The cruise control pulses and seems to have a heavy foot when accelerating. You could net better mileage on hills with the cruise off if you roll down the hills with the clutch in or in neutral. On abrupt short hills the cruise control likes to floor it to maintain speed. When you drive you could back off the gas a bit at the cost of speed and coast up the hill and sometimes roll over the hill without accelerating. On perfectly flat road I see no disadvantage of the cruise. I definitly wouldn't use it to accelerate because of its heavy foot. Just use it to maintain speed.
