I'm new around the forum and I've got some questions because I'm in the market for new tires and i would like to get new wheels as well.

I was wondering what the biggest tire I could fit on a 2000 X would be? I don't have any lifts, everything is stock.
Thanks for the help

Correct me if Im wrong members..... but you might be able to fit 31s on there if you cut down the fender wells????

Yeah you could squeeze a 31" tire on it and maybe a 32" with some trimming but that's a stretch. Your stock tire is 30.5 btw.

"poor man's lift"

= getting longer shackles for the rear leafs and cranking the torsion bars in the front

Remember, most of the questions you may have on anything may have been asked before. Check out the search tab (upper right) and try plugging in key words you are looking for. There are a lot of great information here ;)

32x 11.50 x 15

Stock with a tiny bit of trimming like a 3/8 a inch off the inner fender plastic piece. Of course this is only if you are using stock wheels.

hey everyone. new to this site but i have a question. i have an 01 X and wanna go bigger on tires. stock rim size is 16 inch. how much trimming is required to fit 32" tires with stock suspension?
Thanks

Drake

It would be about the same amount of trimming as "Silver dude"s X. Mainly trimming from the front lip of the bumper.

klutch89

but would the 1 inch of rim size make a difference?

Nah... a 32" tire is a 32" tire. The wheel diameter does not affect the tire diameter.

For about $70 you could do a Poor Man's Lift (PML) and get a little more ground clearance. It just involves buying lift shackles for the rear leaf springs and cranking your torsion bars to lift the front. Easy and cheap mod to do and it gets you about 1.5" of suspension lift.

ok and what kind of shackle am i lookin for? and how much would i adjust the torsion bar?

Silverdude...I love the wheels you have on your X! Are those stock? Did you paint them? Where did you grab them from?

Thanks!

Those are the S/C wheels from the 1st gen frontiers. They are pretty friggin' sweet!

Hey klutch... these are the lift shackles I have on mine as well as many other members here:
https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=435_436_398_520&products_id=145

Calmini also makes lift shackles. You can see them at www.calmini.com.

The amount of adjustment varies from vehicle to vehicle. The main thing to keep in mind is your upper bumpstop clearance must remain at or more than 1/2".

the size of the rim dosent MATTER!!!!! the thing that matters is the amount of room you have in your wheel well... i run 33's on a 3" SL but if i actually wheeled it i would run into problems....

Gotcha...I'm planning a BL sometime so that shouldnt be a problem and I dont think I'm gonna want to get new rims so probably will just stick to stock rims while 33's added to it though, unless thats strongly not advised?

I trimmed the plastic fender piece a tiny bit. Basicly removed the lip on the inner side, that was it no more rubbing. In my opinion stock looks unfinished with that lip hanging out anyways.

Thanks for the compliment. They are 6 spoke Frontier wheels from the Desert runners 4x2 and others.

What are the pros and cons of it?

Stock rims are sort of narrow for wide 33's. Though many people run 12.50 wide tires on stock rims without issue, it's not recommended.

Stock rims provide the narrowest trackwidth to keep the tires in the fenders and not rubbing like crazy.

Haha gee thanks Jason.....but the reason i was asking is because most people prefer steelies and I was just wondering if stock wheel can hold up as well as steelies is what I was trying to say....sorry for my poor explanation, LOL

what would ya'll recommend tire wise as best for street and wheelin? i have a jeep that has Swamper TSLs and they seem good on the street. Any input helps. feel free to be honest.:wink-big:

The most recommended will be the BFG A/T KO if you're wanting an all-terrain tire. There's also the Yokohama Geolander A/T, Firestone Destinations, Cooper Discoverer and many others. For mud terrains, stick with radials like the Yokohama Geolander M/T, Trxxus M/T, BFG M/T, etc. Bias ply tires handle like crap on the highways and you'll get way less miles out of a set of bias versus radials too.

I myself run two different sets of wheels. I have one set with road friendly, light aggressive all-terrain tires and then when I hit the trails I have another set of 33" Cooper SST's.

Dang! the stock tire is 30.5? That isnt even worth it to put on a 31 or 32...

yea mine are 29.5" as well. if u have a PML what the biggest you can go without rubbing with NO trimming.

TN4x4Xterra

31's more likely
32's with minor trimming

SwiftT5389

so say 31's did happen to rub. Would this only happen during times of flex or would this happen say if i went over a speedbump. lol

Drake
01-07-2009, 01:08 PM
I ran 31.5's on my X and it sits at PML height. Don't recall any rubbing problems even with it getting a little flexy.

what if i have a Half-a-PML haha. no rear shackles

what then lol

If you're worried about rubbing, then it's the turns that will get ya. Not really on the flex.

Alright peeps. here be me with another question
if i get like 31.5" tires would it jack up the speed sensors?
and would it be ok to get 16" soft8 wheels with 4.5" of backspacing with the 31's or 31.5's?
