First off what is KUMA? Kuma is japanese for the word Bear! No I know it doesn't look like a bear but I did name my truck after my best bud! For my 14th birthday I received a black lab/golden retreiver mix puppy! My brother served an LDS mission in Japan and suggested the name... Ever since I have used the name for Gaming, Xterra, Online, Email, etc etc etc.
This is the Kuma!

TRANSITION
And here is my stock 2000 Nissan Xterra SE as of July 27th, 2007 exactly one day after my birthday and only 1 week after purchasing it. I know its blue and not black like I wish it was, if I knew my dad wouldn't kill me I would stealth it all!

First Day off road! Note ditched the mudflaps asap!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_6222.jpg
A friend convinced me to go four wheeling up Tibble Fork in American Fork Canyon. So we got some mud!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/CopyofDSCF0017.jpg
Then the reason WHY everyone says to get rid of step rails happened! (Yep thats me!) And that my step rails shoved completely back into my tires, I was unable to move, only option was to take off and four wheel the rest the way down the trail with the rail strapped to my roof...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_6867.jpg
After that I decided the fake cheap chrome rocker panels needed to come off! And these are the officially the biggest PITA! I had to use a heat gun a full can of spraying "Goo Off!" and a plastic scrapper to finally remove all the glue and padding. I recommend NEVER put these on in the first place, mine came with them from the previous owner.
Next came tires and lights! Choice of rubber is 32" x 9.50" Dick Cepek Mountain Cat M/T. Lights received for christmas present are IPF 900XS, with a custom light switch mod I did mounting my switches on the center console please go here (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4562) to see that!

Decided it was time to part with my motorcycle as I did not ride it much anymore so I sold my bike and purchased a Shrockworks Front Bumper. Had a special order made for a 2nd gen frontier style prerunner bar added on to my bumper order plus stainless skid plate! Ordered March 29th the wait began! Front Bumper install thread and pics can be found here (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5869)!
May 19th got my bonus and decided a Shrockworks Rear Bumper was next, my parents also said they would pay for Sliders as my birthday gift, once again the wait began. In the mean time decided to move on to my new projects. Stealth Wheels, storage box with sleep surface, and LED upgrades!
Received my rear bumper sooner then expected! Pics of rear bumper can be found here (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5331)!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_9862.jpg
Following month I received my highly anticipated Front Bumper! Not only was I waiting to see how it looked but so was alot of other people! Next month as well receiving my front skid plate....

I have recently installed an AC 3" rear shackle adding 1.5" of lift to the rear with new 3" longer rear Bilsteins. Old shocks were so shock you can compress them with your hands and they stay compressed.
I also have but not installed yet Calmini Upper Control Arms, with Rancho Shocks, Sway-A-Way Torsion Bars for a 3" Front lift. Rear Rancho single Add-A-Leaf to add another 1.5" of lift making 3" in rear as well.
Not featured but will soon, LED upgrades, finished Storage Box with extensions for sleeping/work space. Rear back up lights, possibly a front light bar with Thor Mod. And much much much more! I am always dreaming up crazy new idea's.
Stay tuned! I will keep this thread up to date! :D Oh and a little laugh here a picture of me for all of you to see after I got rid of the long hair!

wow. your truck is sick. i really wish we had trails like that, prerunning type stuff, utah has everything!
TN4x4Xterra 10-17-2008, 01:50 PM Dude....excellent pics!
Makes me wanna move to Utah! LOL
vandebogart 10-17-2008, 01:57 PM Great pics!
json3904 10-17-2008, 09:50 PM sweet pics man....
Hey thanks guys! Yeah Utah is quite amazing! It really does have everything a lot of prerunning though where I like to go into the desert. I like it because its more remote then the mountains. However I can literally go from climbing a snow cover peak in 4 low to cruising across flat hot desert in less than an hour drive either way from my house. Utah is remarkable like that! And there is alot of undiscovered treasures still to be found thanks to the mormon pioneers. My friend always says Utah is only place you can go 4 wheeling, snow boarding, wake boarding, and skate boarding all in the same day with a completely different mountains and valleys.
TN4x4Xterra 10-19-2008, 06:27 PM man....wish that was like that here....snow on one side while hot on another side....
Yeah its really nice I love it but sometime we have really weird weather one day you are all bundled up and its negative degree weather the next day seriously and I kid you not because this happened 2 winters ago the very next day I was outside with friends in shorts and t-shirt.
Update: Got my sliders and now are installed! I will post pics later... Also I will redo my orignal post to highlight all my mods and give links to them, maybe also resize images. If the images are too big please tell me!
aznboihoy03 10-20-2008, 05:51 PM daym thas pretty bad ass, bro! love the transformation pics from stock to off-road!
atekt 10-29-2008, 02:13 PM Ive seen that X before ;)
Roryo513 11-16-2008, 02:21 PM Utah looks sick
Nice X, pictures looks so much better when their are scenery behind it, rather than just someones parking lot.
BTW, in my opinion, bigger pics are better.
Love watching the transition of your X. Got a real badass ride there Kuma!
LA RANA 11-16-2008, 11:04 PM Nice work man, awesome build, and I like the Lab also!
I haven't been in Utah for a long time but know pretty well...climbed to the top of Kings Peak (probably the most pristine terrain my eyes have seen and I've seen my share), water skied Lake Powell for a week, snow skied Snow Bird and Sun Dance, did a bunch of horse packing in the Southern part of the state (2 months), and lived near Provo for a short time. Oh yeah I hiked Arches National Park as well, that place is pretty unique. Gorgeous state!!
tameroflions 11-16-2008, 11:08 PM i still love that shrock man. good work.
sorry again about that tag on facebook!
Well gentlemen and woman I have a treat for you some new pics! I went out yesterday for a just a few hours. We had to test my dads new hydraulic steering he just got (jeep's stock steering sucks worse then anything, it broke on a pretty easy trail) we found a perfect little trail and some really nice camp grounds that I will probably use come spring. Without further ado...

There is a few more but I will post those as a trip report one of these days though it wasn't a very big one... My dad let me drive his jeep and you would not believe the response! There is no feed back on the wheel it just turns on a dime! But sitting in that tall jeep with that steering and small windshield I felt like I was playing an Arcade game. My dad couldn't believe I said that about his jeep.
So I let him try my Xterra he simply got out after and said "It's like a dream, so smooth I couldn't feel any of those bumps, its just like a prerunner in those videos!" He also said while on the trail we have to go some where I can't follow, haha good luck trying to find that place!
Well guys thanks for all the comments the only mod's I have had lately are LED lights in all my interior dome and map lights but I have more coming on tuesday for the side markers/backup/and high mount stop lights so I will wait until then to post pics! Also to come is my lift! POSSIBLY this week! I am waiting for the shop owner to say he is ready and finished with his present project, I am dreading it though... I don't want my ride to stiffen from the new tbars and aal.
Well guys I will probably update my first post soon too! Thanks again for all the great comments! Makes me proud to have such a great vehicle that does everything I want both as a daily driver and offroad!
Man, you have really nice truck. I got 2001 xe the same color as yours.
From what I understand, there is no lift on your X, except PML. Is that right?
How much trimming if any did you have to do to accomodate those 32'' tires?
Thanks.
Nice work man, awesome build, and I like the Lab also!

La Rana you should come back to Utah one of these days and go wheeling with me! Or lake powell, it's by far my favorite place on this earth!

Why thank you! My actually does not have a PML just a shackle in the rear, it even's out with the extra weight I have in back with my box. I just trick the front plastic a little bit back using a band saw, nothing to big and tires fit perfect! But they are 31" x 10.50" however compared to my buddies 33" x 12.50" they seem to look more like 32's. Though in reality like most wheels they are actually smaller! If you want a picture of the trimming I will grab you one!
JaXTerra 11-17-2008, 12:42 PM Nice pics and write up! Do you realize how good you got it in Utah?
NateDawgG 11-17-2008, 01:12 PM Great pix man! I can't decide if I wanna go with the black or the grey Schrock bumper, but after looking at this thread I'm thinking grey.
vandebogart 11-17-2008, 01:28 PM Nice pics!
Roryo513 11-17-2008, 04:54 PM I love that X!
Keep posting the pics, everytime I see more, my dreams come that much closer to reality.
aznboihoy03 11-17-2008, 06:00 PM wow! very nice pix bro!
DaveC 11-17-2008, 06:00 PM Great pics man. That's one good looking Xterra!

