Automatic. But if had been a manual I still would have bought it. :)

Manual, easier to fix, more fun to drive. :) Nothing against an automagic, just not for me if I can help it...

I'd think all of you off-roaders, with all the body gear mounted to your X's would be all over the manuals. I'm in total agreement with USC Justice, I'm the one who just had to pay over 3 grand to fix an automatic with low mileage. Reliability is everything and automatics are dull. You know USC, I don't think these gen-X'ers had dads that took them out on country roads and showed them how to shift a manual. (I would expect that I'll incure a great deal of wrath on this)

Speaking for myself, I drive autos is because, living and working in the NY NJ metro area, I tend to get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic everyday. That will make you hate driving a stick. Nothing worse than a few hours of 5 mph traffic and clutching until you leg goes numb.

As for fixing auto transmissions to the tune of over 3K? I would never put that kind of money into repairing a car. I'd just get rid of it and buy a new one.

Don't forget, I work in a big metro area too, all day long. The clutch pedal goes in so smooth on my 06, it might as well be an auto.

The last experience I had with a stick was on my way to the NJ shore many years ago with my wife. We got stuck in 5 hours of stop & go traffic. This was in a souped up Z28 I had with a 3 finger pressure plate/race clutch combo. My leg was so damn numb, I swore off all manuals from that day forward.

Glad the clutch is a piece of cake of your X though.

Boofer- i feel your pain....i grew up in jersey and went to college on long island commuting to the bronx once a week...not much fun in a manual...i've waisted many hours of my life sitting in traffic in that area...but, i still loved being able to shift gears....my previous ride was a 02 sentra spec v, so when i bought the x i couldn't give that up.....i got the six speed and i love it

I drive 600 miles in a semi all day long, so I just want to relax while driving my X.

My brother in law lived in Boulder & Denver up until a year ago. I've been up your way many times. Been to the mountains, Estes Park, Coors Plant, hung out with the hippies in Boulder.....

Real nice place to live but the food sucks....:)

The new owner of the MN Vikqueens, Ziggy Wilf, is from Jersey. He was behind me in his big hugh expensive BMW with his Jersey plates, last wed. morning. I service Eden Prairie, where their big training center is, and so see the players and their big huge SUVS... He was told last week that he wasn't going to get his new stadium, maybe if he sold his car he'd have more money.

Chiming in REALLY late
but i have a manual tranny and I like it a lot. Replaced the clutch at 110,000ish miles.
It took me a little bit to adjust to it on the trails, and realize the concept "its okay to stall" but that's all a part of learning

I have a manual....the X was my wife's before she got the Mini Cooper (Also Manual...)...she HATES auto trannies.....and will NOT buy anything w/o a shift.

The auto's ARE easier, obviously, but, you do sacrifice some control, especially downhill. The new OR X's have hill descent though, negating that primary advantage.

The crawl ratio is too high for seious rock crawling on the manual X's w/o wearing the clutch, or, idling over everything using bounce/lunge techniques, etc.

So I've been accused of rock racing as opposed to rock crawling.

:D

It does go places though, and I love it.

Mine's a manual too, and I have to agree that it helps on the downhills. I was definitely wishing I had an auto over some of the slow, rocky sections of trails at rausch though, but I did fine and didn't burn up my clutch.

My wife drives a 5spd subaru, but she is picking up her xterra next week with automatic.

I didn't realize that there were more than two of us that had manual X's, so few people drive a stickshift nowdays. My X just turned 18k today, and I've loved the manual both in rush hour and out in the sticks where I live. And the best part, my kids can never drive it.

Its definitely better in traffic than the cars I've had in manual; its pretty easy to just leave it in first and crawl along.

I have automatic in my X.
I have nothing against stick my husband has a Z28 which I only get to drive once in a while, and its hard to deal traffic jams, especially trying to cross the int. bridges.
