. Those are the Daylighters on the Shrock. I'm getting 4 more this weekend to throw on the roof light bar that came with the Xterra. Unfortunately, the previous owner took off the 4 Daylighters that were already up there to put them on his new JK. It's all good...I got them used for $75, so I can't complain too much.
bluex 11-19-2008, 05:24 PM where did you get those 4 lights for $75 from Dave?
I am not ready to slap some lights on my X just yet...next spring or summer I might
DaveC 11-19-2008, 05:35 PM I'm getting them from Paul (vaPathy) over on our site. He didn't really advertise them, but knew I was looking for some; so he PMd me over there and told me he'd sell his if I wanted them.
bluex 11-19-2008, 05:37 PM luck bastard good find!! :)
DaveC 11-19-2008, 05:41 PM Yeah, it was a great price and saved me a bit of coin. After all, I'm about dead broke after getting that cashier's check to Clay this past weekend ;) Luckily I already set aside money for Rausch Creek weekend Dec 6th...or else my wife would shoot me in my sleep lol.

well you are worth more dead then alive so I can see Kate doing that to get back at ya :)
DaveC 11-19-2008, 05:46 PM Haha...I think that may be a bit too harsh for even her ;)
bluex 11-19-2008, 05:49 PM true....I've meet her I don't think she could pull something like off...she is too sweet
JaXTerra 11-20-2008, 08:56 AM Nice X Dave.
DaveC 11-20-2008, 11:08 AM Thanks man.
soccerbrace 11-21-2008, 04:32 PM Dave! Your X is looking nice man!!!! What are your thoughts on Body lifts?
DaveC 11-21-2008, 04:41 PM Thanks James. I'm not opposed to body lifts. Had a 2" bl on my last X with the 3" sl...but I'm probably not going to go that route with this one....just yet. Down the road, if I decide to go with the Calmini crawler gears again, I'll probably do the 2" bl and slap some 35s on it and treat it like a red headed step child ;) But, that's down the road.
soccerbrace 11-21-2008, 04:45 PM Cool. I am undecided about how I feel. I am going to SAS it one day but a BL is a big deal when it comes to that ya know?
DaveC 11-21-2008, 05:12 PM Well, besides the center of gravity issue, I think body lifts get a bad rap. My old X handled just fine with the 3+2 lift...if I had the money at this point, I'd order the crawler gears, the 2" body lift and a set of 35" tires tomorrow and do it all again. Alas, I have to wait a little while before making any of those decisions. Part of me wants to keep it as it is, and part of me wants to make it just like my black one...we'll see ;)
But yes, I think for a SAS and wanting to run the biggest tires you can; a body lift is a smart move in addition to that solid axle. Sure, it handles very different, but it's nothing to adjust to. The truck will tell you what it likes and what it doesn't like on the trail with the higher center of gravity pretty quick ;)
DaveC 12-02-2008, 12:51 PM A few more updated shots I've taken in the last day or so...

DaveC 12-02-2008, 01:32 PM Thanks man.
silverbullet 12-02-2008, 01:36 PM needs some more stickers! lol
DaveC 12-02-2008, 01:43 PM lol....you know...I had TONS of stickers on my black Xterra...so much so that I could barely see out the windows....I've kind of stayed away from that with this one...but hell, it may change, we'll see ;)
silverbullet 12-02-2008, 01:44 PM wheres your club X sticker? I thought you had one.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 01:45 PM I've got a couple...one on the rear crossbar on the roof rack (red one), and one on the roof fairing. You know I wouldn't rock the X without representing the CX!!!!! :)
silverbullet 12-02-2008, 01:50 PM I thought you had them. I just couldnt see any from the angles the new pics are taken.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 01:53 PM Yeah man, they're still there ;)
Bklyn.X 12-02-2008, 02:17 PM Man that’s a great looking truck. I promise I’m going to make an extra effort to go with you guys on the next Rausch run that you plan (after the 6th) so I can see that monster up close. I did not use my winch to get myself unstuck for the first few years I had it, just to pull others out. Lately I find I need it for myself almost every time out. A buddy told me that I’m finally driving on real man size trails instead of glorified driveways. I think my driving skills have just gotten worse with age.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 02:19 PM Thanks Tom! Sorry you can't make it out to this one. I'm not sure when I'll be up there again between then and July...but I'm definitely going to be there for ECXC '09 in July...so worst case we can wheel together then!