Pics would be great, thank you. That's the size of tires I want to go for 31/10.5/r15 BFG ta ko. At the moment I only have a front end of PML done, shackles on the way though. Another question, how those stock torsion bars hold with the weight of shrock front bumper? Not sagging too much? Thx.
azbumblebee 11-17-2008, 06:36 PM Great looking truck, well thought out mods. Gen 1, Gen 1 1/2 or Gen 2 any X is better than the rest! :wink-big:
A nice wallpaper for everyone! More to come!

tameroflions 12-01-2008, 09:43 AM yet you say youre not a photographer....maybe you should be!
Haha thank you! I have been getting alot of that lately, my dad was saying the exact same thing yesterday Daniel. I have a couple more shots from this same spot but at different angles I will post later.
Steeze 12-01-2008, 10:49 AM Ya man you definitely have a sick looking rig... Utah represent
TN4x4Xterra 12-01-2008, 02:05 PM very nice wallpaper
vandebogart 12-01-2008, 08:48 PM Damn thats a good picture! lol
Well guy's my Xterra is officially 3" Lifted! And it looks amazing! I but I wont have pics for a few days because of work and the fact I don't see day light when I work! But I will get some pics up soon for everyone to see and enjoy. But until then here is another great wallpaper pics for everyone!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_1772.jpg
DaveC 12-02-2008, 06:52 AM Congrats on the 3" lift!
Silver Dude 12-05-2008, 04:43 AM Pics pics I wanna see.
Great great mods up to this point. I'm certainly going for a similar build.
Utah to man I vacation there every year in Moab. I'm putting more mods into my X just for this years trip. Them back roads are just so so much fun.
Alright here are some pics of the 3" inch lift, well actually to be a little more precise its 2" in the front and 3" in the rear. My buddy Tyler from Rollover Motorsports did an awesome job and did the Alignment him self and got everything in spec and just perfect! He even gave me a picture chart showing the old and new specs for the alignment, and because he didn't crank my T-Bars all the way I still have an extra inch of down travel which wont put too much strain on the CV's. I am very happy with the way it turned out and actually it feels smoother then ever before... I guess the T-Bars and the front shocks weren't the 20% stiffer ones... So that will help me while I am out prerunning the desert, now I need wider tires to help offset the higher center of gravity or just some wheel spacers.

Now for a little something on the sad side, my great companion and best friend... my dog Kuma is actually in the Vet's ER for the last two nights with big heart problems which seemed to come out of no where! It's be really hard on me and my family though my mom and dad are constantly talking about putting him down if it comes to surgery, I really don't want that to happen... I am really hoping he will get well enough soon to come back home so I can take him out on a few more adventures before it's his time to go.
But to try a lighten things up a bit I will post a few nice pics up from last saturday! Large pics sorry if that's a strain your internet.
The little hidden lake bed we found, and yes there are tracks to it but they were pretty old and mostly grown over.

Shooting my dad's Walther P22 with laser sight, I love this thing I plan to get one as soon as I get concealed carrying permit this next month or two. Not much for protection but with how accurate this thing is and how fast you can unload the shots on target without missing you could do some serious damage to an attacker fast!

TN4x4Xterra 12-06-2008, 08:54 AM Dude, I'm enjoying your pics as always!
Liking the 3" lift!
Is that Calmini UCAs you have?
I've been meaning to ask you but keep forgetting...the shrockbar...the center hoop, you can see the top part of the hoop from your drivers seat? Does it bother you?
Sorry about KUMA and I'll be keeping you and your family in mind for Kuma's quick recovery...
vandebogart 12-06-2008, 03:39 PM Nice pics as always alex!

Yes it is the Calmini UCA's I got them from lmhin2003, he shipped them out and I had them like 2 or 3 days later, they were in prefect condition! And I have no problem with calmini stuff at this point for suspense in the long run I want the total chaos kit though.
The shrockworks prerunner bar you can barely see unless your head hits the roof and even then it's not too tall. It is really nice to see it because I can judge how close I can get to something and I kind of like it, just makes my X feel tough!
Unfortunately we put Kuma down yesterday morning, it was a hard day for the whole family. Other then my dad we were all crying, he was very much a part of our family and my dad wouldn't pay for surgery or even think about trying to help further. It was really sad to see his lifeless body especially when I was the only one in the room. But I am doing better today and I have decide my Xterra is officially the tribute to Kuma! I will be aiming next year to paint my X Night Armor gray with semi gloss black on the sides and hood. And maybe a large vinyl KUMA along the rear at 45 degree angle is my plan now.
My dog was my motivation to get out explore, have fun, adventure and just kind of do things for my self. So my X will follow the this as my reminder of Kuma. I always thought that if the world came to an end me and Kuma would cruise around in my X trying to survive sorta like "I am legend" but not with stupid zombies, I know it sounds dumb but that's always been a part my dreams. Since day 1 of my X I wanted to go out camping just me and kuma in the middle of the mountains but everytime I would try something came up, I was never able to take him. I had been hoping this coming spring I would! But I guess not now =(
json3904 12-08-2008, 07:28 PM sorry to hear that kuma......
DaveC 12-08-2008, 07:32 PM Sorry to hear about your dog man. It's always hard to lose a pet especially when they're such a big part of your day to day lives.
As always, I love the pics and the Xterra looks great. I think your plans for it as a tribute to Kuma is fantastic. Absolutely go for it with that one...that would be a great tribute.
TN4x4Xterra 12-08-2008, 08:17 PM Alex, I'm sorry about Kuma....
I think your tribute to Kuma is the fantastic idea I've ever heard and you should do that in honor of your dog since he was a biggest part of your life and motivation.
Just always cherish the memories you have with Kuma b/c they will always be with you forever, regardless.
tameroflions 12-08-2008, 09:16 PM man, i saw that on your facebook status about kuma. im sorry for your loss, and i think youre doing an awesome thing w/ the tribute. i look forward to seeing more from you!
glazener24 12-09-2008, 12:19 AM Sorry to hear about Kuma, man. It's never fun losing a pet, especially if you spend a lot of time together.
kriskool123 12-14-2008, 05:16 PM damm bro those pics make me wanna go off roading there to terrain look sick!!
Sorry to hear about your buddy, hang onto the good times you had together and it'll get better over time.
atekt 12-19-2008, 02:37 PM Hey Alex, sorry to hear about Kuma. Thats brutal man, I cant imagine losing my Dog right now :(
On the plus side, your X looks killer. Lets get out and test out the lift :)
munkman 12-19-2008, 05:41 PM It's a tough time when it comes down to deciding between paying loads of money for surgery some other expensive operation or putting the dog to sleep. On one hand your dog is as much a part of the family as any one else almost (sometimes more!... yeah my siblings can be a pain sometimes). And on the other hand you have the rest of your family finances to consider and the quality of life factor for your dog. This summer we had to put my childhood dog, Pearl, down and it was incredibly tough for me, and even more for my mom who had to make the choice. I'm just saying I feel your pain man. I sure hope we can be with them in heaven.
I think that's pretty cool that you're making your X a tribute. My brother just got a vanity plate for his car after his dog.
Take care

On one hand your dog is as much a part of the family as any one else almost (sometimes more!... yeah my siblings can be a pain sometimes). And on the other hand you have the rest of your family finances to consider and the quality of life factor for your dog. This summer we had to put my childhood dog, Pearl, down and it was incredibly tough for me, and even more for my mom who had to make the choice. I'm just saying I feel your pain man. I sure hope we can be with them in heaven.
I think that's pretty cool that you're making your X a tribute. My brother just got a vanity plate for his car after his dog.
Take care
That is exactly how I feel, my parent's wouldn't let me put any money in for surgery they said he has to go tuition so it was all on my parents. And they are freaking out about money right now, which is ironic because of the position they are in. But oh well sometimes you just have to let go. Sad day, I feel for you to Chad, sorry to hear about your dog man =(
Hey Alex, sorry to hear about Kuma. Thats brutal man, I cant imagine losing my Dog right now
On the plus side, your X looks killer. Lets get out and test out the lift
Absolutely Bryson! We need to get out there! This snow is killer here, so the question is what are we going to do for a winter run?
atekt 12-20-2008, 11:48 AM That is a very good question! Any suggestions?
Well most likely desert! We could run some cool places, but it would have to be an all day run just for your knowledge. Have to get started around 9 and if we dont want to stay out in the dark we will have to begin heading back about 4 but we should be fine with mine and my dad's lights, I have everyday off after christmas until like the 30th so if you wanna go over the holiday weekend just let me know!
atekt 12-22-2008, 06:47 PM Im down for an all day desert run! Hit me up on my email or phone and we can talk about it more
clow2688 12-22-2008, 08:07 PM damnnn you guys wish i lived in the rockies.... me and my brother are planning (hoping) on moving out there in the next 2 years (breckenridge, CO).. sometimes i dream of trailing the X through the mountains hahaha.... til now im stuck in florida, with no hills. no snow. no fun lol... kuma your ride is sick by the way, and my bro owns the same pistol
TN4x4Xterra 12-22-2008, 08:31 PM I wanna go to Utah sooo bad.....
Welp just got home from my girlfriends, we got a HUGE storm tonight! I was getting off the freeway next to the mall and it was raining as soon as I went through the light it turned to hail but more like snow that was just quick falling and literally before I even got to the other side of the mall there was snow covering the ground almost 1/4 inch thick! It was amazing! I drove to my girlfriends after to give her, her gift and ended up stopping on a steep hill that about 8 or 9 cars completely either came to a stop on or lost all traction and just about caused some accidents... Funny thing was the majority of them were BMW's and the sad thing was there is absolutely no spot to tow rope them with, the undersides were plastic covered and checked everywhere! We either pushed them back down the hill or pushed them up the hill.... It was amazing! Here's a few pics sorry my camera was about dead after that night, I wish I could have gotten more!
The snow you see here in the middle of the road is 1 foot deep or more! No Joke! This is located by the canyon's and gets alot more then the rest the valley usually gets. The tracks you see in the road were actually a foot deep as well and it seemed like they hadn't been driven on for a few hours but it was more likely about 20 minutes or 30 minutes ago.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/My%20Xterra/IMG_1880.jpg
My neighborhood about 9 inches deep!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/My%20Xterra/IMG_1897.jpg
Blurry but I wanted one... This road was recently plowed about 20 minutes before I drove on it.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/My%20Xterra/IMG_1888.jpg
Pic's of the X at home... Dad probably snowblowed the drive about 2 or 3 hours ago, it's just not as deep as the main road.

