new to the forums and wanted to say hi. I'm currently in South GA, and I'm a proud owner of a white 2004 Xterra 3.3l automatic that I've had a little over a year. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

I need to take some lol. I've been meaning to get a card reader for my digital camera, but I always forget to buy one when I'm at the store. I want to take some before and after shots when I do the mods.

And thanks to all the welcomes so far. =)

I'd love to man, I actually need to get out to Alabama soon to visit a friend. only bad thing is my truck is bone stock at the moment and only a two wheel drive, so I'm not sure how it would do on rougher trails.

You would be surprised. Ricer-X and Json3904 both have 2WD xterras and have done some pretty gnarly stuff in them.

So I've read. I'm just wondering what kind of trails I could do without any body lifts or stuff like that. I really don't want to do the lift, right now I'm too concerned with MPG's. lol

Welcome to SE forum!

We usually go to this place called Coal Creek OHV or known as Windrock. Its in oliver springs, TN.

We'll take care of you on the trails....many of us have 4x4's and will assist if needed.

God, I hope you aren't a guy, cause the last guy that said he wanted to be part of my cherry-popping...well I'd rather not talk about it. lol

Actually, I live in a small town called Thomasville, about 22 miles N of the FL line. I'm usually free since I am self employed, so just give me some warning and I'm sure we could get together. =)

Welcome, from central Alabama. What Drake said, we need to get a few of us together and wheel some time.

From a former 4x2 owner who surprised my share of 4x4 owners off-road, I'll offer you my advice:

1. Remove the rear anti-sway bar - just a few bolts and it'll be safe and sound on the garage shelf, ready to bolt back on for later resale. This gives you tons more articulation on the rear axle, helping to keep that one wheel that is trying to move your truck (limited-slip notwithstanding) on the ground more often. DO NOT REMOVE THE FRONT BAR FOR THE SAME REASON.

2. All-Terrain tires - good ones with good open lugs. Resist the urge to get mudders (Mud Terrain or M/T) tires unless you really live in a wet and muddy area. A/T's will be gentler on the earth when you do have to dig your way out. Good sloppy mud will usually stop a 4x2 cold pretty easily unless you power through it (not usually recommended).

3. Ditch the mudflaps.

4. Remove the step rails when offroading, put them back on when you get home. Put the bolts back in the frame after removing the step rails so the holes don't get mucked up. Or, remove it and leave it off. Little known fact: removing the mudflaps and step rails give the truck the appearance of having been lifted a couple inches.

5. If the front of the truck is lower than the rear (pretty common on 4x2's), you can level it out by cranking up the front torsion bars a bit. Have it aligned if you do it.

6. Never wheel alone. You'll preferably want someone with a 4x4 and a tow strap along for the ride.

7. Make sure you have a good tow point front and rear. Depending on trim level, there may be a factory tow hook on the front passenger frame rail behind the bumper. A Class III hitch with a receiver shackle in it is a good recovery point for the rear, and also doubles as a, well, a hitch.

8. Air down the tires (front and rear) to help with traction. I used to run from 18 to 22 psi on the trails. Make sure you have a way to air back up before driving any distance at speed on the road.

I could go on, but that's a good starter.

That's great advice. I'm thinking of tackling the rear anti-sway bar this weekend. And as soon as I can afford it, I'm gonna get a tow hitch. I've gotta admit though, I'm more of a mall crawler, mainly because of my disability, but if I had the right people along to go over modest trails I would love to try it.
