Hello to all. I've got an '02 X and its been great for us, especially since moving to Pocahontas County. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue: My heater/defroster fan only blows if set on the highest setting (4). Is this a problem with a fuse or possibly a switch somewhere? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for joining. The simple answer to your blower question is to bring it to the dealer. There are probably series resistors inline to differentiate between the different speeds.
But you'll have to let them finacially sodmize you to get things back to normal.
If it were me, I'd just leave it as is.:)

Until recently, I was the main driver of the X and it didn't bother me enough to make the three hour round trip to the nearest dealer. I'm now driving our Silverado and the wife has the X. It seems to be a much larger issue now for some reason. Go figure. Thanks for the info.

Welcome to the forum and there may be a couple of other solutions to the problem at hand.
Some of the earlier Altima's had that same problem. I can't recall off the top of my head what the problem was, but I'll check tomorrow with someone who was affected by it.
If you are mechanically inclined, and want to replace the whole electronics/blower motor parts, there are 2 totalled Xterras at a salvage yard about 25 minutes from my house.
I'll post up what I find, and if you need any of those parts, just hit me up via private message and I'll give you the contact info and so on.

OK, I spoke with a service tech at the dealership here. Based on what you have told us, he says that it is the low speed resister on the fan motor. Not a big deal to change really. It is located on the airbox under the passenger side dash behind the glove box.
The resister itself is very inexpensive through the dealership. What will cost you is the labor if you don't want to try doing it yourself. from what I'm told that is rated at a 1.5 hour job. The dealerships down here (SC) charge about 105 per hour in labor.
Hope that helps some more.