Tire's work wonders, they are at about 20 psi right now and are great for deep stuff, I did have to drive home with 4 wheel drive high, and never had a problem getting moving or getting grip... It was midnight at the time and I drove around looking for anyone in need of help but everyone is either asleep or 4 wheel drive already.
Tomorrow hopefully there will be more, I like finding people to help! Especially in the deep stuff before it get's plowed. We will see when I wake up and if so my camera will be ready!
Hope everyone had a good christmas, I got a few new additions... Here's what I got, I will post pics later.
* Viair Compressor (Portable unit) I plan to make some quick disconnects for the front and back bumper so I don't have to open my hood to hook up the power cables to the battery.
* Quickfist Rubber Mounts 1" and 2" for flash lights and an Axe or Shovel
* Gerber Axe
* Walther P22 for bunny hunting or just shooting and self protection (I know 22 cal wont do much but it is enough shots in 1 clip and easily accurate enough to do serious damage to an attacker) need to make a holster and maybe a small gun safe inside the X, when not being used
* LED Lenser flash light, absolutely one of the most incredibly bright lights I have ever seen for a single LED with only 1 battery!
And maybe in the future I will get myself a christmas gift.... most likely some Hella FF75's for the top and back and HID kits for all my lights.
buckethead47 12-26-2008, 06:29 AM woot for snow!!! my new rims and hubs are coming so i can go play in the snow soon too!

SwiftT5389 01-11-2009, 10:59 AM damn just read bout the snow storm and how you were talking about The Canyons and stuff. Thats sweet, I have been to Park City a couple times. Been to Park City resort, snow basin, damn how i want to go back.
The year before last I went to Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico, that was a blast.
Crazily, we just got around 10 inches of snow yesterday here, its so fun driving in it!
Just want to add some old pictures in for the heck of it... I will try and keep this thread updated every several weeks with some new or old pics! :D
Back when I first put on the bumper, kind of dont like it without lights :P

Also I will aim to change the front page again with links to all the mod's I have done and I am hoping all the four wheeling trips but we will see.
hodge-x 01-21-2009, 07:17 PM dude youa x is what i am basing my build off of....i use yours as a benchmark lol....i got the same color and everything...so dont be surprised when you have a east coast twin lol truck is awesome keeps up the good work man...you got some awesome pics! one day i will catch up lol one day
Roryo513 01-21-2009, 08:33 PM I voted you XOTY for a good reason. That X has more stories to tell then a lot of people do. What do you think Kuma would say if he could talk?
I canno wait to hear of "More Epic Adventures of Kuma". You should change the name of your post to "Kuma, the Odyssey of the Ever Lasting Nomad"
or maybe not, Either way, Your X is still my favorite.
Alpha 01-21-2009, 09:40 PM Dude you're Xterra is awesome!
Why not some bigger tires... maybe 33s?
Definitely an inspiration to everyone on the board :)
and great pics!
Cheers :)

Haha love to hear it! I would love to have a twin on the east coast, but eventually I may repaint mine, though your welcome to follow in the those footsteps too! :D

HAHA that is awesome! I like that title! Maybe change the nomad part oOoOooo I could change it to "The last of the kuma's" kinda like the last of the mohicans or something :P Thank you for voting for me, I was really wondering who else voted for me, I really appreciate it! It's awesome! Ps I love your signature!

Actually I want too! The next time I buy tires, which I want to be soon but I am not sure, I will be buying 33 x 12.50 either Cooper SST's or Dick Cepek's again and I would also like to get some KMC XD Series XD795 Hoss wheels.
The other thing is I am going to try and fit them without a body lift... Impossible right? Actually no, it requires a little trimming and maybe removing the plastic from behind the front wheels and making sure the torsion bar's are cranked all the way with my 3" lift. Should make a huge difference! I would gain close to 3" of clearence in the front possibly if I did that...
TN4x4Xterra 01-23-2009, 12:12 PM Actually, I voted for you for XOTY too...
Why? I like what you have done with your X and want mine to be similar to yours (maybe not identical twins lol but close enough with some uniques)
Plus you have amazing stories to share with us of your trip to Utah outback country....that gets my attention EVERYTIME!
Keep posting those pics!
hodge-x 01-23-2009, 09:27 PM ok so maybe paternal twins is a better fit ha ha

Thanks for the vote man! I voted for you this last time for xterra of the month, I think it was december's (?) Thanks I hope to really get some good full story's this coming year as well as lots of video's! If I can get my friend who is doing a lot with making his own while in college we will try to make some video's to music with each trip we do!
ok so maybe paternal twins is a better fit ha ha
Totally! Besides every X is unique! Well at least the non-stock ones like us! But we can all be brother and sister X's! A few twin's too!
The paint I have decided is the color for the new dodge challenger, it's called "Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl" it looks black almost but in the light it's metallic with an almost gray tint very beautiful paint job! Honestly if you want to see why I like it so much you NEED to see it in person! So sometime go look at the new dodge challenger in this color when it's a nice bright blue sky day and when the car's are clean and you will see why I like it. Also hood on my truck and the side's where the indenting line is will a semi gloss black to cut down on glare and give some flare! :D Just need $$$ now for something like that!
hodge-x 01-25-2009, 10:46 PM i drive past a dealership with one every day....thats going to look super nasty! just almost too nice too wheel....almost
So we had some crazy fog on friday night! It was amazing it would get some dark and foggy in some spots I could not see my headlights! So what did I do? Pictures of course but since it was night some of the pic's didn't turn out well with my little camera. But enjoy!