TN4x4Xterra 12-02-2008, 02:19 PM just curious....
Why you got the winch hook attached to the bumper tubing instead of the D-shackles?
DaveC 12-02-2008, 02:56 PM With the synth. line, it's always a better idea to have that sleeve out and exposed that covers the line...it keeps it from wearing down the synth. line when it's resting against the fairlead.
For now I have it like that because I need to respool it anyways, and when I do I'll move the sleeve down to the end so that I don't have to wrap it up there just to expose that green sleeve you see. It is actually still attached to the d-ring though and not the bumper tubing...it's only wrapped around that tubing once...the d-ring is just pointing up in that pic, so it's hard to see.
TN4x4Xterra 12-02-2008, 02:58 PM Don't respool it til after the trip!
I wanna see it put into use! hahaha!
DaveC 12-02-2008, 03:00 PM Don't respool it til after the trip!
I wanna see it put into use! hahaha!
lol...that was the plan ;)
If our buddy Rich doesn't get stuck, we'll use it on yours and just pull you across the parking lot lol :mocking:
Wait, are you coming out for this trip? Or do you just want to see pics of it in use?
TN4x4Xterra 12-02-2008, 03:05 PM lol...that was the plan ;)

I think that'd be quite an attention getter if I needed to be winched across the parking lot! lol
Actually, I would so wish to be up there with you guys but as of right now, just pics or just your status report of how you think it performed is pretty much all I want to know that if you ever put it into use.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 03:18 PM lol....you got it man...we'll get something winched this weekend
bluex 12-02-2008, 03:30 PM good looking X Dave...not as nice as mine but it's getting there :)
DaveC 12-02-2008, 03:36 PM Ha!
Yours won't be nice until you finally man up and put some damn 35s on it. :)
bluex 12-02-2008, 03:38 PM Ha!
Yours won't be nice until you finally man up and put some damn 35s on it. :)
no 35's on mine
if I ever SAS mine then I will slap some 35's on it. after seeing all the stuff you replaced on your Black X...no thank you. I'll stick w/ my 33's M/Ts and get a rear locker for it.
bluex 12-02-2008, 03:45 PM so are we going to hit that snakebite trail Dan was talking about? what was the one picture of Beaters rig of? We should all try that trail...the 4 of us from VA4x4 should have no problem w/ it.
Bklyn.X 12-02-2008, 04:43 PM so are we going to hit that snakebite trail Dan was talking about? what was the one picture of Beaters rig of? We should all try that trail...the 4 of us from VA4x4 should have no problem w/ it.
Ohhh, Snakebite is a lot of fun but it’s the only trail on the south that a moded X can have any fun on and it’s all the way on the far end. Make sure you give yourself enough time to get through and then make your way back; maybe in the morning, first thing. You do not want to be stuck in there at the end of the day. There’s a nice bowl in the middle (that you can bypass) I did in the warm weather that took me a few attempts to get out of (there’s a video somewhere). Make sure you walk the last part, after the bailout, the black part. If it slick I wouldn’t do it, there’s a part in there that you could get real F’d up on.
13 on the west is my favorite trail. The slicker it is the harder it is. If you want to be crazy run it backwards. It’s tough but I think you guys could do it and have a good time. Armor and 33’s are a must, maybe first trail after lunch then if you have time there are a lot of fun blues on the west to fill up the rest of your day.
Man I am so jealous.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 05:17 PM Thanks for that info Tom! That does sound like a lot of fun
Jason, that trail you saw in the picture is Yellow Jacket. Helps to have a locker, but it's not impossible without one I suppose...just go at it and you'll be fine...trust me :mocking:
Frackin killer X, great job.
No idea how I missed this thread before today.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:06 PM Thanks!
bluex 12-02-2008, 06:10 PM well we will see how everybody else wants to do. I do want to do something that is a tad more interesting just nothing to crazy. what ever trail that is Dave you gotta do it w/ me :)
after I get my rear locker installed this spring i will have to try some more interesting trails
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:13 PM We can definitely do Snakebite if there's time and daylight left. I don't have a problem with that...even without skids...a good spot can get me through it.
