Jdubbau02 11-08-2008, 05:25 PM Great x man!!
DaveC 11-08-2008, 06:54 PM Great looking black Xterra! Congrats. For future reference; if you're ever unsure again, count the spark plug wire ends at the distributor cap right in front of the engine. You can see the 6 wires (i.e. 6 spark plugs...i.e. 6 cylinders). Also, there's typically an emissions sticker under the hood that will tell you the engine class.
Enjoy it!
Brett89 11-08-2008, 08:05 PM Nice looking X, great colour! Super Black is a mirror when cleaned and waxed!
TomParis 11-08-2008, 08:54 PM I knew people would be like duh count the spark plug wires, but sometimes when you look at the distributor some go back to other things besides the plugs like the coil etc... im an old school guy, not used to these little tight motors, I thought it was the six, I did count the plug wires, however the documents from the previous owner showed service records and they said 4 cylinder and I was like WHHAAAA!!!
I work for FDLE and we ran the VIN and its a one owner truck, no records in the title show anything like flood damage etc, so hopefully it wasnt something like that and they swapped the engine. I will go out and inspect the shroud didn't catch that, I did check the oil dipstick and radiator etc for signs of damage, nothing else to tipped me off. I drove it home from the dealership (185 miles away) and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Any other things for me to check for feel free to throw them out, I appreciate this forum already!!
Keyz18 11-09-2008, 11:21 AM That is a very clean x for a Gen 1! Nice grab!
TimRich 11-10-2008, 04:31 PM Looks good!!! Love the black...
TomParis 11-10-2008, 06:07 PM thanks I like the look of yours, nice rims!
TimRich 11-11-2008, 02:26 PM Thanks!!! I need to get some better shots than just the ones from my phone...
Ricer-X 11-11-2008, 02:40 PM sweet deal!
ps - nissan batteries suck beef
bluex 11-12-2008, 06:50 PM Dave I had an '91 Ford Ranger 4 banger that had 8 spark plugs.
DaveC 11-12-2008, 07:29 PM Dave I had an '91 Ford Ranger 4 banger that had 8 spark plugs.
Ummmm....yeah. But it was 2 plugs per cylinder; and you know as well as I do that the Xterra engine isn't made that way ;) I had a 91 Ranger as well at one point. But come one, you're reaching with that comparison :mocking:
TomParis 11-13-2008, 10:01 AM I have a question, the only issue I have found is that the rear hatch metal latch on the inside (where the rear door meets and truck and connects to close the door) is rusty. I was wondering first how it got rusty and second if anyone knows where I can get a replacement...
Thanks!
Drake 11-13-2008, 11:20 AM Does the rear wiper fluid jet work? It's possible that the hose may be leaking down into the hatch. That's just a swaggle but it could be the case.
As for a replacement:
http://www.courtesyparts.com/xterra-wd22-2000-2004/genuine-nissan-parts/body-back-door-rear-body/905-back-door-lock-handle/-c-532_14_90_395.html
That's a schematic of the rear door lock assembly. Just click on the number of the part you need and it will take you to the order page and you can see the cost there. You can also use the number to give to the service dept. at the dealership and see if they have one on hand.
TomParis 11-13-2008, 12:11 PM wow I will check that, didn't even think about that!! Thanks!
X~Terror 11-13-2008, 12:45 PM The engine is very clean..
Nice X
TomParis 11-18-2008, 02:40 PM my nissan dealership doesn't have one on hand, and wants $17.37 for the part, I looked it up on the courtseynissan website that you linked and its $8.31 but shipping is $10.00. So ends up the same price, but what sucks is my dealership is not shipping it!! I really want to replace it, but think 20.00 for this little part seems high to me.
what do you guys think?
$20 is probably the cheapest amount you will spend fixing something on the x
order it, or waste time and gas going to another dealership or a salvage yard
skoobysx 11-18-2008, 03:23 PM Sweet looking X!
hustle 11-18-2008, 04:10 PM Awsome X Tom, now put it up on blocks and start taking stuff off already.
TomParis 11-18-2008, 05:48 PM I will take pictures of the part and see what you guys think, it just bothers me... but otherwise I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!
JaXTerra 12-01-2008, 04:38 PM Nice X man. So that's what a clean engine compartment looks like!
I'm noticing the Tape Wrapped Conduit in these pics. I could be wrong but that doesn't look OEM to me, I'm pretty sure OEM uses Zip Ties. Did they add some sort of aftermarket goodies in there for you??
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll114/TomParisOBC/DSCN3292.jpg
DaveC 12-01-2008, 05:44 PM You could eat out of that damn engine bay! lol.
Pops, I just went out and looked at my wiring and it doesn't look like that..so maybe someone did a re-wrap of the wiring...the OEM stuff might have burnt, melted, or just crumbled away....it happens I guess.
TomParis 12-01-2008, 06:15 PM not sure, put 1k miles on it this weekend, and it runs and drives well. I wave to all other Xterra owners (like the motorcycle rider club), and most look at me like im nuts... lol
JaXTerra 12-01-2008, 07:02 PM You do that too!
I did that at first too, then after receiving dumbfounded looks or a middle finger, I wait to wave until I can see if the X or its occupant looks adventurous.
I've had 2 people honk, wave & give a thumbs up from other 4x4's. I'm sure that's due to the most excellent ClubX sticker.
Although like real estate, waving & thumbs up are all about the location. As you get further off the highway the people tend to get friendlier.