vandebogart 01-26-2009, 01:04 PM Sweet pics Alex!
hodge-x 02-22-2009, 01:42 PM silence on this page for almost a month....oh man is somthing on the burners?
TN4x4Xterra 02-23-2009, 05:58 PM Yeah...what's up with that??!!?! ;)
Lol something is brewing! Just you wait and see! But want to know what I am currently contemplating in the coming month?
hodge-x 02-24-2009, 09:21 AM yea i am super curious!!! hint hint hints.....surprises are fun.....dont gotta let the cat outa the bag...only its tail so to speak
TN4x4Xterra 02-24-2009, 03:06 PM x2 on what Hodges said! ;)
Well I will give you the first of my projects that I am currently thinking about and believe it or not but I am thinking about sanding down all my bumpers and sliders and repainting them... Sound's boring right? How about this...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/346506737_l.jpg
No I am not going with a pansy jeep liberty! Eeewww keep your mind our gutter! But notice the bumpers color? Metallic silver! I am to repaint all my bumpers with this and heavy coat of possibility of thick laquer or something to give it that ultimate finish! Why? Well my bumpers have begun to rust after all this salt and snow and it drives me crazy! Along with that I may rhino line (not herculiner) the undersides of front and back bumpers and my sliders for the ultimate rock protection!
However if that means I am taking all powdercoating off the shrock does that mean I might make a few light holes and modifications? Possibly! We will just have to see ;)
Other mods will remain a secret for the time being but I will hit a roof rack gobi style but custom made might be in the future as well!
Steeze 02-24-2009, 08:55 PM Sounds Crazy!
Im stoked to see all the stuff you come up with.
Keep us posted man.
hodge-x 02-24-2009, 09:32 PM i think the paint will look sick!!! tho after seeing rhino lined bumpers and sliders i think if your dragging the sliders alot that touching it up is going to be a pain...if not then its going to look nasty!!!! either way keep us posted!!! all your projects come out awesome!!
DaveC 02-24-2009, 10:06 PM That'll all look killer! I just went back and saw the pics of the snow you guys got...and...I hate you :mocking:
Looking forward to more updates as usual.
TN4x4Xterra 02-25-2009, 11:11 AM Whew....you had me scared for a minute with that nasty looking ugly liberty.....thought I was gonna have to fly down to SLC and beat you with a antenna whip lol jk.
I like your idea about the paint job! I'm kind surprised that the Shrock is already rusting from the salt esp with that powdercoating?!?!? I better wash my sliders off soon....
I like your idea about the paint job! I'm kind surprised that the Shrock is already rusting from the salt esp with that powdercoating?!?!? I better wash my sliders off soon....
Yeah I was too! I think there is a few spots where the bolts meet my skidplate that worn off the powdercoating and that is where I see the most rust, also around the actual words shrockworks! Kinda sad to see rust on my truck but our winters are pretty damn harsh on vehicles! So I guess we can call this spring cleaning for offroaders!
Oh and just to show you what I woke up to almost every night or day it snowed take a look at this! It's like 2 to 3 inches of snow and when I took this picture my truck only had been sitting there for maybe 2 hours.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_1875.jpg
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/IMG_1879.jpg
hodge-x 02-25-2009, 04:31 PM damn you guys get hit pretty good eh......i guess i am not the only one who has to deal with winter salt!!! its crazy i hate it!!!!
TN4x4Xterra 02-25-2009, 05:37 PM Agreed with you guys. The winter salt is NOT your friend!
I think this weekend, I will give my X an good bath and wash off any salt residue from the last couple weeks that I've neglected to wash off due to the cold....
But dang it, Alex, I want THAT kind of snow! Not some slushy snow, lol!
Trust me you don't want that kind of snow! It's horrible for 3 to 4 straight months! And it's only fun one day of each of those months then the rest of the days the snow turns black from the salt and dirt. First snow fall is always pretty and everything else is really gloomy it's easy to get winter depression! Everyone in utah will tell you that's about the one bad side to living here. But as soon as the rain's come and wash it all away the city and landscape is sooooo clean and pretty it's beautiful! You have to have down's to get the up's right? Lol
So I cleaned Project: KUMA today got him all detailed it was too cold to begin any kind of painting but very perfect blue clear sky's and sunshine but way toooooo cold! So mod stuff will begin shortly in the next week or two!
Got all my debt's paid off except for the truck still owe about 5k on it but it's going fast now with bi-weekly payments. I had a tough time because I got my tax return and had told azbumble bee I would buy a baja rack which I want soooooo badly! Sadly I knew I would just be in a bigger hole and would have been worried to have more debt still.
And to make it even harder I really need new wheels and my tires are starting to get to the end of their life... It looks like a lot still but it's going fast! Oh well at least now I can start saving, plus I got a new job position with almost a dollar increase which will definitely help! May try to pick up a second job this summer doing checking at a local grocery story who I use to work for... Maybe I can get some new tires wheels and baja rack when the next group buy goes around. If not then lots of little mod's :D
hodge-x 02-27-2009, 07:17 PM nice nice man!! sucks that its too cold still...i feel you on the\at...tho jersey is not as cold its still too nasty..today it was 50 and raining this weekend we will be getting snow...blah!!! and just keep on saving up! you will find some sick deals once you have spending money!!! craigs list it and just wait lol thats how i roll :)
TN4x4Xterra 02-27-2009, 07:21 PM I was going to give my X a good bath this weekend but they're projecting a rainy weekend and its already been pretty chilly here now and not to mention, I'm sick with a bad cold :( Bummer.
Anyways, just start saving your money, thats what I'm pretty much am doing and agreed with Hodges, keep looking Craigslist for good deal (we got a good deal on your secret mod from CL!) ;)
Will fill you more later on couple of ideas for my X! ;)
hodge-x 02-27-2009, 07:22 PM what is this damn secret mod!!!!!!!! you have mentioned it a couple times now!!!! GRRR!!!!!!!
TN4x4Xterra 02-27-2009, 07:25 PM what is this damn secret mod!!!!!!!! you have mentioned it a couple times now!!!! GRRR!!!!!!!

I don't know if SW VA is supposed to get as much this time (and that's unusual), it's supposed to stay mostly to the east of Charlottesville coming up through central NC and to the east. We'll see. You know how VA weathermen can screw everything up.
dinka07 02-28-2009, 09:02 AM lol Ima come visit you..I"ve never seen snow ever :*(
DaveC 02-28-2009, 09:07 AM lol...Richmond isn't the best place to visit then ;) Over the past 7 or 8 winters, we've had maybe an inch and a half of snow total for all 7 or 8 years combined.

Please do! I would be glad to show you around especially if you like offroading!
dinka07 03-02-2009, 08:04 AM i've never had the chance to do much off roading cause well there aint much to do here in tx...maybe one day though cause that would be sweet

I got lots more to do to my truck but I am leaving for spring break and am limited on time. Also I borrowed my moms car while I was waiting for the paint to dry and got an accident :( Pretty bad too! Damaged the whole front of the car and did very little to the other car. I will explain later and show some pics because I think its a good experience for everyone to see what happens to a car at 10 to 15 mphs. Compare that speed in a car and an suv and you will see a difference! I would have done a ton of damage had it been my shrockworks bumper though.
Screed 03-14-2009, 08:03 PM Sorry to hear about the accident...the bright side is your wheels look great!
TN4x4Xterra 03-16-2009, 02:22 PM Hope you were alright from that crash.
Wheels are looking awesome!
Have a safe spring break!
Well guy's I am officially in vegas right now! Woohoo! I spent the last 2 nights in Brianhead, UT with friends swimming and watching movies. Took the X and my friend took his mercedes. Trying to keep up with that at 80 to 85 mph's has been a pain in the rear... But we managed! I think I am going to get rid of the mudterrains and go with some BFG's for next time but they are doing miracles for a mud terrain, I must recommend Dick Cepeks to anyone who wants M/T's now. 1 year 1 month and I still have half the tread and it still drives as smooth as ever. A tiny bumpy maybe and a little loud but less then most mudterrains do. Anyways guys just giving you a heads up!
Well guys its been a while since I have posted anything up and hate to explain why but it wouldn't be right if I didn't other wise. After getting back from Vegas my parents freaked at me and said the X has to go because of money issues. My dad pulled out of storage my old truck and told me put a for sale sign on Project KUMA, so as of now its sitting out on state street ready to be sold :( Makes me want to cry!!!
And now I am driving my POS old truck which is kinda cool but really lame at the same time but its a 4 banger and gets pretty good gas mileage. Here some pics!

I painted the interior to match and my dad had gotten me bucket racing seats for my birthday a few years ago. Originally I wanted to turn it into a prerunner but figured the 4 cylinder didnt have enough power... Because my dad gave it to me for christmas when I was 16 and it was paid off he decided to keep in storage and use it as a little get around truck for himself when he wasn't driving his jeep or needed a pickup. He told me after high school I would have to buy my own truck and thats why I bought the X but now is sad times.
That stupid accident jumped my insurance through the roof and now my dad is pissed since he pays for it, now I have to pay for insurance myself, I have to pay the 500 deductible to have my moms car fixed and pay the ticket and now he isn't going to help me out with tuition anymore :( I wanna cry!!!!
Hopefully I can get a better job during summer and buy a newer 2nd gen xterra which I really really really want! Wish me luck boys I will definitely be keeping in touch. Just because I am losing the X doesnt mean you guys are losing me! I will have another Xterra as soon as I can! Even if I have to start from scratch again!
recon 04-01-2009, 12:25 PM wow, sad day for all xterra's :(
Happy April Fools day to you too KUMA.

But your wrong about that I do want a 2nd gen! I want a white one like this but with titan swap and titan uca and lca's maybe some lights on the bumper and roof lights with a gobi and I would be the happiest camper ever!

Steeze 04-01-2009, 07:47 PM Ya white FTMFW!
I really like the white grill and black emblem, it looks sick!
TN4x4Xterra 04-01-2009, 07:54 PM Alex....your story was a little bit farfetched on your part :D
Good try tho and way to spoil my idea!!!! LOL
pfffft. White is bland and plain.
Graphite Metallic!!!
:p
White with zebra stripes but rather then the traditional black stripes maybe some ghost style?
glazener24 04-02-2009, 01:38 AM For some reason when I think of trucks with zebra stripes the first thing that comes to my mind is Land Rover, maybe that's just me though...