You and me both on the rear locker...but I've gotta get skids first (January I'm ordering them). After that, I should have an ARB rear locker installed in this thing by May/June....just in time for ECXC!!! :)
bluex 12-02-2008, 06:20 PM that is about the same time I will be getting my rear locker. Like I have told you in the past...may be if we get them at the same time @ the same shop we could get a discount from them.
Are you getting your Skid Row skid plates through AC?
I noticed on our super secret trail run last Saturday that you were slipping a lot more then I was. Now was it cause I have M/Ts and you just have A/Ts. Does your X have a LSD out back? I was in 4 LO in 1st gear
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:22 PM I was just in 4hi for that trip and in regular old "D". I don't have the LSD. But yeah, for some of that stuff the MTs help out a lot more.
I hear ya on the locker thing...maybe that could work. I'll be getting the Skid Row ones again more than likely, yes...and through AC if I do.
bluex 12-02-2008, 06:25 PM I was just in 4hi for that trip and in regular old "D". I don't have the LSD. But yeah, for some of that stuff the MTs help out a lot more.

OOO OK I see well that explains why you were slipping & sliding while I was not :)
well we can talk about the locker install in Apr or May and figure it out then plenty of time..
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:25 PM Cool.
Yeah, there are times when I've done SC in 2wd for most of it ;) lol.
bluex 12-02-2008, 06:28 PM Cool.
Yeah, there are times when I've done SC in 2wd for most of it ;) lol.
I will have to try that next time.
We need to set up a snow wheelin' trip for VA4x4 this winter.
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:36 PM First we need to get some real snow in VA. I think we may actually get it this year though...at least out in the mountains.
I have a feeling we'll run into some this weekend, along with some ice at RC though.
TN4x4Xterra 12-02-2008, 06:38 PM Just out of curiosity.
How far is RC from you VA boys?
vandebogart 12-02-2008, 06:41 PM I wana do some snow wheeling!
lol
TN4x4Xterra 12-02-2008, 06:43 PM lol you guys suck!
I want snow down here!
It rarely ever snows here nowadays except in Johnson City which isn't very far from VA/TN line
bluex 12-02-2008, 06:45 PM Just out of curiosity.
How far is RC from you VA boys?
3 to 3.5 hours from my house
for Dave more like 5 or 6 hours
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:52 PM Yeah, you just can't use I-95. Not unless you like to sit in traffic. I have to take 64 West over to 81 North, then take that all the way to Pine Grove. If I took 95, I'd be sitting around the D.C. metro area for about 3 hours. If it was smooth sailing up 95 and then cutting over to 81 from there in PA, it's about 4 or 4.5 hours for me from here. Never going to happen though.
DaveC 12-07-2008, 05:37 PM Here are the latest trail pics from our weekend at the Northeast Club Xterra trail ride at Rausch Creek-Pennsylvania:
Thanks for Ian (silverbullet) for the great pics!

bluex 12-07-2008, 05:39 PM loos good Dave. I wish we took pictures from Trail 13A
DaveC 12-07-2008, 05:51 PM Thanks. Yeah, what the hell is up with that!!?!??!?!!? I'm starting to think you guys never ran it ,and just said you did :mocking:
vandebogart 12-07-2008, 05:57 PM Kick ass pics! lol
bluex 12-07-2008, 06:01 PM Thanks. Yeah, what the hell is up with that!!?!??!?!!? I'm starting to think you guys never ran it ,and just said you did :mocking:
hahahah you guys should of been there. you want to see suspension flex you should of seen my Alcan springs flex on that rock garden.
Dave you are going to run that trail w/ me either at VA4x4 Spring run or at ECXC. so much more fun :) just love hear the rocks smack against my skid plates
DaveC 12-07-2008, 06:08 PM Kick ass pics! lol
I promise this is the only forum I'll post them on :mocking:
Yeah Jason, I have no problem doing blue/black trails with skids...I just wasn't going to risk the t-case or the oil pan this time out. I'm fine with the blue trails we did earlier in the day; because the rocks weren't that big...it was still fun.
