: Oil Filters
USC Justice 06-03-2006, 10:45 PM Just thought I might start the questioning on this topic, What does everyone use for filters?
Up to the G35, and now with the new Xterra, I have always used the Puralator Pure One filter (PL14610 in the 3.3 and 3.5 Nissans). Upon talking with the people at the Infiniti dealer down here, they have reccomended only using the OEM filter with the Wife's G35 sedan. Add to that I can get them for the same cost as the Pure One filter, and I'm going with that.
I haven't made it to the first oil change in the Xterra yet, and as of now I'm undecided as to whether to use the OEM, or possibly the Pure One. I have never had a problem with the Puralator filters.
On a side note, as I tell everyone, DO NOT USE FRAM. I know a couple people in SC who have gotten motors replaced due specifically to FRAM filters breaking apart and sending bits of the filter and filter screen back through the motor.

xterra711 07-10-2006, 07:38 PM Purolator for both (same filter) for the Xterra and our Titan:biggrin:
ggunn 07-10-2006, 07:41 PM I have always used Fram. My dad always used them so I did it too. But it looks like I will be changing on my next oil change.
Purolater PureOne, or sometimes the Mobil1 filter.
I only use synthetics in the truck.
:D
jaskjb 09-20-2006, 01:04 PM Next oil change... thinking about using Amsoil synthetic and filter on my 03 xterra, and also in by BMW cycle. Supposed to be good stuff, and they warrant repairs if needed when using thier oil.
Jim
Lots of people like Amsoil ($) though.
Its VERY rare to have a warrenty repair due to lubricant failure, as all that happens typically is that a part wears more than it would have if better lubricated...and even dino juice lubricates fairly well, so, we're talking about an engine going 150-200k - vs - 300-500K ...hard to prove in a warrenty claim.
:D
trackerho76 01-06-2007, 01:23 PM K&N when I can find them otherwise fram
soccerbrace 07-31-2007, 07:33 PM K & N for me but if I couldn't find that I would go with Mobil 1. Matches with my syn. oil.

I'm a new sponsor to the forum, Amsoil Dealer. The sponsor thread is not up yet. You can visit my site at www.alamooil.com (http://www.alamooil.com).
I will not be bash or slam others products or ideas. I will provide information from test data and real life experiences.
I too lost a motor to a fram filter.

Ricer-X 08-02-2007, 10:08 AM sweet, i may be gettin some amsoil shyte
json3904 08-02-2007, 10:41 AM x2 with ricer...... my dad is a dealer also but he is in amarillo and i am by houston so the shipping would kill me.
matt_sr 08-03-2007, 05:31 PM I had been using Fram filters on my 06 X and after what I read about Fram filters when this thread started, I stopped using them and started using Napa's premium filter. It's made by Wicks, who makes the filters for most of the domestic auto companies. That was about 50,000 miles ago, and I've had great luck with the Napa/Wicks filters, and considering I do an oil change every 5000 miles, that's a few filters. I've got over 70,000 miles total on my X now and I hope my oil and filter choices keep my engine in great condition.
Ricer-X 08-04-2007, 05:39 AM i gotta quit using fram
fatkid_UH-60 08-04-2007, 10:03 AM i use a K&N filter with mobil1 synth
json3904 08-04-2007, 11:38 AM i need to change my oil.. and i will not be putting fram back in the X......

New to this, first post, just got an 02 Yellow Xterra supercharged yesterday. but here is my 2 cents. I have been selling auto parts for almost 6 years and would rather GIVE you a wix filter then SELL you a fram. I was recently told that the Amsoil filters are made by Wix, but I have not confirmed this or know if they are made to the same specs. Anyway, great site and lots of great info!!!!
json3904 09-02-2007, 01:34 AM well i changed the oil about a week ago... i put in mobile1 full synth.. along with the mobile1 filter which was like 11 bucks but oh well.... now back to the fram thing my dad just came down for a small vacation and he brought me some amsoil for my bike he also brought a fram filter now he has been a mechanic for a verry long time and when i asked him if he ever heard of a fram filter breaking down and causeing a motor failure he told me NO... he said the only way a oil filter would break down enough to cause a failure is if you didnt change it like you are supposed to.... thats when he told me that like in my case with my bike to run the filter to 3500 miles then change the filter and top off the oil, since the oil is good for 7000..... so no matter what filter you use if you change it whenyou are supposed to you shouldnt have any problems..... i trust my dad with any motor i have....
json3904 09-02-2007, 01:36 AM also im not trying to arue the previoud posts im just putting in my 2cents if you know what i mean....
Frankhyd 11-22-2007, 12:22 AM The OEM filters are excellent , the Mobil 1 filter is excellent . Frams are decent i have never heard of problems with fram filters . The bottom line is change your oil and filter every 3,000 to 6,000 miles or so and your nissan engine will give you 200,000 miles + of solid , dependable service.