Document the statement for what!?!? ;)
I know the answer that Keyz wants....its "April Fools at least I got 1 person!"
There we go! Problem Solved! :mocking:
Well guys I took the X in to the stealership to have them do a tune up on the AC, I got a coupon for $15 bucks they will check the cables and hoses and recharge the system and clean the condensor and everything. Well they come back like an hour later and say there is a hose that leaks and it will $344.00 to replace, the hose cost $14.00! WTF of course I said no way, with my experience I can do it or patch it.
To make it even better when I pay they charge me $88.00 for the whole thing like tire balancing and rotation and oil change and all this crap, I get a call when I get home and the guy was like oops my cashier charged you wrong sorry but we will get it fixed. WOW relief finally!
Also picked up some front clips for the front grille which cost about $36.00!!! Holy! But anyways stevin knows what they are for ;)
silverbullet 04-28-2009, 01:41 PM Which hose was leaking? High side from compressor to condensor? mine needs to be replaced and I'm gonna order it today. Thankfully I'm a tech so I have access to AC machines to do the work myself. I'd suggest replacing it though. The sealants sold for AC systems really don't work much if at all.

Notice how clean the suspension is!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/5-13-09/IMG_2850.jpg
Why is it so clean? Well Wednesday I spent the whole day removing the rack and cleaning and painting the entire underside of the X, minus the exhaust! :D More pics to follow!
PS - notice how my tire is angled, is that right guys? I kind of think because I have a 3" SL and it's only raised to the height of the PML at 1.5" it is angling it like that... I plan to adjust it just want to wait for money so I can get alignment done but what do you guys think? Is it maybe putting a little more wear and tear when it's at that weird slant?
Clean axle!

Thursday a few packages arrived! :D
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Baja%20Rack/IMG_2860.jpg
Hmmm what is it?
BAJA RACK!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Baja%20Rack/IMG_2861.jpg
This thing is incredible! I could not believe how organized and well arranged everything was!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Baja%20Rack/IMG_2864.jpg
Thanks to Azbumblebee for the awesome work in arranging for me to get one and especially to get it in time for GONEmoab. I will be doing a little promoting for Baja Rack's to show off their great new product! I will hopefully get a "How-to..."
on the install with instructions! :D
On with the pics!
Good packaging, paint scratches off easily though so I set it on towels, eventually I will add grip tape to the rack's floor.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Baja%20Rack/IMG_2870.jpg

It's a bit hard to lift on by yourself, it's not heavy at all! But it's just awkward because of size... I recommend getting a friend

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Baja%20Rack/IMG_2991.jpg
I will be getting a shovel and axe holder hopefully soon, which I look forward too! I will also be purchasing a hi-lift carrier so both sides will have something mounted. I feel like the sides look to plain without it and that it looks a lot better with something their. Also the front seem weird to me but I think it's mainly because the rack is a nice shiny black and my bumpers are a gray that tends to mesh with the rest of the truck so the rack kind of sticks out to your eye. My rear bumper will carry my spare Jerry can. And hopefully sometime soon I will be purchasing 2x Hella 700's and 2x Hella 500's for the front light bar and I will add it at that time... Oh and I got the stretchy bungie net which is great!
The rack is awesome and the quality is remarkable! I love this rack and can't wait to see how useful it is for moab, I will be putting the majority of stuff on the rack and it will be a great test for the new product. I HIGHLY recommend this rack, it's a lot more functional then the Calmini rack and butt loads cheaper then a Gobi! Definitely a MUST if you go camping!
I will try to post up the How-to before I leave but if not it will be after... If you want more pics or want to know something just let me know I got tons of pics!
Steeze 05-16-2009, 01:45 AM That's badass dude!
Real nice work!
vandebogart 05-16-2009, 12:44 PM Sweet rack!!
tameroflions 05-16-2009, 03:58 PM hey alex, i like your rack!:love-eyes-big:
Thanks everyone! I have noticed a lot of looks lately while driving. I think the black on top makes it stick out more then usual and it's catching peoples eyes!
Tonight I had an awesome encounter, will stopped at light on creek road at about 10:40. I was in the right lane and there was a silver Xterra was in the left turn lane, the X looked maybe like it had some larger tires then stock but I wouldn't say anything like lifted. He leaned over and rolled down his window and shouted "Hey do you go offroading?" and I was like "Yeah". Then he said "Are you going to moab next week?" I said "Yeah I am leaving tomorrow!" we both said "See you tomorrow" before leaving the light. I thought it was awesome to see someone and say Hi at a light and then find out they are going to GONE.
I also saw an orange X on vine today while heading to a friend with a black shrock front and Yakima crossbars on the roof. Maybe they will be going too, because I have never seen that X at that house before and I drive that street almost every day, could be someone visiting a friend or something. I am kind of hoping I will see them down there...
It looks GREAT!
Just trying to reconcile these two concepts:

Looking forward to hearing how it handles at GONE!
greentennx 05-20-2009, 08:06 PM looking good!

Hehe yeah, I may have to do some HEAVY DUTY mod's to it now, maybe make the rack open with the moon roof. But heck if I am doing that I might as well make the whole roof open and have some missle launchers come out!
your rig looks great kuma! love the idea of painting the underside... so how much paint fumes did you breath though? lol
Lol soooooo much I started getting a headache, I got a big fan and set it up on the front so it would blow everything out of the garage then I resorted to get a mask to wear, it worked though!
i saw your light bar in the box do you not have lights yet
No, sadly I need some!!! I felt naked at GONE without the lights.
Well guys GONE was a BLAST!!!! I cannot wait to go next year! I am planning on going all week though, this week I couldn't stay the whole time but I had some fun. I met Kevin aka Alpine Spirit, Andrew aka Odin, Josh from NCCX, McCampa (cant remember if that's spelled right) and tons of others!!! Everyone was so chill, and the whole thing was totally one of the best weeks ever! I need to learn the names of everyone and then try and remember what their rig is.... I apologize if anyone is reading this and I didn't mention you, I am way out of it right now after a long hot day of driving!
I will post up pictures soon! :D
PS - Thank you everyone at GONE!

If anyone know's his name please let me know! What a sharp looking truck, I love the red with the tinted windows and charcoal grey wheels.

Doug and I tended to kind of push each other, or maybe it was just him talking me into doing anything... Either way we had fun ever time we stopped and watched the others.

Face plant! It was a loud hit too, and he was just laughing. The whole trip the spotters tried everything to get him to roll. I wish I could have stayed longer to see if anyone accomplished it.

The rest to be continued! Enjoy and please comment!
vandebogart 05-22-2009, 08:03 PM Sweet pics!!
Nice pics Alex. We're about to show some here at the condo. Too bad you couldn't make it out these last two days. Been a lot of fun and nice to meet you guys.
CristofoliniX 05-23-2009, 01:40 AM figures, you would only remember the chicks name haha.
Silver Dude 05-23-2009, 02:14 AM Did you have to take a strap on fins and things? or have any difficulty? I've been wanting to go but I only like going to Moab in September (when it's cooler out) so I can bike. I'll most likely be solo, bad I know, hey run them or don't those are my choices. I road Hells revenge last year in a rental, with some XRRC guys, I'm tossing around the idea of doing it in the X this year if I can get a locker.

Oh man I was dying today! I was thinking I should just drive out there for the BBQ I really really wanted too! I wish I could have been there, I bet the pics and videos were awesome! Do tell about any stories I missed please! And tell me you at least got one pic of your truck with that window paint! By the way what happened with Kevin's truck? Did you get revenge?
figures, you would only remember the chicks name haha.
Haha funny but it's because my girlfriend was getting to be real good buds with her I guess and kept mentioning how much she liked hanging out with stephanie... I know one of these nights his name will pop in to my head.

I never had to strap! :D I do have the LSD though so that made great improvement... The washout was the hardest part and thats where I believe almost everyone got strapped. Josh the trail leader said 2 tries and if you don't do it then we are strapping you. Mccampa did it 1 and I took 3, the first 2 were just from the wrong angle and Josh told me to just get my truck lined up and bump it which I did and got right up there. The rest I climbed like a champ, a few times I had the people infront of me or behind me get out and tell me I made it look to easy or that it must not be challenging for me but I just laughed not know what to say...
Hells Revenge is actually really easy and you can run it without the locker, sometimes you will need to take the bypass but don't do it by yourself! Infact though I believe the Utah Xterra Owners Club is planning to go down the end of September to the first week of October so if you go then you can always join the other X's! :D
Next up more pictures!
We did have a few stock vehicles which did a lot better then I thought!

I could have done it but decided against it since my steering isn't upgraded and I was worried about that...
This is where things got hairy! Alot of people were 3 wheeling right here and Josh looked at me and said "Meh you don't need the help, just go for it!" So I did and I did pretty good!

Josh on the crazy hill that a lot of people even ones who were not locked decided to do... I didn't do it because the gf was in the car didn't want to walk all the way around and she was a bit nerve racked about this part.

