so i finally was able to finish the new box for my sub today. i really like the idea of the stealth box that jl sells, but didn't want to shell out the cash for one, so i figured i'd just build my own. here's what i came up with-

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090030.jpg

the bungee cords are temporary until i figure out a better way to secure it in there. if anyone has the jl box, please let me know how it is secured in the vehicle.

i've got one 10" kenwood sub in there, it's old, but it still works just fine. the amp is under my driver's seat. i ran the speaker wire under the carpet along the entire truck, then out through these nice little vents that nissan was so kind to put in for me.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090029.jpg

doesn't take up too much space on the side, and allows me not to have to take the stereo out every time i've got something big to put in the cargo area and need the seats down.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090031.jpg

here is the other project that i finally finished today. i've got my conceal carry permit, and a lot of times i wind up going somewhere that i can't carry into. i don't like the idea of having the gun sitting in the x, i wanted something secure to put it in. there are some companies that make custom consoles with lock boxes, but alas, not for nissan. so, again, time to do some modding.

i bought one of those drawer safes (got it at wally world for about 30 bucks)...not the most secure in the world, but it will do for the x. it has a keypad entry that you can make your own code for, as well as a manual key should you forget your code or the batteries die.

next i modified the tub under the floor in the back of the x, as well as the lid, to allow for clearance. you can see where it has been cut in the pictures.

here's the final result-

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090033.jpg

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090034.jpg

and with the floor in place....can't even tell it's there. it's bolted through the floor of the x with some grade 8 bolts as well, so it's not going anywhere without a fight.

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/xterra/PB090032.jpg

i had to remove one of the support bars for the floor panel, but the weight sits on the safe now, so it's still very sturdy. plus, if i am going to have something really heavy in there, the seats will be down, and the weight will be distributed evenly across the floor.....or, i'll just hitch up the trailer.

+1 for the firearm storage idea. I like that it's bolted through to the underside of the X.

How difficult is it to get your concealed carry permit?

How difficult is it to get your concealed carry permit?

it depends on the state that you live in, if they even have a concealed carry law. if they do, then in most states you have to take a course, pass a shoot on the range, and pass a background check. i got mine in texas, cost me about 150 bucks for the course and the fbi background check, and had to take a 10 hour course. once the background check was complete it takes about 60 days i believe to get your permit.

Good grief! In Alabama, the laws are so lax it's unbelievable. To get my CC permit, I went to the Sheriff's office, paid $20, took the most assinying test ever and walked out with my permit. Basically as long as you aren't a convicted felon, you can carry.

Keyz18

Washington: $50 for background check, fingerprint and paperwork fee... that's it, you get the permit.

unclehardrock
11-10-2008, 08:43 AM
yeah, it all depends on what state you live in. it's pretty similar here in nc to tx....but seeing as how i grew up in nj where you can't even get a cc permit, let alone it takes like 6 months to be able just to buy a pistol with all the damn laws....the price in tx wasn't bad at all to me...lol

About 175 bucks total for mine. Had to pay around 55 bucks for CC permit class...8 hrs (4 in class, 4 on range) Easy as cake! Paperwork and background was about 110 bucks total. Had to wait up to 90 days for background to clear but mine came within a month after I got the paperwork done.

If you're a police officer......ok cool

The reason I ask and the reason for the "WTF" is because the majority of people who carry guns unless they are police or military (sorry, I didn't know) are redneck freaks looking to scare anyone and everyone they come across with their loaded firearms.

Sorry you took it offensively. But its hard to tell who/what you're dealing with over the internet.

unclehardrock
12-04-2008, 12:46 PM
no worries. i didn't take it offensively, but like you said, it is very hard to get a feel for what people mean via text on a forum. i only posted it because there are a lot of folks on this forum who do carry, and do so legally, and some of them might have taken offense to it.

the area that i live in is not the greatest in the world, as is the case with where most military bases are located. i carry mainly for my wife and i's protection. i have already caught someone trying to take stuff from my garage at my house when one of my buddy's left the door open. maybe i'm a "redneck freak" with a loaded gun, although i am not orignially from the south, so i guess i'm some sort of yankee-redneck crossbreed....lol....but i digress....moral of the story....a 45 hollow point will definitely make you think twice about taking stuff that is important to me. it may not be how you feel about it, but, after all, it is a free country, one that i am proud to serve and keep that way for you so that you can be entitled to your own opinion. again, no offense taken by the statement, i was just speaking my mind on the matter.

internet hugs for all

cheers-

I carry mine when I go out in the woods where there is a likelyhood of something THAT could happen. I just like to be well prepared and protect myself from whatever could put me in harm's way. I normally dont carry when I'm in town or shopping centers because I dont want to draw unwanted attention and I am not threatened at those locations. Granted, I do travel downtown and its not the best place but I do carry down there occasionally if I'm going to have to stay late...thats when crime usually happens majority of the time down there at night but I stay away from the area as much as possible.