...and you want to see Alcan Spring flex Jason? On my old X on the black trails at Crozet...Here you go ;)
http://www.vaxc.org/gallery/d/27711-1/Crozet+3.jpg
See, you need to just put 35" MTs on that rig of yours...with 4.75" backspacing they tuck up into the wheel wells quite nicely and don't kill any flex rubbing on those pesky body panels lol. Well, with just a tiny bit of trimming...but hey, it's just sheetmetal...you can't take it with you.
bluex 12-07-2008, 06:20 PM I am sorry to say Dave..no 35's will be going this rig
just ask JD he was very impressed on well my springs flexed yesterday.
I might have to do some trimming on my front some more.
if some one would of taken pictures I could of shown all of you guys how a Alcan Suspension should flex :)
i hear you on running that Trail 13A w/out skid plates..I had rocks pounding off of mine the entire trail. I couldn't imagine trying to run that trail w/out skid plates like Rich does.
DaveC 12-07-2008, 06:27 PM Well, I know how well Alcan Springs flex, so you don't have to convince me....but you should try to convince people in your own thread with that ;)
I still don't believe you ran that trail then if you don't have any pictures. I don't believe you have Alcan Springs either, as I have yet to see this "awesome flex" you keep talking about, but fail to produce any evidence. Rubbish!!!!!! lol :mocking:
bluex 12-07-2008, 06:32 PM hahahah well when you have your rig ready..we will do that trail together and you can see my "awesome flex" :) I'll take pictures so I can show everybody
DaveC 12-07-2008, 06:33 PM No you won't...you'll forget your camera again and I won't verify the "alleged tale" to anyone lol
...but I'll be sure to mention that I made it through just fine, and will have plenty of pics of my rig....your rig will somehow mysteriously not be in any of my shots :mocking:
DaveC 01-17-2009, 08:52 AM Updated with some new shots of new stuff in the first post (skids, lights, DR rims, etc..)
vandebogart 01-17-2009, 09:07 AM Lookin' good Dave!
i like those rims :)
DaveC 01-17-2009, 09:40 AM Thanks brotha!

Looks good though! ;)
DaveC 02-17-2009, 03:17 PM Thanks guys.
bluex 02-17-2009, 03:17 PM looks good Bro...I need to get me some of those. couple more months & i'll have some :mocking:
now u just need a 2" BL & a rear locker and you will be almost as cool as me :)
DaveC 02-17-2009, 03:22 PM Oh shit, here we go again.
Thanks, I think. lol.
Yeah, Stevin I know it's hard to tell the difference between BFG ATs and Goodyear MT/Rs right? COME ON MAN!!!! That stuff you're smoking...it rots your brain..but if you have any left I need some because it must be some good chit!
bluex 02-17-2009, 03:24 PM so r we hitting SC this Sunday Dood??
I like it when it is only a few of us....
DaveC 02-17-2009, 03:28 PM Yeah man, that looks pretty good to do for me this Sunday. I'll know definitely by Friday though...I don't see why not at this point. So let's just plan on it and we'll work out a time by Saturday evening at the latest.
I gotta get off road..even if it is just SC.
bluex 02-17-2009, 03:30 PM Oh shit, here we go again.
Thanks, I think. lol.

well you know you are going to get those 2 mods on your X anyways :)

yea man..I hear ya...we will have to wait till April to do some better trails up in RC
TN4x4Xterra 02-17-2009, 03:46 PM looks good Bro...I need to get me some of those. couple more months & i'll have some :mocking:
now u just need a 2" BL & a rear locker and you will be almost as cool as me :)
And be as cool as me also too! ;)
DaveC 02-17-2009, 04:29 PM And be as cool as me also too! ;)
also too...too, as well?
lol.
vandebogart 02-17-2009, 08:14 PM Hot damn that looks good!!
DaveC 02-17-2009, 08:54 PM Thanks Shaun!