More to come tomorrow! :D
The reason that wash on Fins was bad is that it was covered with sand. I made it up but had to bump it pretty good. I need a locker! I think the hardest thing about Fins if you've never ran the trail is that you can't see where you're going over some of it so it's unnerving until you either have someone spot you over or get out and look to see where it goes.
But you don't need a locker for Hells Revenge if you skip the optional stuff. Even if you skip the optional stuff it's such a fun trail. There's a few places where longer wheel base trucks will scrape and a few "oh shit!" descents, but if you do Fins before Hells if you've never been, you'll be used to it.
I did Fins N Things, Hells Revenge, Flat Iron Mesa and Metal Masher and didn't need to be strapped at all - though I skipped some of the harder obstacles like tip over challenge on Hells and Widowmaker - got some great video of a couple of Colorado guys going up that one - it's NUTS! I'd have to be winched over it.
I did get revenge on Kevin - wrote in that window paint on the inside of his driver window, and then completely covered the outside so you couldn't read the inside so when he washed it off it would still have the inside writing lol. No pictures as I left at like 4AM that day to go to Arches for some pictures.
There is a cool video a guy put together and showed - I will have a cool (hopefully) video up after a week or so of going through the 30GB of video I took lol.
I won a really nice kinetic yanker strap in the raffle and a subscription to Nissan Sport Mag.
CristofoliniX 05-23-2009, 05:14 PM who's the dude with the '09 Off Road red X?

Yeah he got revenge... LOL. It was a long night and there was purple all over everything including the headlights and I couldnt see out the drivers window so I took it to wash it off before the police would try to pull me over. After getting everything wet i went back around and began to really wash it all off.... spraying and spraying most came off and then I looked again... written inside... "Good Morning". I just laughed.
Kuma Great to meet you, wish you could have stayed longer!

Haha that is awesome! I would love to see those arch pictures and especially to see that video sometime! I forgot about the raffle, I didn't win anything did I? Who won those tires?
who's the dude with the '09 Off Road red X?
That is Jeff aka Jeff_RedX on TheNewX forum, he had sliders on the 09 which looked pretty sharp if you ask me!

LOL that is one of the best thing's I have ever heard of! Much better what my girlfriend told him to do with just covering the inside and outside! Haha, it was really great to meet you too Kevin! I had a great time and you can count on me to be there next time for the FULL week! And maybe I will stay in those condo's so I can see all the fun going down :D
Decided to stop posting pics from goneMOAB in here and keep it mainly for pics of my truck so I will post a few here and there from moab but try not of other vehicles and instead keep that for other threads.
However I do have some updates for everyone!

Also will get backup lights on tomorrow and then start aiming to get an axe and shovel holder and hi-lift carrier for the rack soon!
PS - I am thinking about using duplicolor black bumper paint and just painting over my shrockworks front, rear, and sliders because I decided I am no longer a fan of the gray with my new roof rack. Any thoughts on this?
Other thought is MAY sell these bumpers and have my buddy help me build tube bumpers to save on weight and give me more protection even in the rear, I will get rid of the plastic and do a wrap around tube bumper without swing arm or maybe 2 swing arms... If I did this though the buyer would have to pickup locally. I was reading something saying that tube bumpers are 33% stronger then plating and weight lots less. So I am thinking about it but maybe I am just crazy!
TN4x4Xterra 05-28-2009, 11:55 AM Your roof rack looks good! Especially with those lights!
You are crazy for painting the front black! Afterall, THAT was the reason I wanted to get the exact same style for mine to match up with the green/gray color! lol.
DIBS ON THE REAR BUMPER! Even tho I'm not local, lol.
I would hate to see you lose the front bumper but I'd be interested in seeing the tubing style for your rear though. Seems to me that the front would offer more protection for critical components aka radiator, etc and on all around than tube bumper would but thats just my thoughts tho.
silverbullet 05-28-2009, 11:57 AM Looks SICK Alex!
Steeze 05-28-2009, 01:40 PM I say sell them and do a tube bumper set-up... that would be sick
MidWest_Surfer 05-28-2009, 01:42 PM the lights look sick dude, hey how much room do you have between the back of the light and the front of the wind deflector thing, enough for some daylighters?

Roryo513 06-22-2009, 01:06 AM Hey man!
If you get a chance, could you hook me up with some night pictures of your lights on? (assuming you got them wired up). Just like a picture with all your lights on, so that I could see how much they light up. I have alwase thought those kinds of pics were cool.
Dont run outside and do it now, but next time its convienent when you have your camera on you at night, I think it would be really cool.

Agreed.
LACamper 06-22-2009, 04:53 PM Very nice thread! I wish we had some rocks to play on here. All we have is swamp and mosquitoes (the food and night life here makes up for some of it... I'm just outside New Orleans). Almost no snow. We had a few inches last year - first time since 1989 - and it literally shut down the city.
Don't go pickin' on rangers! I've had 3 and all held up beautifully (200K miles on 2, then someone totalled my last one a few weeks ago- which is how I ended up with an X). Not exactly great for offroad, but then again off road down here usually involves a boat or at least divers and a tow truck!
Did you get a new dog yet?
Kahuna 06-25-2009, 06:30 AM Nice X. Keep em comin
MuddyBananna 06-25-2009, 08:42 AM the picture where you said your friend cant take pictures. is kinda sweet cause all you can make out is your license plate Kuma :P.
I apologize I haven't gotten night shots for you guys, I have been dealing with a gf who seems to be having mood swing's lately so it has put me on a rollercoaster myself in how I have been feeling and I just haven't done much with my X until today when I took it to guardsman pass and then over to heber and back in 3 hours. PS - she apologized when I got back and so everything is great now but I just haven't been in the mood for much lately. I will get you shots asap though!
So what have I been up too? Well I am thinking about starting a club for vehicles but I can't really reveal much but I will say it's not replace or compete with any other clubs but to kind of aim to start a revolution :D I will give you guys more details later!
json3904 06-28-2009, 03:01 AM well glad to have you back.. LOL

Dude, I totally know how you feel on that one....my last relationship ended abruptly that way because of the mood swings she was having and those rollercoaster rides took its toll on me and she started getting worse mood swings (to the point where she was being a bitch everytime we went out) and that pretty much ended it when she had her last fit and I just got in the X and left for good in midst of the argument at her house. Haven't really looked back since but I do get occasional emails/texts from her wanting to "hang out" but I typically don't answer back because I've had to listen to her bitching the last few times prior to the break up and I'm sure it won't be any different now lol.
Anyways, Glad you guys were able to work it out and I wish the best for you guys though!
Now get some darn pics up! :mocking: lol
Alright Ladies! Oh.... and Gentlemen! :D I finally got pics of your request! I've decided I am really bad at getting your request, sorry!
So July 3rd we decided to take some friends and visit the top of Big Cottonwood canyon, travel down Guardsman Pass and then from Heber to the back side of Tibble Fork. Stopped and went up Forest Lake Trail which is insanely hard compared to what it use to be when I first started doing it stock but it only took 30 minutes to get to the top where we made a fire and then came back down with all lights on... Headed back down Tibble Fork to American Fork canyon which leads to Utah County and then back home! We left at 5 pm and got home at 12:30! Pretty good I would say :D Here's Pics!

Okay what you have been waiting for... Unfortunately without a tripod my camera sucks for this! So I can get better ones... Also I think I discovered that my 2 big Hella 700's in the middle are fogs not spots which sucks! But I couldn't get any distance shots because my camera wouldn't take the pic unless I was looking at the lights or unless I used the flash which limited the range on the picture :( I will borrow Carmen's SLR camera next time and get some range pics probably this coming weekend. But here is shots at night...

The lights worked great but I discovered quickly that the roof ones needed to be moved forward about 2 inch to keep the glare of the windshield which will be my next project.
On the way back we saw tons of dear so I was driving the whole back to the city with my front 2 offroad lights and we saw about 5 or 6 female deer and right when we were talking about it we saw a male and because we were all looking at him I forgot to switch my lights when a truck went past. Turned out to be a ranger and he pulled me over :P He talked to me and asked for my information and if I had been drinking, one of the cops came back and asked what my license plate meant. So I told him it was Japanese for Bear and almost instantly he started talking Japanese to me and I was like uh.... My brother speaks japanese but I don't! We all laughed and they were really cool they asked me to fix my headlight and the broken tail light and said just turn off your brights when you see someone else and then we were back on our way. It was a fun filled night!

