snow is here and it is time to work on my bike. i dont know if it is a common problem but my 99 hayabusa pops out of gear under acceleration, especially second.

ive done a little research and i guess i need my tranny to be undercut? is this common? how much would it cost? i dont think i could do this myself.

one guy on here is a big suzuki guy. I think he's more into the GSX-R's though. Give it some time I'm sure he'll post up if he knows what your problem is or where to find an answer about it. post up some pics too

A Hayabusa is a GSX-R 1300 so it should be very similar. I believe this problem is very common among the Busas and Gixxers just like running Hot on warm summer nights has been because this is not the first time I've heard of it. I know that there's some trans work involved but I've never heard what it is exactly that fixes it. I think it's something to do with a bent Gear Forks or something. I know that those gear assemblies are way under built for the bike and if you slip when shifting, speed shift, or weak clutch your shifts, this is ineviteable. It might even happen if heavy clutching for all I know but I know it lasts longer with proper shifting. I haven't known anyone who fixes their own bike, which doesn't make sense to me. Working on it is part of the fun of ownership IMO.

If your Gear Forks are bent, they need to be replaced and you need to look into installing some prevention. I would think there are some aftermarket products available because I would think that heavy racing on those bikes would need something stronger. I don't know what undercutting is but I'm guessing it might be more for prevention than a fix. You might hit the Gixxer forums, there's a ton of feedback on them.

You're right, my mistake. It's a GSX1300R. I edited my bonehead reply above.

well it just started happening, it is a 10 year old model as the 09's are out now. i do have near 50k miles.

i was able to get the tranny out by just turning the motor upside down, pulling the lower case and took the tranny out the bottom.

i found a place if i send it to them. it is 250 to undercut the gears and change forks and shafts. i dont think that sounds too bad.

ill shop around. but i guess it sounds ok to me.

Seems right along the price I'm thinking I've heard it costs, doesn't sound bad to me. I think the forks are only around $30-$50 or so but there is a bit of labor involved installing them from my understanding. I don't have any idea how much the shafts would run. Could you post up if you find out what is involved with undercutting the gears?? I'm really curious what they mean by that.

i guess it is very common on busa's even new ones get the problem. if suzuki covers it, they just put the same crappy parts in.

undercutting modifies the drive dogs and slots to force the gears to lock together under acceleration.

the drive dogs from the factory have 0 degree back cut which allows the corneres to roll over resulting in gears disengaging.

i am trying to figure out if i should get them all done? or just second since that is my only problem it is a heavily modded bike and i plan to keep it for awhile. money isnt really an issue cuz i love this bike.

since i took the tranny out i sent the belly wing and chain guard and some other stuff like rims, to get powercoated pearl white.
when all this get done i hope i can install nitrous and my air shifter.

I'd say get them all done. just to make sure you other gears wont do it at a later point. you wont regret it. they make not but it would sure beat the time and money of having to take it out and have them ground again

with you wanting to install nos and a air shifter get them all done.... and just so yall know the new buses are 1400's...... Suzuki had to step it up a notch due to Kawasaki making the zx-14 ( busa killer ) if there is any other tech ?'s you need answered or a good mechanic shop if you are ever in the TX, OK area let me know and i will put you in touch with my dad..... he is a AMA certified, Harley trained mech that owns his own shop.....

hey someone else that gets a kick on two wheels, or one depending on how you ride lol..... get the gears undercut all of them and also i believe factory pro has a shift kit with a new shift star that improves shifting a 10000000 times, i installed one on my 98 that slipped out in 2nd all the time, after the star it never slipped again and it shifted so much smoother with a nice snic into gears

Look me up on www.Hayabusa.org

It is a common problem for the busa. There should be a step by step guide on the .org to resolve your issue.
