Had some time off from work this afternoon and was able to give the x a bath and get some pics. it's an 05 s with a 6spd manual. i changed out the factory head unit for a pioneer deh6800, replaced all the factory speakers with pioneers(6x9 in thr front, 6 1/2 in the rear) and installed 2 10inch kenwood subs with a sony xpload 300 watt amp...(could have gone louder, but between the pipes on my bike and flying the 4 fan trash can for a living, i'm practically deaf already)...sound system is so much better now then stock, and the subs really make the difference to getting a rich, full sound. also installed a foglight set up, rewired it so that they work with just the parkinglights on, allowing them to remain on with the highbeams- changed the bulbs to 100 watt xenons. these things are crazy bright. i can drive with just the fogs on at night and it looks like the factory headlights are on. also changed the bulbs on the headlights. as for the future, looking into a k/n intake and who knows what else. enjoy

Pleae tell me how to rewire the fogs to run with the parking lights? I saw it once on line and paid no attention to it. Now I would love to do that.

i did it on the x using an aftermarket wiring harness instead of the factory stalk. it should be possible to do if you have the complete factory setup, as i did this to my old sentra specv, but i couldn't find a how to for it anywhere. what i did was get an aftermarket light harness(you can find then at any auto parts store, walmart, etc) and used that. ran the power switch inside the truck and mounted it on the steering column right below the turn signal stalk. there should be four wires on the wiring harness- one is a positive, goes directly to the battery, negative, ground anywhere you want, one goes to the power switch, and the last one is the accessory wire- i ran mine into the fuse for the tail lights- this way there is power to the fogs anytime the parking or headlights are on, but shuts the fogs off if you turn off the lights, so i don't forget to shut them off and kill my battery. then i just ran the wires for the fog lights directly to the fog light bulbs.

when i did this on my sentra, it involved splicing the wire out of the fog light relay into the parking light harness, but i had found a very detailed how-to on the net for it. i searched for a while to find one like this for the x, but came up empty. so i decided to go with an alternate method. since my x didn't come with the factory fogs, i ordered those and installed them, then just used the wiring method above. i'll put a couple of pics of where the wires are so you can see it-

i just realized that i had the web page saved on my pc from when i did this to the spec v- it's not exactly the same wiring on the x, but it'll give you an idea of what to look for if you want to get brave with the wiring on your x

Looking good. I like the Avalanche.

How long did pulling the door panels take? swapping out from stock speakers is on the to do list sometime here soon.

door panels come off really easy actually. there's a real good write up on the site here on the interior mods forum about speakers, that's where i learned how to get the panels off...there's only 4 screws that hold them in place. fronts are a direct 6x9 replacement....no mods needed....you'll need an adapter plate for the rears, i got mine from crutchfield.com for like 15 bucks...i swaped all 4 speakers in about an hour...below is the install manual for the xterra that crutchfield sent with my order....shows everything needed to get the door panels off- one page is from the front speakers, the other for the rear- i couldn't get both front pages, the images were too big for the forum limit when i scanned them, but like i said, the doors come off the same front and rear. i also have the diagrams for the headunit if anyone wants to see them....let me know, i'll scan and post, or email me at xjohnxconx@yahoo.com and i'll send you a better copy since i can send a larger file that way

What kind of sound system you got in the Herc?

ha.....1940's avioncs systems in that thing....i fly e models, so they are pretty old....the newest of them were built in the 60's...however, you can patch an mp3 player into the interphone system with the right kind of cables...nice for those long flights, except for when atc is trying to talk to you

As I heard the B-52 pilot say on the discovery channel, "it may not be your dads air force anymore, but it's his plane" So tell me, what kind of tuneage does your load master like to hear on the 1MC when he's putting the boot to that load pallet with the hummer strapped down to it?

I liked that runway buzz part of the video, I thought he was going to stall it going up. That one must have really been hanging on the props. Considering your age, are you an right out of the academy or flight school via college?

yeah....i did rotc through college....always wanted to fly, and it was the perfect way to get there...had my private in college...got my commission and went straight to flight school....flew t-6s out in southwest texas, then trained with the navy in a joint school for 6 months in corpus...got my wings out of there and am almost done here at little rock, which is the 130 school house and then heading out to pope afb in nc

My second oldest daughter is a junior in hs this fall, she intends to go rotc navy and study to become a doctor. I think it's an excellent way to go.