Now buy my Desert Runner wheels and BFG ATs! :mocking: You know you need them! lol.
hodge-x 02-17-2009, 10:32 PM lookin tasty man!!! i am jealous!!! cant wait to start working again and tend to my modding addiction......any clearance issues with the new rubbers
DaveC 02-17-2009, 10:41 PM Thanks man. Yeah, some pretty hefty rubbing behind the front wheels...nothing a little more trimming this weekend won't fix though ;) Ask anyone that knows me; I do love me some sheet metal trimming lol.
I think a good inch off the backside should just about take care of it.
hodge-x 02-17-2009, 11:00 PM lol i hear you on that...i think if you can swing a write up on it if time allows that would be the shizz!! i know there are a bunch of people who ask about trimming (i am included)....i really like the look of the 3 in sl and 33 combo and dont wanna bl it.....just my beter judgement has me being cautious for once since i actually like my x alot and kinda wanna cut it correctly...unlike my poor xjs that got the five min sawzall deal lol..... cuttin is part of the game....but doin it right the first time is pretty key, which is why i ask lol....judging by the caliber of rigs you have churned out i bet you have some good ideas up yo sleeves...i bet it could be a sticky...i was on xoc looking but i am afraid to ask lol..they be nasty! not here tho everyone on here rocks
bluex 02-18-2009, 06:07 AM The sawzall is your friend Dave...I had a blast cutting mine up :)
DaveC 02-18-2009, 11:46 AM lol i hear you on that...i think if you can swing a write up on it if time allows that would be the shizz!! i know there are a bunch of people who ask about trimming (i am included)....i really like the look of the 3 in sl and 33 combo and dont wanna bl it.....just my beter judgement has me being cautious for once since i actually like my x alot and kinda wanna cut it correctly...unlike my poor xjs that got the five min sawzall deal lol..... cuttin is part of the game....but doin it right the first time is pretty key, which is why i ask lol....judging by the caliber of rigs you have churned out i bet you have some good ideas up yo sleeves...i bet it could be a sticky...i was on xoc looking but i am afraid to ask lol..they be nasty! not here tho everyone on here rocks
If it's not raining this Saturday I'll probably be cutting some sheet metal and hammering stuff back..have to do some other little stuff before a trail ride on Sunday. I'll see if I can get some pics and give a simple write up on the trimming for those that like to see that stuff.
Jason, screw that sawzall shit....an angle grinder with a metal cutting wheel and some finesse has always worked better for me....for me it gives more control than a sawzall....it's like an art to get it right, and it's more challenging. It all works out fine ;)
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 11:50 AM your awesome!! ya nothing extensive necessary just show the jist of actual amount you will be removing..... man i wish there were more trails up here in jersey!
DaveC 02-18-2009, 11:54 AM No problem man..I'll snap some shots of what I actually trimmed off, and some shots before to show exactly where the tires were rubbing so people can get the idea of what needs to be done.
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 12:00 PM perfecto! how do you like your current setup?
DaveC 02-18-2009, 12:04 PM I like it...there's always room for improvement though ;)
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 12:10 PM ha ha do i sense changes in the near future
DaveC 02-18-2009, 12:15 PM lol...there are ALWAYS changes going on with my rigs. I think though, that the biggest ones in the near future are probably going to be a body lift and an ARB rear locker. Both happening more than likely in the next 3 or 4 months. Other than that, I'm just going to start wheeling the piss out of it this Spring and Summer...time to dent it and scratch it up! :)
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 01:09 PM ha ha of course... i feel the same way......now here is a question....i know alot of guys toss on a bl....if your clearing your tires and everything with some trimming...is there any specific reason? i have always been kinda eh about bl...idk why just is it preference of is there a certain reason
DaveC 02-18-2009, 01:27 PM You're right about that. If you trim with the tires you have on, and there are no more issues with rubbing when wheeling; then there's no reason to put a body lift on. If I did it for any reasons, it would be to give me some more room for flex in the rear when I get the Alcans and longer travel shocks on in a few weeks so I'm not always hitting the rear fenders (of course, wheels with different backspacing would cure that problem as well). Other than that, it's always the best solution to go with as little lift as possible, and the largest tire possible to keep you center of gravity low, and use trimming to make it work. So we'll see. I'm going to trim this Saturday, take it wheeling on Sunday, then see if there are still problems; and go from there. If I need to do a body lift, I don't have a problem with it...I've had an Xterra with a 3+2 lift before and it was easy enough to get through trails, off camber spots, etc..none of it really felt unsafe or unnecessary to me.
