: Body Color Bumpers
HDFireMedic 06-05-2006, 01:29 AM I have an 06 Xterra SE 4x4 and recently saw an 05-06 Xterra with body color bumper covers and grill bars. Anyone know where I can get these and other body color parts (side moldings, splash guards, etc.)? That gray is not the prettiest thing in the world.
By the way - anyone looking for great front and rear bars - check out Manik, a little pricy, but great looking.
USC Justice 06-05-2006, 06:09 AM First, welcome to ClubXterra.org. I hope you enjoy it here, as there are some great people to talk to.
As to your question, I haven't seen another 05+ Xterra with body colored bumber covers, but I was thinking about it the other day while parked beside a Pathfinder. If you get any pics of the one you have seen please share. My guess as to how it was done etc. is that the owner of that Xterra took it to a reputable body shop an had the bumper covers preped, primed, and shot with matching paint. The only problem with that (speaking from experience) is that even with the additive to make paint adhere to plastic (or poly) parts, it doesn't always work out. I had an Acura a while back with an aftermarket nose, and we had a great deal of trouble getting the paint to adhere.
What color did you get? How do you like it so far? How many miles?
I had the Manik brush guard on my 00 Crew Cab Frontier and loved it.
ggunn 06-05-2006, 08:05 AM You mean like this one, with the body colored bumper?
Muzikman 06-06-2006, 10:54 AM That picture is of DaggerDoggie's Yellow X (he also has a blue one). That is a steel bumper and was painted by him.
I have not seen any stock X bumpers the same color as the body except for people who painted it themselves. I am sure it could be done by any body shop though.

My last truck was an 02 Frontier Crew. I took the front bumper cover and the fender flares off and had a local body shop paint them. They absolutley must be sanded, primed, and then painted with a flex agent. The job cost me $250 because I did the removal and replacement. You want to remove the parts because you need thick paint where the parts overlap. I did not have any peeling or chipping for the two more years that I owned it. email for pics. I have also thought of repeating the process with my 05 X. The front bumper cover is very easy to remove as I already have done it. BTW, You may have seen a night armor X. The body color is so close to the plastic color that it looks color matched.
WoodyTX 12-11-2006, 03:26 PM Devil's Advocate here...
One of the reasons I went with an Xterra instead of a Subaru Forester XT was the lack of body-colored bumper. My Honda Accord has them, and I've got chips on the front and scrapes on the back that wouldn't matter on a black or grey bumper, but look like complete ass on a white bumper.
For repair, I can either replace the bumpers at $400 each, or try to find a shop that can match the color with flexible paint.
It's a BUMPer. It bumps things (or gets bumped into). Why would you want to put something as fragile as paint on it?

manny 12-14-2006, 12:02 PM The x you saw was probably painted. Nissan does not offer color bumpers on the x sold in the USA.