TN4x4Xterra 07-05-2009, 09:33 PM Dude, so freaking awesome pics! Man, I wish I was in the area cuz that would be fun to go crusading on weekends on places so close to your house! Here, we only have Windrock, and they're closed at sunset....which might not be a bad idea lol but seriously, keep up the pics!
Definitely jealous that you have roof lights but they look great!
astrozombie 07-05-2009, 10:00 PM That looks like a good time! That area is in my backyard and I still haven't been up that trail. I have always wanted to. Is that where the grave yard is and the old school house? I heard something about an old grave yard being up there across the river.
Steeze 07-05-2009, 10:01 PM Sweet pics Alex

I have not seen one, but I do know there is graveyard flat not to far away from it, the area was part of an old mining town which got hit by a pandemic and 11 children died and several adults something like 17 people. But no buildings remains as far as I have seen... Hey Astrozombie would you like to go four wheeling with us on the 24th? The Utah Xterra Owners Club is planning an unofficial trip up AF Canyon! I am probably thinking about camping on the 23rd and then wheeling with them the 24th. Just let me know!
Hey thanks guys! :D
astrozombie 07-06-2009, 08:16 PM Count me in man. That sounds like a good time!
Well guys I am sorry for not really getting on much lately! I had a little mishap with the radiator exploding on me right before I was suppose to go out for a full day offroad adventure. I have since been treating burns and a blister on my shoulder and dealing with a girlfriend who decided to go on break with me right before my birthday! It hasn't been fun lately and life has some what sucked! No four wheeling, hardly seeing my girl and a birthday that was spent on fixing my truck (yes I am very grateful for!) but luckily things have changed around now and thing's that were bad took a 180 and now it's back to getting on top of things. Sorry to all those that I haven't replied too or talk, especially stevin! Sorry man!
But hey next weekend I should be hitting up the canyon or the top of skyline drive with some good sunset pictures so look forward to it! ;) also got a new addition of a shovel and some stuff I will be painting in the next few weeks. My dad just bought a shop ;)
vandebogart 08-02-2009, 08:53 AM Well im glad everything has turned around, its good to see ya back Alex!
TN4x4Xterra 08-03-2009, 04:27 PM Hey bro, its no problem. Glad everything is getting better for you and that your X didn't suffer any major issues that needed to be taken to stealership.
Just shoot me an email whenever you have the time and we'll talk! Not sure if the Sunroof cover is still out there or not but take your time man and get your priorities worked out!
Hey Alex you seem to know some nice spots there in UT. Would be cool to come out and camp with ya sometime. I need to spend more time in Arches, Canyonlands and Bryce/Zion.

Well bud I got the number but I will have to give them a call when I can just been swamped lately. My buddy was trying to get me to move out with only a weeks notice which is impossible but I ended up telling him no. And I am working on some projects for doing some freelance webdesign. I will get to it though I promise, I am sorry I have kept you waiting, the X goes in to get the AC fixed tomorrow so no go since I wont have any transportation.

Absolutely Andrew (sorry if I get your name wrong, my mind isn't working today) you should absolutely come visit and we go do a little camping and four wheeling, I have no one to go with as of lately because friends are either breaking their rigs or not returning my calls. Kinda sucks to get off on saturday early and not be able to go four wheeling. Maybe you should come visit up north too some day there is some beautiful area's I can show you... Real photographer's dream pictures ;) but I have been lusting to get back down to southern utah asap!
TN4x4Xterra 08-12-2009, 02:33 PM Not a problem man. Just let me know whenever you got the time and we'll work out the details if they have it.
Tyler1281 08-16-2009, 09:10 PM Love the build. I have a lot of the same plans for my 07' off road X. I also have a dog named Kuma, and couldnt believe someone else does! Where in Utah are you located? I live in Midvale. It would be fun to go wheeling sometime.
Hey Tyler, I live in Murray! So we are practically back yard neighbors :D I live really close to fashion place. That is crazy you have a dog named Kuma! That blows my mind! What are the odds? We definitely should go wheeling sometime, I haven't been in soooo long!
Finally got sometime for the X this week! Rewired my lights taped all wires and covered them with accordian tubing or whatever that stuff is called... Got my shovel mounted and hi-lift to the roof rack. Got my jerry can on back and did a little painting on the inside the x! BUT no pics yet!
Why? CAMPING!!! Woooooot! I am leaving friday night with the girlfriend and 2 friends and we will be gone until sunday morning. Going to load everything on the roof and take lots of pics!
Sweet. I leave tomorrow morning. Camping Thursday-Sunday.
Utah_downshift 09-02-2009, 04:46 PM Where we going camping this weekend Kuma? With the bow hunt going on, and it being Labor day, its going to be packed wherever you go =p
Tibblefork is the plan! Wanna come? Well technically I am going up guardsman first night and second night at tibblefork... I imagine it will be packed but it's worth a try if nothing else I will go drive out to the desert and find a nice little place.
As promised pics!
First night headed out about 7 pm and hit the dark by the time we reached the peak of guardsman, headed down into midway with all lights on... Here's some night pics!

Don't be fooled the roof lights are like day light, I changed the 2 outside lights to give light on corners when I was going around the switch backs, and moved the large middle lights to give me lots of distance. It was amazing!
We ended up in heber after the campgrounds we were hoping to stay in was full and everywhere was closed by sonic so we ate late apparently but it was only 10 and the whole town was closed.
The next day we had to make our way pass swiss days and the sheep hearding dog competition that was going on, I swear all of SLC was there....

We saw the trail go all the way to the very peak of the mountain and I mean the VERY PEAK! but sadly we didn't continue do to time and trying to meet a friend who didn't end up getting there in time for us to four wheel. So we just turned around up the trail at this little collapsed building.

These are some the most amazing mountains ever! I love the view and the riddled with old and even current operating mines! Among these mountains are the granite quarries that the Mormon's got and moved by horse trailer 100 miles away to build the Salt Lake Temple (Each brick I think weighs about 3 - 4 Ton's if I remember right)

After checking back at tibblefork reservoir for my friend who didn't get there for an hour and I never saw on this trip we went and backtracked a little to go to Lake Forest Trail our favorite! They changed the name of the area to Shaffer Fork for the crossing I guess...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Camping%2009/IMG_5332.jpg
Sorry bad pic but found this secluded little area just enough away from the main trail but still on a branching off trail that gave us perfect protection but yet we could still hear rigs going up and down the trail all night and morning, didn't bother us though. Never saw any lights!

you were right by my grandpas silver mine haha awesome pics!!
Really so is it up by silver flat then? Lets really go up there sometime soon! I have lots of trails I can take you up and get some experience!
TN4x4Xterra 09-07-2009, 12:07 PM Man....I'm jealous....I love those pics!
Keep 'em coming!
Thanks guys! I sent in some pics to Bajaracks yesterday and John replied to me today saying thanks! So hopefully we will see my X up on their website someday! :D Took a little bit of time today to repaint my front grille which had some ugly markings left from the radiator mishap, also painted some interior pieces but pics for that will come later. And I gave the X a nice extra cleaning today.
Stevin the secret project has been giving me trouble I cant get the chrome off! I wish I could sand blast it off but plastic is too fragile... So mean time I am doing a few mods in which will involve some LED's!
PS I cracked my good tail light so its time to upgrade and I am not sure if I should try buying the LED ones from Ebay that are solid red. I like them other then it doesnt have the cool clear lense I like on our stock tail lights or should I just buy new stock tail lights. Tell me what you guys think...
Bostonaholic 09-09-2009, 09:19 AM Dude, the pics are amazing. That last set looked like a great trip. I wish we had mountains like that in Ohio.
I love the style camping you're doing. The wife and I are taking a camping trip in about a month--I wish it was as remote as yours, ours will most likely be in a campground...
TimRich 09-09-2009, 09:45 AM Awesome pics! I would actually go camping is it looked like that down here in FL...lol

That really sucks about the secret project but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you will do with the LEDs....we seem to be like LED addicts, haha.
As for the taillight, are you talking about this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-02-03-04-XTERRA-ALL-RED-LENS-LED-TAIL-LIGHTS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14Q QhashZitem45ee0ac0c9QQitemZ300346425545QQptZMotors Q5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
If so, the LEDs looks like it would show some but I'm not too fond of the solid red color especially for turn/backup lights parts....I think it would affect your visibility if you were to back up at night?
Yeah those ones I dont like it either so I may black them out but I am thinking in the future I might try to convert the lense on it to the modern style while keeping the LED part.
TN4x4Xterra 09-10-2009, 12:33 PM Yeah those ones I dont like it either so I may black them out but I am thinking in the future I might try to convert the lense on it to the modern style while keeping the LED part.
I know you could do that with the oven method?
TN4x4Xterra 09-10-2009, 04:39 PM Hey what about this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSAN-02-04-XTERRA-CHROME-SMOKE-LENS-LED-TAIL-LIGHTS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14Q QhashZitem48376d823eQQitemZ310167568958QQptZMotors Q5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Yes, a little pricey but you could smoke over them and leave the turn/backup lenses clear?
I thought about it! But look at the price compared to the red! I don't like how those 2 light sections are round that is lame! Why cant they make it like the stock ones but with the LED part? Dumb people! Oh well I will come up with something... After this I want to do HID Reflectors (orb style lights) for the front with the halo light wired to the fogs but then splice the wires so the halos can be turned on without the main light being on... Thats what I want the next mod to be but money will tell future!