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 01:58 PM ya i remember seeing that black x...it was nasty..but so is the one now....to each his own i guess....i am totally into cutting the wazoo outa my rigs lol...it adds charcter ha ha...sorry for all the questions but i have another..mostly opinion on this but i currently have a 5spd...my mom has the same year x...auto....now seeing as you have owned both which do you feel was more suited towards wheeling at say rausch creek since thats where i plan to mostly go? i am comfortable with stick on and off road no problem....but i liked the constant control of auto off road...just curious for some outside input...i can have pretty much either one.....its all down to which one i start modding..idk this is prety much my only hiccup in deciding so far
DaveC 02-18-2009, 02:05 PM I like the auto for off roading at places like Rausch. Now that I've had both, the auto is much easier and allows me to focus more on the actual lines I'm taking rather than worrying whether or not I'm going to burn out another clutch ;)
bluex 02-18-2009, 02:12 PM I would agree Dave..I have not wheeled a 5-speed...but wheelin' w/ an Auto is easier...I can focus more on other stuff....
I can't wait until we both get back up to Rausch...we are going to have some fun for sure :)
When we go up for our Spring Event in June & also for ECXC..we should explore more...there are so many more trails that both of our rigs can take on.
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 02:14 PM ya thats my feeling...did you burn up alot of clutches? what kind were you running...sorry about all the ?s i can delete them from the thread once we are done lol....by the way thanks a ton for all the help!!!!
DaveC 02-18-2009, 02:16 PM Stock clutches in the black X. Burned up two. One soon after I bought it, and one soon before I sold it ;) I don't mind answering questions...it's not a problem.
..and I agree Jason; there's so much to see and wheel at Rausch, we haven't really seen a lot of it yet. We'll definitely have to explore more at the Spring Event this year.
hodge-x 02-18-2009, 02:21 PM thanks for all the info man...now i gotta get my ma's x up to spped and sweet talk it into my hands!!! gym time for me ill catch ya later!! thanks again man!!!
Bluegrassen 02-18-2009, 03:38 PM That one bad A$$ X you got there Dave.
DaveC 02-18-2009, 04:02 PM Thanks man, I appreciate it!
greentennx 02-18-2009, 06:28 PM That is one sweet rig.
DaveC 02-18-2009, 07:13 PM Thanks! :)
bluex 02-19-2009, 06:23 AM damn that is a sweet looking X
WOW!!!!
DaveC 02-19-2009, 06:54 AM Sarcasm is a stinky cologne Jason.
bluex 02-19-2009, 08:20 AM what?? you do have a great looking X :mocking:
we will need to take some pictures of our 2 Xterras next to each other
DaveC 02-19-2009, 10:13 AM You're feeling pretty saucy today aren't you?

Lookin good Dave.
DaveC 02-19-2009, 10:24 AM haha...thanks Kev. I know, it's hard to navigate through all of this stuff sometimes ;)
DaveC 03-26-2009, 09:29 PM Updated the first post with some new shots. The first 3 pics show the X in its most current state. Those were taken out at Flagpole trail in the George Washington Nat'l Forest outside Harrisonburg, VA. We did a multi club trail cleanup last weekend...had about 4 or 5 Virginia/Md/N.C. clubs show up and picked up trash all day Saturday. A good cause to help keep our trails open.
We had tons of trash at the drop off point...bags of garbage, couches, chairs, TVs, and yes...even a transmission!
Bklyn.X 03-27-2009, 08:54 AM Truck looks great!
DaveC 03-27-2009, 09:31 AM Thanks Tom!
Bklyn.X 03-27-2009, 09:43 AM It’s funny to me how my truck stands out when I’m driving around but how it looks similar to all the other moded silver Xterras when I look on the boards. We’ve got to get them all together at a run (maybe ECXC) and take a picture.
It’s a good thing we knew when we bought them that not only are the silver Xterras the best looking Xterras but are also the most powerful and strongest of all the Xterras.
