man, sweet X! just wait till xmas break during that road trip, youre totally gonna have another addition!
looks good!
you should try to mount the cb antenna higher, you'd get much better reception.
also, is that speaker pointed up? if so, be careful w/ that, you might wanna turn it 180 degrees cause water can get in it and it can start to rust it and stuff.

good installs though! love the X.

I wanted to get a pic of it stuck, but I didn't want to piss the guys off that were helping us get it out, but take a look at the pic of Drake's truck as it was almost flopped. That's how it looked when we were trying to jack it up to get some boards underneath it. As for the step rails, yea I'm gonna take them off soon. I was gonna take them off this morning, but my friend was ready to go so we just took off the front mud flaps. I still gotta take off my rear sway bar aswell.

I have to rerun the cables for the antennas as they are right near my subs and when I have my X off you can talk on the cb and hear it through the subs. Yea I could put it up there. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger of 4 Hella 500s this weekend and with that I have another mod that I plan to do along with the lights where the air dam is. I could hook up the PA up there while I'm at it.

Also, I'm looking at some Cragar Soft 8s. Which ones should I go with?

Cragar 3975860P Wheel, Soft 8, Steel, Black, 15 in. x 8 in., 6 x 5.5 in. Bolt Circle, 4.75 in. Backspace

or

15" x 8", 6 x 4.5" bolt pattern with a 4.75" backspace

Just finished installing my 4 Hella 500s, and here some pics of the lights and the light pattern. I also put my airdam back on because it puts a lot of light into my cabin. I'm gonna have to do something else also because there is a 2 to 3 inch gap between the light bar and the airdam and light still comes in. Tomorrow morning I am going to take off my rear sway bar. I've been putting PB Blaster on the bolts so hopefully I can get the bolts loose, because I've been having problems trying to get one of the bolts loose.

My next mod will be a 2" BL followed by new rims and tires.

way to go man, glad you got all the wires fixed...what was the problem when you were asking me? was it the ground?

One of the problems was the ground and there was something else wrong with it, everything was wired correctly and grounded, but the two inner lights just wouldn't come on. I blew like 5 or 6 fuses during the process.

I have one more problem with it, the light bar is not sturdy enough and when I drive my lights bounce up and down. I guess I'm gonna have to go with a new piece of angle iron for the light bar. Any suggestions?

tameroflions
01-18-2009, 10:45 PM
angle iron and a hack saw.
have fun!

i used angle aluminum on mine and it was pretty much the same problem, but probably not as bad as your having now.
so either one should work for you. honestly, you might be able to get away w/ angle aluminum cause your hellas are lighter than my kc style lights.

Yea. I gotta head back up to Home Depot, the angle iron I got is real flimsy. Hack saw to cut off the excess and a bench grinder to cut the grooves and the holes.

I also have to clean up all the wiring on it. It is really messy right now, but that won't be too hard.

Sorry to revive an (kinda) old thread; but in order to get the best performance out of your PA, you should mount it so it is pointing at an angle (I would suggest 45 degrees) to the ground. That way the sound waves bounce off of the road making it louder. One of my buddies (fellow fireman) told me about this when we were talking about sirens.

lol I grew up in Mississipp til i was like 11 yrs old, and down there we called it "mud riddin'" then I moved up to illinois, and one day in high school I asked my friends if they wanted to go mud riddin' and they all started laughing, cause they just say "muddin'" up here.

I just thought that was kinda funny. reading that just brought back some memories.

Rugger02
08-18-2009, 11:01 PM
Interesting, I grew up in Ohio and we called it 'off roading.' I lived in Texas for 7yrs and we called it 'muddin.' But Texas is so big it depends on where ya live. I know it's not called that in El Paso. I've been in Savannah for almost a year now and I'm still tryin' to figure out what to call it.
Thanx for the link Rob. Your picS are fantastic. White isn't a popular color for those who go 'muddin', 'off-roading', mud riddin', '4x4ing', 'trail riding' or what the fuck... But you driving a white X does shout out an unmistakable message. " I AM SLUGGER THE INCREDIBLE! WHITE IS MY CHOSEN COLOR OF TRANSPARENCY, SO THAT ALL CAN SEE WHERE I'VE BEEN. I BODLY TAKE MY X WHERE NO AVERAGE DRIVER DARE. Slugger

They were 3' antennas. As you said that you won't be able to see the whip as good, not true, that is what I use to find my truck in parking lots lol. I think it is easier to see that than the 3' antennas that I previously had.

Hey man, the xterra is looking good, even with that bama flag lol How did you like that whip you had on there? I think I am picking one up later this week from radioshack and was just wondering how much it flopped around. Also what size spring did you have on there with it? Sorry for all the questions lol

O man, I loved the whip on there the only problem I had with it was I wish I would of put it on the passengers side instead of the drivers side, because going through drive-throughs sucked. I went through a drive-through about 2 weeks ago and the whip caught up on something and bent it up, so I took it off until I can straighten it back up. As for the spring, this is the spring I got Chrome-Plated Spring (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062089)

If you plan on getting one definitely get a tennis ball to put on the antenna because it will flop into the side of the X, I have plenty of dent marks and scuffs from the whip.

and ROLL TIDE!! lol

Alright, good deal. I don't have to worry about it banging against much cause I will most likely be mounting it in my bed somewhere, but I will add the tennis ball if necessary. I am just hoping I don't look like too much of a redneck with this bigass whip on the back of my truck lol I am assuming the reception was pretty good with such a long antenna? My mag mount and 2 ft fiberglass antenna has horrible reception.

Yea the reception is much better than my 4' fiberglass antenna, but I think I will get better reception now with it because it is just as tall if not taller than my roof rack, plus I need to get the cb tuned as well which will help out. Here, a lot of people have a whip on their trucks. Not many people have whips on SUVs, just fiberglass antennas.

Rob can you take pics of the trimming you had to do to have 4'' back spacing rims?

I might get these next summer
