I was browsing thru some stuff and came across this. Really cool idea if you have an SE model.

That's so funny, I was just thinking about making those a few days ago, lol. Someone was talking about the basket being in the way of the sunroof. That's cool.

Very cool. I like the look, and I had thought about trying something like that myself. Where do I find that type of shield material you showed us?

Check around for a plastics distributor in your area. What your looking for is tinted or "smoked" acrylic. It is usually sold in sheets of a certain size (kinda like plywood). Buy a sheet, make one for yourself and then sell the rest. It's possible Home Depot may have tinted plexiglass or acrylic but I would be suspect about it's ability to withstand the weather.

I can't wait to see what you end up doing... I know it's gonna be sick.

I didn't want a sunroof but I would do this mod if I had one, looks cool. I never figured out why Nissan put a sunroof under the fairing, the basket kicks ass.

I loved the sunroof in my RSX though, super fun

Yea I got some 4 sheets of plexiglass for free from work so I plan on doing something like this real soon as soon as I order 2 sets of Hella 500s.

What you actualy want is "polycarbonate" not "acrylic", that's what we make race car windshields and clear mod race snowmobile hoods out of. The acrylic can't take much of a hit before it shatters and will yellow sooner in the sun, but the polycarb can take a hit by a rock the size of a quarter and it will just bounce right off. Also the acrylic scratches a lot easier and melts at a lower temp. (most people call it lexan, but that's actually just a brand name by GE) Plexiglas is also just a brand name.

Wow! Mr. Creepy Cruiser Sir, I am totally impressed. As I'm an aircraft maintenance instructor, I am waist deep in technical crap all day so I can appreciate your dazzling and brilliant display of product knowledge. Seriously, that's great info. thx

Here is a hint into mine... No it's not my truck but as you can see how it bends. I will be using this plus an aluminum bar across the "Polycarbonate" to hold my lights and something else... Stevin knows a little bit of it ;) Unfortunately gotta wait until I get some mulah for the lights and to find a company to do a few bends with the "Polycarbonate" haha I am kidding with the quotation marks. Thank you for telling me that creepy, I have been asking around for lexan and now I wont feel like an idiot! I don't want acrylic at all!

dude, its a good pic and I like the aluminium mounts for the hi-lift jack....any idea what it is? I may need those for my lightbar re-location.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me ;)

Anytime guys, lol. (always looking out for ya). I fab with a lot of different stuff out there.

You can do the bends yourself actually. An old baseboard heater has a great heating element in it for making the bends. You just tear all the guards off and expose the element, then set your polycarb about 1"-2" away and wait till it gets soft enough to make the bend. Once it gets the the bending point take it away from the heat and hold in the correct position untill it cools. It helps to make up a small jig ahead of time. The only draw back to using a baseboard heater is you need 220v in your shop. You can also do it with a heat gun and some MDF (old school, lol), but it takes a while.

Does anyone have instructions on how to do this mod?
