: Where can I get a Bug and/or Rain Guard
munkman 10-10-2008, 01:09 PM Any suggestions on a good (and cheap!) place to get a bug guard and/or rain guard for 1st gen X? 4x4parts.com has 2nd get, but no 1st. I wasn't able to find a thread on it in the forum either.
Or recommend a brand... cuz there are some wierd ones out there.
Thanks!
EDIT: I found this site that seemed reasonably priced with over 500 reviews... any thoughts?

silverbullet 10-10-2008, 04:08 PM A bug guard you could get from autozone or some other autoparts store. AutoVenShade or Lund are both good companies.
AutoVentShade would be your best bet for the rainguards too unless you go with the ones Skooby posted. You might wanna get new double sided tape to secure them to your X though. Unless they aren't the type that use it.
Slugger 10-11-2008, 01:12 AM Here are the ones at Autozone

I bought these when I first got my X and I love them. I think they make the X look better too. They are inchannel so they stick up in the window grove.
munkman 10-11-2008, 05:49 AM Slugger, I didn't know they made in-channel ones. Are there any disadvantages to these over the ones you stick on with tape? Does the tape damage the paint job?
Skooby, do you know which kind that person was selling?
Thanks guys
Drake 10-11-2008, 07:45 AM Go with the in-channel. The adhesive will fail over time and then they will start vibrating against your paint and then THAT will screw up your paint-job. One of my civics had the "stick-on" type and aside from the crappy adhesive, they don't have as clean of a look as the in-channel ones.

I honestly dont know what kind they are... =S didnt even bother asking him haha.
skoobysx 10-11-2008, 08:46 AM For some reason I dont really trust Autozone when it comes to parts like this... Just seems like everytime I go to autozone, the parts dont fit perfect or something...
Slugger 10-11-2008, 11:39 AM I haven't seen any disadvantages yet towards them, I think they look better than the stick on ones also.
Skooby, that link that I put are the ones designed for the Xterra.
I would say the only downside to the was that after you put them on you have to leave your windows closed for 24 hours so the tape will stick, but other than that they are great.
json3904 10-11-2008, 02:20 PM i have the in channel from 4x4parts and just remember when you install them your windows wont want to go up and down cause the thickness of the guard.... after a few days they will be fine..... if you want i will take pics tomorrow for you....
DaveC 10-28-2008, 08:51 PM One word of warning about the in-channel ones; I had them on my old X and ditched them for the adhesive ones. The reason being; if you're like me and regularly stick your head out of the window in a hurry when wheeling to see what your line looks like through any obstacle, you'll find your head hitting that in-channel guard enough to either knock it loose constantly, or you'll break it (like I did after a while lol). Thus, I replaced them with the adhesive ones. They end up mounted higher, and I never hit it with my big noggin again after they were installed.
Either way, I guess it depends on (a) how much off roading you do, and (b) if your head is as big as the monstrosity sitting on top of my shoulders ;)
json3904 10-28-2008, 09:06 PM i have hit my head on mine more than one time..... LOL also the pass side visor got a chunk taken out of it right after the hurricane, i was driving down the road and hit a branch that was sticking out...
DaveC 10-28-2008, 10:01 PM lol, sucks hitting it with your head doesn't it? ;)
json3904 10-28-2008, 11:33 PM Yes it dose but I don't like the way the other ones look so I guess that's the price to pay. Also if I'm not mistaken they make a set the sticks out further than mine, AC has them listed as off road vent visors.
honzrr 01-23-2010, 02:25 PM now i'm looking to get a set and have found the AutoVentshade ones and some Weathertech ones.
is the consensus still that the in-channel ones are better? has anyone had issues with their windows going up with the in-channels installed?
i just got my xterra very recently, have read about some power window issues with them, and sure enough my driver's side rear passenger window is a bit slow in going up now and last time needed a bit of help to get all the way up. just wondering if the in-channels are gonna make it impossible to raise it all the way.