DaveC 03-27-2009, 09:49 AM lol...well, that may be...but my Xterra is Granite :mocking:
MidWest_Surfer 03-27-2009, 09:59 AM beg to differ lol though i hated the solar yellow when i first got it, it has grown on me and it stands out when im driving around and next to another x
lol solar yellow xterras are way faster than any other x too
Bklyn.X 03-27-2009, 09:59 AM Crap, sorry you guys are out of the picture.
DaveC 03-27-2009, 10:28 AM lol....that's cool Tom :mocking:
You guys are just denying the fact that Granite is, indeed, the only color Xterra they should have made ;)
REKER 03-27-2009, 10:49 AM AWESOME truck! I thought those mountains looked familiar and then I noticed are from VA, too. I spend alot of time in those mountains, however, never been to GWNF.
Stickle 03-27-2009, 11:12 AM lol....that's cool Tom :mocking:
You guys are just denying the fact that Granite is, indeed, the only color Xterra they should have made ;)
AGREED!
also, do you like the hurculiner the way you did it?
Looks great tho
vandebogart 03-27-2009, 11:58 AM Looks good Dave!
DaveC 04-04-2009, 06:46 PM Thanks guys. I love the way the Herc turned out. For those that have known me for a while; they know that Herculiner has a hard time staying off any of my rigs :mocking:
I'm happy with it. I always try to do different things with Herculiner on all of my rigs. Ironically; the rig I owned that needed it the most (the 2003 black X that I had), never received such treatment lol....and it really could have used a good Herc job to hide some ill placed body damage ;)
lol....that's cool Tom :mocking:
You guys are just denying the fact that Granite is, indeed, the only color Xterra they should have made ;)
HEAR HEAR!!
Althought mine is called Graphite Metallic?? But it looks the same.
TremorX 04-05-2009, 07:02 PM Totally agreed. I think Granite and Black look the best on the round-light models. I prefer Solar Yellow and Silver on the square-light ones.
For the second gens I prefer...a cardboard cutout taped to the body that makes it look like a first gen :D
DaveC 04-26-2009, 05:59 PM Added some wheeling pics in the first post from this past weekend's trip to Rausch Creek, PA.
Keyz18 04-26-2009, 06:06 PM Just saw the pics...awesome shots!
You definitely have a solid rig!
TN4x4Xterra 04-26-2009, 06:18 PM Where's the trail damage/carnage report!?!? :mocking:
DaveC 04-26-2009, 06:21 PM Thanks!
I think I put my trail damage report in the original Rausch Creek 4/25/09 thread in the Northeast forum. I'm so worn out from this weekend I just can't remember.
Long story short:
Severely battered Skid plates from front to back
Stuck in 4lo because of the tcase skid plate being jammed up into the tcase (but that's fixed now)
Many scratches (including all the way up on the snorkel head from leaning the truck into a tree ;) ).
Bent u bolts that need to be cut off and replaced
A fubar'd alignment that's getting fixed this week.
I think that about covers it for my rig ;)
silver ghost xterra 04-26-2009, 06:39 PM nice looking X bro,i like it much
DaveC 04-26-2009, 06:48 PM Thanks dude!
silverbullet 04-26-2009, 06:51 PM Looks good Dave. If I can get skids by June Maybe I'll try 13 with you guys next time and if I'm not leading a group either.
TN4x4Xterra 04-26-2009, 07:04 PM This calls for pics of your "Severely beaten skidplates"!
DaveC 04-26-2009, 09:14 PM I hope you can Ian...although for our Spring Event the first weekend of June; I probably won't be doing the trails like 13 again...I'll have the wife and kids with me; and one of our kids is only 20 months old. Can't really toss her around the inside of the truck like that ;)
But yeah man, I hope you can make it out.
You've got to try and make it out too Stevin...June 5th - 7th. Gonna be a blast!
I can get pics of the skids tomorrow if I have time after work and it's not raining or anything.
From the front to the back it looks like I was attacked by some wild animal underneath with its claws out gouging the skids all the way down :mocking: That's what I love about trails like that. From the top side you may not get any damage...but underneath it looks like a bomb went off lol.