People who are legally abiding citizens have the right to carry and should feel free to do so, regardless of what anti-gun people think. Its their right and their right to protect themselves and their loved ones.

I carry my 9mm everyday...

Not a cop, not in the military...

The reason why I carry...the same reason why I carry a condom...it's not about if I need it but when I do need it, I have it.

I guess a guy with a 4 year college degree, works in the tech field and Japanese can be a redneck! I need to go and buy me a banjo and a john deere hat!

I live in NJ. Here it is illegal to carry unless you have a special circumstance or unless you’re Johnny Law. I have guns in my house for the same reason you guys do. I understand what you mean in protection for yourself and family…………..

In regards to carrying and the original "WTF", I can't say i wasn't generalizing just a little bit……but here’s why.

A good friend of mine (not so much anymore) moved down to TN a few years ago. Every time i go down to visit him all his buddies (with a combined IQ of about 7) get together every Monday for Monday Night RAW (no, I’m not kidding). The ages of these men range from about 22-70.

They all sit down and throw their guns on the table and have a 20 minute conversation about what they're carrying, who they would like to kill with them, and how many "N-Word's" they can kill with each full clip.

I sit there in awe wondering what the hell kind of people these are. One older man was even swinging his gun around one day telling stories (of back in the day) about how his brother shot a ____ and his pappy shot a _____ and he didn’t get to shoot one cause he got there too late………..and his disappointment to follow………..and everyone in the room (less myself) thought it was the greatest story ever................ (this is where the "Redneck Freak" comment was born)

Now mind you.....you guys may ALL be different then what i was exposed to, but that's what i saw to and that’s why i basically generalized with the "WTF" statement from the beginning. That’s all i know of civilians who carry guns.

Sorry if anyone took it the wrong way, but like I said……it’s a weird world we live in. and if that was the only exposure you ever had to something as dangerous as this…….i think you may have a few WTF’s lingering in your head as well.

Cheers

Agreed.

There are some life experiences that will influence how a person will view the world.

Don't worry, I wasn't offended...just thought your comment was pretty generalized ;)

i hear ya. i grew up in nj myself, so i know what the laws are like up there. that's why i was happy to move and be able to carry for myself. that being said, i agree, there are a lot of folks out there that probably shouldn't be carrying. but if you follow the laws and are intelligent with your weapons, it's all good. my guns are all locked in a safe in my house that only my wife and i know the code to. even though they're inside the safe, they've also got trigger locks on them. that's why i put that safe in my x. wanted somewhere else secure to keep them when i'm on the road. and when i'm carrying, it's concealed. i don't go around waving the gun for all the see. half the time my wife doesn't even realize that i was carrying until we get home and i open the safe up to put the gun back. like dave said, i wasn't offended either. just think it was a little over generalized. but, when that's your only experience with folk who carry, i can understand why.

i live in NJ too, my family(well, at least the guys) loves shooting....all i can say is that NJ gun laws are wayyyy too strict.....been waiting on my firearms ID card for about 6 months now....once i get that, i will apply for a pistol purchase permit, which will more than likely take another 6 months

12-05-2008, 11:28 AM
not sure exactly what you're asking for by specs, but if you're asking about if the cubic volume of the box is what the manufacturer recommends for the sub, then yes, it is. if that's not what you're asking, then i'm gonna need some more clarification to answer your question

Those stories about buying guns are unreal.

It took me 3 months to get my firearms ID. After having to go to like 3 police stations for fingerprints and FBI checks..........I finally get my ID.

Once i get my ID, i apply at the police station for a permit. after getting interrigated by the police cheif about "Why do you need a gun?".........i finally get my permit to go buy.

I go to buy. and i think i signed more papers and forms than i did for the closing on my house.

And that was for my first gun.....Sig 226 9mm. All in all it was a hastle, but it was worth it in the end. But i'm so jealous of those who can walk into a store and make their purchase without hassle.

Cheers guys.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but, being a firearms salesman and instructor (neither military or law enforcement), I can see both sides of this gun discussion. I carry a gun because of the already mentioned reason (I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it and need it) yet, I think the real root of the problem is education. I deal with many responsible gun owners and I also deal with people who should be legally banned from procreating let alone owning a firearm. I guess it is a subjective thing, yet, the fact that we have the 2nd amendment is a great thing and that is the one thing that separates us from the rest of the world making us unique. Our system may not be perfect, but, we have the right to own and carry and I strongly believe that we should take advantage of it...moving on...

Nice enclosure! I agree with not wanting to shell out the money for the JBL one. About how much did it cost in materials?
