Alright so about a half hour ago I decided to go up to the gas station on the corner of the street to get something to drink. The X started fine when I left my house, I park, go inside, buy my stuff and leave and as I go to start my car to leave everything shuts off interior lights and all. I turn the key and nothing happens, it doesn't even sound like it is trying to start. So it is still sitting at the gas station and I am really hoping someone can help me out on this. It did the same thing a couple of nights ago and left me stranded at the lake...

Battery? Maybe dead alternator?

So could I just jump it to get it back to my house? I really don't want to leave it at th gas station all night.

Sounds like you could jump the battery and see what happens. If it starts right back up after the jumpstart, I'd say its the battery as the culprit but I'd take it to Autozone and have them do battery/alternator testing soon.

You might want to invest in a self-battery jumper. I have been stranded few times and that thing has came in handy for me many times without having to call somebody for help and its not easy to do most of the time.

Speaking of, you said it happened to you couple nights ago....did you jump it to get it back home or what?

The X is back in it's rightful place! My ground cable was loose.

The last time it did it I had to call a buddy to came and jump me, but as soon as we got there I tried to start it again so he could hear it and it started up just fine. So that kind of confused me as well, we hadn't touched anything yet and for some reason it worked just fine.

Glad you got the issue worked out. I had a problem with the ground cable coming loose off the battery terminal before but after some cleaning, it hasn't moved since so might wanna scrub the terminals and re-tighten.

Yeah I will probably do that tomorrow. The thing is I was working on my car right before I left for the gas station, so I guess I just didn't tighten up the ground cable enough before I left. But I still don't understand why it did the same thing a couple of nights ago. I suppose it could of been the ground cable, but I hadn't even touched the battery for about a month at that point.

Yeah, I got out to the lake that night about an hour or so before it gets dark. I was bored and just kind of driving around all of the old dirt roads in the middle of no where that no one uses anymore. Eventually I get to a clearing that opens up to a beautiful view of the lake. So I kill the car, get out and just kind of relax for a few minutes. I go back to start the car and leave and of course it won't start. By this time it was starting to get dark, so I call a friend of mine and he agrees to come and give me a jump. About that time the phones cut out so we were limited to text messages at that point. I tell him how to get to me. To get to where I was you have to go down a long gravel road and then turn off on this old, crappy dirt "road". Well, there are several dirt roads that come off of this gravel road so instead of trying to explain which dirt road I am on, I decide do walk down the dirt road to meet him on the gravel road (about 2 miles). Keep in mind that it takes about a half hour to get from the city to the state park where the lake is, so I grab my flashlight (it is pitch black at this point), my pocket knife, phone, keys, and wallet and begin my walk. The dirt road i'm walking down has fairly thick trees to the right side, thick enough that you can't see whats in them. The entire time I am walking down this road I can hear something following me in the trees, which I did not like. I get to where the dirt road meets the gravel road, my friend is not there yet. So I decide to start walking up the gravel road, which is bordered by trees on both sides, and meet him as he comes down the gravel road. So now I can hear something following me on both sides of me, so obviously there were more than one of whatever they were (I am guessing coyotes).I walk about a mile down the gravel road and I see headlights coming towards me, and I think great, now we can finally get back to my car and start to figure out what is wrong with this thing. By this point I am cold, tired, and extremely paranoid (the only thing I could think of as I was walking was the movie Wrong Turn). We get back to my car, pop the hood, and I get in to turn the key so my friend can hear the sound it was making, and of course it starts just fine. From the time my car died to the time we got back to it was about 2 1/2 hours.

Damn. I have seen the movie, Wrong Turn and it really freaked me out and would hate to be in that situation you were in with the strange sounds following you as you walked. I have been there before once. I have been stranded in the middle of the woods at night with nothing but my portable spotlight and pocket knife when my Jeep got stuck and ended up walking but had something following me and I shined the light on it and was only able to see the "glowing" eyes but wasn't able to make out what it was cuz I made a loud noise and it ran off. Now cuz of that, I never go to the woods without my gun since I have a permit and pray I will never have to use it.

