Well it's another weekend and I find myself on the lunch break of an all day work detail. :) I'm at a friend's house helping put up a roof over the patio. Two weeks ago I went to see my new nephew and ended up spending the entire four day weekend putting up chain link fencing, assembling baby furniture (makes the Xterra look easy), and painting. I think I need a weekend to rest.

Do any of the rest of you feel that you work harder on the weekends for friends and family than you do during the regular work week?

absolutely.

But you know what Don, I'd rather do this kinda work 8 days a week rather than work, because it's benefitting me, or my friends. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I do something for myself, and I learn things in the process. AND, you solidify your relationships with people when you help them/they help you.

I just got back from Lowes. I needed to replenish my plumbing supply stuff. I keep a stock of all kinds of plumbing, hardware, wood... just in case something happens in the middle of the night, on New Years eve - you know what I mean.

I like to be prepared. I have more tools than God, and if thats not enough, I have Mr Snap On across the street whose house I have keys to (I dont know why?)

You have a point. Working with friends or helping family is always a worthwile way to spend one's time, but you know once in a while I would love to have a few minutes to myself. Sadly enough I have 2 hours left to finish working on everything I need to do with the 240SX Convertible, and haven't been able to find the time. Thankfully the car is paid for and in SC, I don't have to put a tag on it, or register it until such time as it's running and so on.

The roof over the patio went really great, but it did turn out to be about a 12 hour working day, followed by coming home and cleaning out one of the garage bays. Turns out the wife really would like to start putting her G35 in the garage at night again. :) Oopsie, too many Nissan parts boxes and so on in the way.

Having time for yourself is just another one of those things you learn to do in life. You have to make time for yourserlf just like you make time for everybody else.

You're a real nice guy Don, and it's very possible that you get taken advantage of. That happens to nice guys.
It has to be rude, or the people who hang onto you wont ever get the hint.

Switch sides.

Im an Electronic Engineer. People think I can fix anything electrical.

My neighbors drive me up a tree asking me about their electronic stuff.

I try to help them but as you know, we live in an electronic throw away society,, so I beg off.

It's all relative Don.

Just have the best time you can afford. These are the days of your life. They're not a dress rehersal.

Make the best of them, before they're gone.

When were sitting in a chair like grampa Simpson, I want to make sure I did everything I wanted to do.

Dont go silent into the dark night.

Anyhow, Im getting sleepy.

Later dude,

John

JP, 2 out of 3 were very right. The only one you missed is that I wouldn't/couldn't walk out on my friends in the middle of a project. :)

Hey boof, I have a 9 inch ac/dc color tv, that always burns something out, First some of the line voltage diodes were fried, then later the receiver would just quit and it would go to fuzz, I traced that to a ic that was getting hot so I stuck a heat sink on it and it works pretty good, so whats the deal?

heh heh! true story but just kidding, you're a good egg boof, and don't let anyone tell you different

Hi Super! Welcome to the board. :) From what you say it seems you've cooked your rectifier diodes and my guess is that, your voltage regulator IC is overheating. Are you a EE or an ET?

My point about a throw away society is just this. You can get on of those little TV's at Walmart or even my local drug store has them for about $50 to $60 bucks. Why bother repairing the one you have when a new one is so inexpensive?

Even having things serviced is a little insane. For example, my company will service & repair anything we make for a flat rate fee, which is half the cost of a new one. Tack the cost of shipping & insurance on top of that, and you almost 3/4 of the way towards the price of a new one.

Companies generally dont repair down to component level anymore, they just swap boards. Which is why the repair cost is so high.

So treat yourself to a new TV. :)

didnt quite mean it that way because nobody likes a quitter but that doesnt mean you have to stay and clean the paint brushes or grease the mower pickup the trash from roofing if you have other things to do. thats the kinda thing i leave to them if i need to get home mow my own grass or pick up the kids. now i got to go get stuff done its pretty nice out

I figured what you meant JP, just wanted to take a second and pick on you...
:auslachen2-big:

This weekend there are no projects. I have Saturday off, and I plan to go get sunburnt on the lake playing with Sea Doos. then Sunday back to the Grind, as we are hosting the SC Supreme Court Institute. That will be an all week endeavor.

After that it's off to Kansas for 4.5 days. Close friend turns 30, and we wouldn't want to miss that.

whoo boy.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

My house was hit by a tornado, and it wrecked most of the lower half...so I've been rebuilding it slowly (Crap insurance...)...plus fellow wheelers know to just stop in my driveway when they need a mod on...plus my truck tends to lie fallow while the garage is heavily X modded...

And I repair all the family (Extended..) rigs, and house repairs, etc.

:D

It feels good though.