Hahahaha! Sorry but you had me rolling when you mentioned dumb people about the circle lenses....I do agree with you though! haha! Its really not that hard to figure out that many people would actually buy them if it was like stock with a little LED upgrade! I know I would!
You really have me wondering about the setup of those HID Reflectors (Orb Lights)....I think an PM is in order to discuss that mod a little further to get a better idea, hahaha....
Speaking of HIDs....Have you heard of this old lightbar called Trailblazer? I wanted one LONG time ago but they were discontinued and now they're coming out with HID version...its still in production but its possible they will come out soon....expensive yeah but its HID!
www.nitefireUSA.com is the link....I MIGHT consider that for mine if I find a way to mount it and keep my loadwarrior on it....what you think?
CristofoliniX 09-11-2009, 10:37 PM Wait since when are '02 tail lights okay for 00/01's?
Silver Dude 09-12-2009, 01:04 AM Taillights are the same 2000-2004.
What are Orb lights?
Pretty much one of these! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROJECTOR-LEN-KIT-Angel-Eye-E46-M3-TSX-H4-D2S-HID-XENON_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQ hashZitem3ef56c6255QQitemZ270405493333QQptZMotorsQ 5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
And don't worry Stevin I will give you a PM real soon!
Silver Dude 09-12-2009, 02:41 AM Oh a reflector retrofit, very nice I've been considering the same thing for a while now. As much as I really want to tear into it, its just one of those jobs that has lots of money involved with permanent possible damage to the headlight. If I could time warp to the future and see that it works as it should, headlight has no leaks, aiming is correct, looks fantastic, man I'd do it in a heart beat. It's just that thought in my head of the headlights constantly full of condensation and aiming being garbage, causing me to drop another $100 on new ones, that's all that's holding me back.:)
TN4x4Xterra 09-12-2009, 11:54 AM I kinda have to agree with Silver dude on the headlights....unless I had a spare set from a totaled X that I could use it on and not worry about my own headlights, I'd be up for that mod with the orb lights....the orb lights does look killer tho!
Hey, whatcha think about that link I gave you for HID lightbar? I'm kinda waiting and see what their LED slimlight will look like though if they come out with it.
I think you are right! BUT I do infact have a second set of headlights! I will use my old ones to figure things and get measurements and stuff first then use my new ones when ready and keep the old incase I screw up. I like those Stevin I think it would be sweet to see the LED version. It would be cool if they fit within our stock bars. Tail lights should be here monday!
CristofoliniX 09-12-2009, 08:11 PM What lightbar's are you guys talking about?
Previous page posted by stevin at the VERY bottom! There is a link for http://www.nitefireusa.com/. Well guys I told the girlfriend I didn't want to go watch football games tonight (no offense but I just can't watch sports... I have to be playing to even remotely enjoy them) so I decided to get some cleaner wax and the buffer and get to work! I can officially say I have almost NO scratches anymore! It's really nice! Pics maybe maybe maybe tomorrow.
CristofoliniX 09-13-2009, 09:13 PM Holy crap, its an awesome light bar... but for $799?!
TN4x4Xterra 09-15-2009, 03:17 PM Holy crap, its an awesome light bar... but for $799?!
But its all HID technology!
I'm kinda hoping they will come out with LED slimlite version....now that'd be awesome rockin' that lightbar alongside with a cop cruiser that has a LED lightbar hahahaha!
CristofoliniX 09-15-2009, 09:49 PM Oh! I didn't know that it was HID. Jesus that's not a bad price then lol. And if they did ever come out with the LED version, that'd be frick'n awesome.
Got the new tail lights today, put them in and I am surprised they are alot higher quality then I thought! And they look surpisingly nice!
The box was in english though the news paper covering it was chinese.

Came with a brand new wiring harness which I didn't expect. I didn't use it because I would have to take off all the plastic on the interior to reach the wiring harness and unplug the clip. I just switched out the bulbs for the new ones and replaced the O-Ring's so they were fresh.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Tail%20lights/IMG_5385.jpg
Even has a new grommet!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Tail%20lights/IMG_5387.jpg
Talk about quality the little pin that goes in the clip is METAL! WOW! Never thought I would see that, even the stock ones are plastic...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Tail%20lights/IMG_5385.jpg
This is how the LED's connect looks like they used the base off a bulb and wired it all in... The turn signals and backup are standard bulbs not LED's.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/KUMA-26/Tail%20lights/IMG_5388.jpg
This is why I am replacing them, see the crack and how fogged up they are! Time for new! And yes both sides are like that!

My plastic clips came out with the stock lights and I couldn't get them off so I went and bought new ones for $2.

Unfortunately no night shots, my camera is broken and I cant get the flash off. Lame! Hopefully sometime thought I will get some!
What about reverse lights?
TN4x4Xterra 09-16-2009, 12:43 PM That looks good.....just wondering how well the reverse light will show with the red lenses on there.....you'll have to update on that!
BTW - what caused that dent by your gas door? Do Explain! :mocking: haha!
Reverse light is standard bulb and is the top of the half circle, I think the bulb is more then 35 watts because it puts out some seriously light when in reverse. I lit up the house behind me when I was backing out of the drive way last night. But I still don't feel confident enough with only my tail lights as backup lights, I will be adding some to my roof rack soon. As for the dent... Well let's just say I backed into my moms car and broke the mirror a little while ago. She was lower in the driveway then usual so I didn't think she was there and backed up into the middle of the drive way. I gotta really get some backup lights or camera or something because that is the 3rd time I have backed into something...
Oh I do plan to get paintless dent repair but I am waiting for my dad. I think he has some stuff he wants to get some dent's done as well! So we will see but I got another little dent on the other fender.
Character mark. Leave it. :p
TN4x4Xterra 09-16-2009, 02:04 PM Interesting.....when the lights light up in reverse, does it give that red glow from the red lenses? I'm curious to see some night shots of it whenever you get the chance to do so!
3 times!?!? Yeah, I think you need LED backup lights.....I think I will get a couple and mount them to my bumper someday when I get around to it.
I have a small round ding in the same area where your dent is lol.
Sorry no backup light pics I tried to take some but since my camera's screen is broken I cant tell when the flash is off. I tried for like a half hour last night. But here is something for you guy's to enjoy!

TN4x4Xterra 09-27-2009, 12:49 PM Nice background! Definitely should be in a catalog cover material!

Got up to silver flat lake and ran into 2 other xterra's coming down. One was a stock 1.5 gen (looked like colt411 but didn't take the time to see if the plastic was painted), other was a black 1st gen that had maybe 3" lift 31 - 33's not sure, homemade metal bumper, home made snorkel and a roof rack. Didn't get a chance to talk to them though we kept going and waved at each other. Though I wish I would have pulled over and talked to them... I have no idea who he is so if anyone knows please tell me!

Haha thanks man I have never ever thought about it that way! My only wish is that I had more fridays and saturdays off to go out wheeling and more daylight hours. But I must say always having friends and even girls to go with makes it sooooo much more fun!

Word of advice for you just because your truck isn't moddified it shouldn't hold you back from offroading. All you need is tires! Just get out there and go! Some of the toughest trails I have ever been on I did completely stock and I am glad I got out there and just did it rather then sitting like my friend Danny with his 2009 tacoma does and say how he needs a lift and big tires and that he can't go wheeling until he has that....
hudd357mag 09-28-2009, 03:49 AM Excellent build thread. I too love the front bumper. I am just now looking into Shrockworks for sliders. I heard its a long wait so will prolly get them in the spring..lol. If I ever had a doubt about dealer step rails...I am sure glad I didnt get them now.

No prob. :)
Yep! I want to get most of the mods out of the way before I take pix with the DSLR :D

I hear the wait time isnt too bad now...I've heard people say they've gotten them within a month or 2 instead of the typical 3+ month wait on certain things. Rear and Front may be lil longer but sliders have been coming in under 2 months.
Well ladies and gentlemen I am off to moab tomorrow to meet up with 2 other Xterra's should be a good time! No girlfriend though, so that means I have to snap all my own pics :( but it should be a good time! So look forward to some sweet stuff and new pics!

When I first got into wheeling I was in AZ and staying with a buddy. Didn't even have my own OR capable vehicle at the time, especially for out there. He had an old beat to crap '91 Isuzu Trooper on 33's with ONLY a PML. Completely open rear and stripped down interior. That truck went through hell and back, ended up getting rattle-canned olive-drab and bedlinered along where the plastic molding used to be.
Long story short though, he ran almost stock and enjoyed everything that he did off-road. He constantly impressed people with just what a stock truck could do. A great driver, but above and beyond that, willing to just get out there and do stuff.