Yeah it really freaked me out at the time, but after I got home I had a good laugh about it. But I am not going out there right before it gets dark again.

Generally if the vehicle has seemed to be starting ok then suddenly it won't even kick the solenoid the first thing to do is check the connections.
I don't even bother to count the number of times I misrouted a wire or it came loose and ended up laying against a header and either burning through or shorting out. Sometimes a tap of a hammer on the starter can get things going again too.

Another useful skill to learn is how to activate the starter without using the ignition key, so if the starter solenoid or ignition mechanism ever take a dive you can still get your vehicle going.

That was probably a pair of coyotes. We have a few packs of small wolves in state now but your description sounds more like a pair of coyotes to me. We used to have a family of them in living in an undeveloped area of the neighborhood I'm living in now.

The house we moved from is less than a mile away cutting through the trees so I used to walk over to this one every night to do what I could while it was being built. The Coyotes would follow me almost every night as I walked through their area. I tried to get them to come up to me a few times but they always kept their distance and wouldn't let me get too close to them. They eventually had to move on as more streets were laid, I kinda missed having them around for awhile. They're pretty cool animals as long as you don't have any livestock or pets to worry about them getting to.

A few years back, I heard stories about some cougars being found down in your area. As the story goes, they think they've captured them all and relocated them back to Colorado where they think they came from but I wouldn't bet on it. If you're planning to hit the boonies close to dark, just make sure to pack a solid leather jacket like a rancher's jacket, leather work gloves, and a mashetti or combat knife or something. A pistol wouldn't hurt but shooting at something moving in the dark ain't easy.

Sounds like a nice lake. :)

Yeah I don't mind the coyotes, the won't even mess with people. A friend of mine lives right outside the border of the state park and he has seen what he described as a "big ass black cat" walking through his property.

We have black panthers in the area where my grandma lives...its a farm town so those are kinda frequent but they're very nice looking cats though.

I could tell you guys a story from Lewistown, Montana area. We had a property where it took an hour to get to town by jeep.
Out in the middle of zip.
Happened in 1989 and to this day my hair still stands up on my neck.
But, you would think I was nuts and on drugs!

Duke, I spent a week out in the middle of Yellowstone. We took a guided trip driving 4x4's pulling horse trailers until the road ended, mounted up and spent the whole afternoon/evening on horseback and setup camp. The guides mounted up first thing in the morning and left with the horses until they came back for us Friday at noon. Personally, I'd have very little reason to doubt your story and would like to hear it.

Glazener, I also heard about the Lioness that escaped. The story I heard is that she was a personal pet that escaped. The panther might be the same story as the cougars I heard about, we know how stories can get altered when told by word of mouth. Big Cats scare the living tar outta me.

dude you guys are nuts walking with coyotes shit thats crazy im here in the stupid city the biggest cats i see are raccoons and with everybody's garbage lying around those things get big and mean but still are house pets compared to what you guys are around. The craziest story i've got is we live near foothills and i like to bikeride in the hills and outta no where a tiny little bobcat jumps outta the bushes and starts practically running besides me it was smaller than a typical house cat. Rather be in the mountains and country where i can ride dirt roads all over the place but can't have everything in life

Haha, my dad used to have a pet bobcat. He found it when it was a cub (I think baby bobcats are called cubs?) and kept it. That was a long time ago though and now days I think you need a license to have pets like that.

Yesterday at the Vets office I talked to a wolf rescue guy.
He has 10 right now and had 3 with him.
He rescues wolfs that I guess use to be pets?
Said some even sleep in his house.
The 3 with him where really nice, I licked my 3.5 pound puppy like a mother.
I thought this was really cool and offered to help out at anytime.
Wolfs in Arizona, how cool.
